Specifically the Tom Brady – Randy Moss connection from Sunday. I’m not pretending that both aren’t talented players (although Moss has shown little to no real work ethic through his career), but I seriously question how much of that great performance was a result of horrid Jets defense. I didn’t see the game, but in the highlights I saw there was little to no pass rush from the Jets front. Give a talented guy like Tom Brady all the time in the world and a fat target like Randy Moss, and you’re going to get a big day.
Sure, maybe Brady-Moss is the reincarnation of Montana-Rice but isn’t week one kind of soon to be giving them the crown already? And isn’t it kind of moot if they were just dirty cheaters?
Cheating, shmeating. Signal stealing has been going on in pro sports for years; it’s part of the game. (And in some cases, such as Tampa’s Super Bowl win over the Raiders, it would be stupid not to use the signals you were given.) You still have to execute on those stolen signals.
Was Reche Caldwell invited out to visit the Jets for any reason other than they wanted to pick his brain about Brady? How is this scrupulous, especially when it dangles hope of a job in front of the still-unsigned Caldwell?
The Pats beat the hell out of the Jets because all their weapons are in place. Maroney is a pounding RB, and an opposing secondary has two top-flight receivers–Stallworth and Welker–to worry about even before having to deal with the problem of a motivated Randy Moss.
With or without a Teh Work Ethic, that Randy Moss guy seems like a pretty decent receiver.
A wee bit jealous, I see? Just because the Redskins have been a mediocrity for the last decade, don’t shit on the Patriots, who are better than the Redskins by a factor of 100.
Who is arguing that the Redskins are anywhere near as good as the Pats? Not me, not even close. Gimme a break. I’m simply asking whether it’s fair to give them the Lombardi after one week.
In football and most all other sports, cheaters always win:

Brady’s uniform was exceptionally clean at the end of the game. The Jets recorded 0 sacks. If you gave Grossman that kind of time he’d probably look good. Well, probably… maybe.
If yo gave Grossman that kind of time he’d just get a better read on the receiver he’s about to overthrow.
