Wow.
Despite an almost 50-ft. free fall from competitor Jake Brown, Bob Burnquist won gold in Skateboard Big Air in the opening night of the X Games on Thursday, scoring 95.6 on the final run of the competition.

Jake Brown’s liver is damaged
Skateboarder’s 45-foot fall in big air competition causes internal bleeding, which appears to have stopped.
kateboarder Jake Brown, who bailed out above the quarterpipe from about 45 feet in the air and crashed against the flat portion of the mega-ramp, should be released from the hospital today, a friend reported.
The 32-year-old Australian, who went limp for several minutes, sustained a lacerated liver, said Danny Way, fellow skateboarder and mega-ramp inventor. The bleeding has stopped and Brown’s condition is improving, reported Way, who had been in phone contact with Brown this afternoon.
“That was the gnarliest thing I’ve ever seen in my life,” said Pierre-Luc Gagnon, another top-flight skateboarder who was standing on the arena floor during Brown’s final run.
Fellow competitors thought Brown was crouched too low when he took off from the top of the quarterpipe and that his momentum shot him away from the wall.
Brown had landed the first-ever 720-degree revolution on the mega-ramp. When he shot above the 27-foot-tall quarterpipe to complete his run, he threw his board out of his way and flailed his arms and legs in an attempt to prepare for a hard landing. His entire body, beginning with his feet and concluding with his head, smashed hard against the ramp.
Also at the X Games (Though I don’t know if it is the same X Games)

This is pretty damn impressive.
I give him a 4.9 because he missed the “X”.
Why do the shoes ALWAYS go flying after impact? Seems like no matter how tight they may be, you get hit with someone, they take off.
Sorry, *hit with something..*
I am glad he was a little further up from horizontal so his body slid a little. Had it been a little further up the ramp we would have had some skin burns but probably no “thud.”
Tough SOB no doubt. May be heal and be well.
How did the other guy win IN SPITE of Brown’s spill. Idiotic as the X-Games might be, the reporting is even moreso.
And somebody please shut ESPN’s Stuart Scott the fuck up.
