Now I remember that when the political process WAS going well, this blog and others kept on saying it didn’t matter because the military situation was bad.
Now the military situation is improving and the political process has stagnated or gotten worse, and FLIP/FLOP now it’s the political situation that matters.
One could make the case that both have to be going well for things to be getting better. But this cynical flip-flopping demands some kind of explanation.

Wrong. You know how I know? Because the political process has never been “going well.” From day one, the Shiite majority cabinet began voting on ethnic lines. Not long after, we started hearing reports of death squads being run out of the interior ministry. I suspect you sniffed too much purple ink, Adam, if you think the political situation ever looked any more promising than the military one.
How is the military situation improving? We’re seeing slightly fewer troop deaths, sure, but slightly higher civilian deaths, which will ultimately feed back into a cycle of more troop deaths. Just because we have more soldiers there doesn’t mean things have gotten “better.”

Whose “primary tactic” was it specifically? Was this a general phenomenon or just the liberals you hate the most? I want to see a cite, because I don’t think you have any evidence outside of your brain’s fevered caricature of liberal evildoers, Adam.
In fact, the “tactic” I recall was to ask: What will elections do to unify the electorate? And as I pointed out before, the immediate result of the 2005 general elections was the division of the cabinet along sectarian lines. Instead of a unity government, the Shia shut out the Kurds and the Sunnis and began running Reagan-style death squads out of the Interior Ministry.
So no, the goalposts weren’t moved — you just prefer a version of history in which you can make liberals out as villains, Adam. You don’t remeber the obvious political problems because you were willfully blind to them. The truth was obvious to see then as it is now: the political situation — and this occupation overall — was fucked from day one, and George W. Bush and all of you in the Bush war cult bear the blame.
