In Which Oliver Bitches, Yet Again, That The Preseason Is Too Long And Too Risky
Tweet
Next to the hurricane and my mom,
this was my biggest concern this weekend:
Washington Redskins quarterback Jason Campbell suffered nothing more serious than a bruise during Saturday night’s preseason game, tests reaffirmed yesterday. Campbell underwent a late-morning MRI exam that showed no serious damage, team officials said.
Campbell and Redskins Coach Joe Gibbs said it will be determined later in the week whether Campbell will play Saturday’s preseason game against the Baltimore Ravens.
Why is the starting QB for the Redskins endangered this way in a game that MEANS NOTHING? Sheesh.
Otherwise, the starters looked pretty good this week, especially the defense and second-year linebacker Rocky McIntosh.

Oliver, you are absolutely right about the NFL preseason- too many players get injured for no reason. UNfortunately, the NFL requires that season ticket holders pay for the 2 home preseason games- as a season ticket holder, this is outrageous. IM hoping one day that the NFL will expand the regular season to 18 games- 4 preseason games is about 3 too many.
Less bitching, more cheerleader pictures please.
The CFL cut it to two games, one at home one on the road.
Another reason it’s the better league.
The pre-season is very much a mug’s game under it’s current setup. Fans are forced to pay full price to see meaningless games in which the starters rest for most or all of the event. But if the starters were put in for more minutes in these meaningless games, they risk injuries that could cost them their season.
It’s just an absurd system.
OW, a technical note.
I’m using IE6 and over the last few days, your photos and text have been running together.
Most of the time, it doesn’t bother me, but on this post….
Two games is probably enough, three if they must. The fourth game is ridiculous, and the fans, league and especially coaches all know it. However, I don’t mind the photo of one of the Redskins’ “starters: there.
Oh, Strowbridge, any football league that has a 55 yard line is by definition not a serious football league.
“Oh, Strowbridge, any football league that has a 55 yard line is by definition not a serious football league.”
The CFL is the better league is every respect, except money.
And talent, and overall footballness.
She’s cute, but a little more “voluptuous” than I remember most cheerleaders being. Not as tightly athletic. Maybe it’s still preseason for them too?
Um, what was that post about again? I was too distracted (laughs).
