Conservative Don Surber Sends Us A Dispatch From The Land Of Make Believe
Tweet
The surge is working! A Republican congressman says so. Another Republican congressman says so.
Well that settles it. Call up John McCain, I think it’s time we went shopping in Baghdad again.
(This is the part where I usually ask, rhetorically, “do they really think we’re this stupid?” But the historical record says, yes, they do.)

The website lists a report fro m a GOP Congressman reporting back that “The Surge is WORKING!!”
This Congressman is simply spouting the party line. He says
“..Communities all across Iraq are turning against al Qaeda and working with Iraqi and coalition forces to take back their cities…”
when anyone who even pays cursory attention knows that visiting brass are dropped in at night, are made to wear body armor at all times, and have a platoon-size securty detail even while they’re walking around the “Green Zone”. This Congressman never even made it to the local market like McCain tried to, because it is simply NOT ALLOWED. Publicity would be bad, you see.
For all the wingnuts here who are praying for a turnaround in Iraq, give it up. With the Iraqi Parliament out of session for the summer, what in the world is this stupid “Surge” which is costing accelerated loss of American lives supposed to accomplish? Kee them safe around the pool?
Iraq is nowhere near a political road to stability, face it. Bush has moved the goalposts now to where stability is all he’s asking for, until he leaves office, and even that is beyond the capability of our current Iraq force to provide.
Lastly, and maybe most important for a party that has bet its entire ’08 chips on the fiction of “winning”, they are missing the point.
The war in Iraq was only a PART of the reason they got whipped in ’06. The other parts were
A. Corruption
B. Arrogance
C. Partisanship
D. Corporatism
E. Lying
As far as I can see, the current Rove-McConnell-Boehner GOP is STILL guilty of all of the above.
Got news for all you armchair generals drafting comuniques from the frontlines: Even achieving some sort of “Victory in Iraq”, and they will claim it, will not mean Victory in ’08 for the GOP.
The country’s problem with the GOP and the Conservative Movement has gone way beyond that.
The Surge has failed! Harry Reid says so! Daily Kos says so! Oliver Willis says so!
Well that settles it. Call up Jack Murtha, I think it’s time we got the hell out of there and pitched our tents in Okinawa.
Yes, Oliver, I think that the loony left-end of the Democrat party is that stupid.
Unfortunately, the historical record shows that, for the most part, “yes, we are”.
“Yes, Oliver, I think that the loony left-end of the Democrat party is that stupid.”
Which says more about your intelligence than it does ours.
You left out “all the numbers, statistics, and body bags say so”, Mike.
