Let's put mikep's other idiocy back to him:

Nazi Germany and the Soviet Union also had great militaries, like the US. Would you call these "great" nations?

Good job mike of exactly missing the point. Free public education for all is what makes America great. Conservatives want to take public education away from those who can't pay and give it only to those who can, hence vouchers.

Though I am glad to see someone from the wrong side of the aisle admit that teh librul colleges Stanford and Harvard give a great education.

"Public education makes America Great"

Actually, no. It's education itself that makes people (or a nation) great. It doesn't matter in the least whether it's private or public. Not at all.

This is rather obvious. One need only compare the educations of someone educated at a public university with those educated at private ones (such as Stanford and Harvard). Clearly there is no significant difference between the quality of private and public education.

Nazi Germany and the Soviet Union had mandatory public education for everyone. Would you call these "great" nations?

Maybe if we made as big a deal out of getting an education as we do out of recruiting servicepeople, with slick television commercials, and billions in advertising, we might be doing better.

In fact, I think we'd do better as a nation if we reversed the military and education budgets. But then, I'm one of those over educated liberal seditionists.
