Well, our draft was just finished, and my strategy to pick Peyton Manning in the first round was thwarted. Still, I’m still relatively pleased. Yes, I know I have a lot of Redskins players. It’s hard to avoid for me.
QB Philip Rivers
WR Isaac Bruce
WR Eddie Kennison
WR Drew Bennett
RB Clinton Portis
RB Ladell Betts
TE Chris Cooley
K Joe Nedney
DEF New England
I know you didn’t get Peyton, but who did you take with your first rounder? I don’t see a first rounder in your lineup.
I picked Portis followed by Betts (I had the 15th and 16th picks), which is good enough for 1300 yards or so historically.
I’m not thrilled. I think I drafted a guy working at my Home Depot.
So…who are your backup RBs for Washington’s bye week?
Who was your other QB?
I think Rivers is generally a great start, but he’s going against a pretty good defense this week.
I still think SD will get 25. But they could get 10.
Good luck.
Yours would be a good starting line-up, in a 48 team league.
You’re only near stud is Portis, who is a huge question mark due to injury history. There are rarely enough points in a RBCC situation to make it worthwhile to use both from the same team as starters. Even if Portis does shine, and I hope he does because I have him too, that means Betts gets only leftover scraps.
Here is my draft, picking last in a 10 team, 2 keeper league:
QB Peyton Manning
RB Willie Parker
RB Travis Henry
RB Clinton Portis
RB Cedrick Benson
RB Deshaun Foster
RB Chris Brown
WR Javon Walker
WR Donald Driver
WR Andre Johnson
WR Chris Chambers
WR Vincent Jackson
WR Santonio Holmes
TE Bo Scaife
K Nate Kaeding
D - Minnesota Vikings
I’d need to pick up a QB, but I’d pit my non-starters against your starters each week and feel good about it.
Good luck, though, because as we all know, that is why they play the games. Just ask Appalachin State!
I got Manning, largely because Yahoo’s pre-ranking system gave a lot of weight to running backs. So I boosted Manning to second on my list and I think that’s why I was able to snag him despite picking seventh.
That running back situation is going to kill your team. If it hasn’t been done already I’d be putting in waiver claims on whatever running back Denver currently has backing up Travis Henry.
I look forward to whooppin yo ass with that redskin heavy and 35+ year old wr corps…damn

Oliver, I like your blog, but that is a case-study in what not to do. That team is cover-your-eyes awful.
I mean, I think you are younger than 2 of your 3 WRs.
Mr. Willis, I think you might want to hope that Portis has a MONSTER first game, and then offer him up for trade. Having two RB from the same team is going to be death to your scoring. If you can swap Portis for another RB1 you’re going to be in a much better position.
As for your WR situation, troll the waiver wire. Even in a deep league there are still bargains to be found.
Jacoby Jones from HOU and James Jones from GB are two receivers who are going to get a lot of play, but went undrafted in a lot of leagues. Selvin Young from DEN had a monster preseason, and the RBs ahead of him are battling injuries.
Seriously though, you had a really, really bad draft.
