The Gleaner, the major newspaper in Jamaica, is blogging hurricane developments. My mom got all her preparedness-related materials ready as best as can be. Thankfully she’s in a very solidly constructed house and inland and elevated where there shouldn’t be flooding and the like. Still, when a storm bigger than the entire island is coming right at you… sheesh.

I lived in Jamaica as a child, and as a grown up, I live in New Orleans. My best wishes to your mother. Having been through it, I have to tell you that communications are going to be down for an insanely long time, get ready.
We’re tinkering with the global warming settings so those hurricanes they head for Mississippi instead of Jamaica. I think i’t going to take another hurricane season or two, sit tight.
It may not mean much, but I will be praying for your mom. Katrina made communication a real problem, but hang in there.
Best of luck to your mom, though it sounds like she wisely has left as little to luck as possible.
Oliver, I will keep her and well, the whole island in my prayers; that the damage will be minimal and no loss of life or injuries. I am glad she is prepared. I have not lived through a hurricane or even a tropical storm, but
the thought of it is scary.
Oliver, best of luck to your mom, I think all of our thoughts are with Jamaica right now.
Hopes and prayers to you and yours.
Good luck and good health to your mom and the island.
Looks like your Mom is in the Montpelier/Cambridge area.I grew up in the small village of Roehampton (near Anchovy) which is in th same general vicinity.
So like you I am watching and worrying.
Best wishes to you and your Mom.
