Aides to former Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney said last night he raised about $10 million in the third quarter and contributed $6 million to $7 million of his own money.
In the Republican field, he’s apparently been outraised in real donations – not personal loans – by Fred Thompson, with $8 million, and Giuliani, with something like $10-12 million (All of which is way less than the millions being raised by Sen. Clinton and Sen. Obama).
UPDATE: Mitt Romney’s pet blogger Dean Barnett, typing from Hugh Hewitt’s lap, is very very upset that I interpreted the Post’s reporting to say that Romney’s total haul was $10 million and $6 out of it was his own cash. He does this in a mature way by calling me dumb, stupid, etc. None of this changes the fact that Romney’s campaign has been propped up by his personal fortune, or that in actual human being donations he is behind the national GOP frontrunners as well as the Democratic ones.
No, I’m pretty sure you add the numbers together for his total take (i.e., he’ll report ~$15M, of which $5-6M will be from himself.
Even so, (and I think you are right), that means the top two earners on the republican field managed about the same as Obama or Clinton did alone.
However, I also heard his total was $12 million, which could mean Oliver is right in his math.
I guess we will have to wait a couple weeks to get the final numbers.

He’s clearly pleased to point out how poor your analytical skills are, and what an unserious pundit you are.
Your problem wasn’t in how you “interpreted” the article. You can’t count. My seven year old could do that math. And she wouldn’t even consider to blame getting 10 plus 6 wrong as failing to “interpret” the answer.

Doesn’t seem as upset as he does smug. He is right, you should be a little more careful when you have a banner that reads “Like Kryptonite To Stupid.” It is a pretty stupid post.
I will confess that at first I thought the same thing as you, but I didn’t do a full length post on it and I don’t pose as a blogger.

Romney so far has raised $45 million from contributors…which is still ahead of even Rudy Giuliani’s $44 million AND ahead of all other GOP front runners. (The $17.5 million of Romney’s own personal contributions actually put’s Romney’s total at $62.5 million.) Hence – excluding Romney’s personal contributions, he is still ahead of all GOP candidates in fund raising.
