		<description>There&#039;s a level of denial in the GOP base that began with the &quot;Bush isn&#039;t really that conservative&quot; trope, and it&#039;s led to them trying to find somebody who&#039;s &lt;i&gt;really&lt;/i&gt; as conservative as they thought Bush was.

The irony being, of course, that Bush really was the right-wing ideologue they wanted, and attempting to run a candidate with the same positions in 2008 will only get them clobbered.
