Romney Tapping Mormon Network For Money

Wherever one can find it, I guess.

Mitt Romney’s presidential campaign is targeting fellow Mormons for financial support, as evidenced by a fundraising appeal last week e-mailed to subscribers of LDS Living magazine.

The campaign paid the privately owned Mormon-themed magazine to send out an e-mail to its subscribers designed to appear as though it came from the campaign itself. The message invited recipients to a rally in Salt Lake City later this month. It included a line at the end saying that “You are currently subscribed to [the] Romney for President” e-mail list.

I like the whole automatic “welcome to the Romney campaign” deal. Heh.

This is an interesting topic. Romney has indicated he isn’t running as a Mormon and doesn’t really want to talk about his religion. But, he is very willing to rely heavily on Mormon networks for fund raising. This seems hypocritical.

Another interesting topic. Will Roman Catholics vote for Guiliani just because he is Catholic? maybe some, probably not most. Will a large percentage of Mormons vote for Romney just because he is Mormon? Absolutely.

If he does become the Republican candidate, (oh please, oh please, oh please), it will be interesting to see by what margin he wins Utah.
