Maybe I Can Finally Throw That Comcast Box Through The Window
Tweet
One of the downsides to the high def bigscreen tv I bought last year has been the fact that I’m limited to the really horribly designed Comcast DVR as my Tivo won’t work with HD/Digital TV. Now they’ve got a unit for $300.

I’ve got Verizon FiOS and I LOVE IT!! The internet connection alone makes it worth (XBOXLive video marketplace now is worth the bother)
Don’t sell satellite HD short.
You could get sports you’ve never even heard of on channels you never knew had numbers in countries you aren’t sure exist.
Then again, I don’t have a TV. But I used to have Dish, and they were fine.
Go DirecTV man, the HD DVR is very nice.
I dumped cable for Dish Network as they offered more HD channels (except for locals for some reason).
I like the HD-DVR they have (and I own it as opposed to cable where you rent the stupid thing). Why pay the additional cost for Tivo?
Well, I live in an apartment where satellite isn’t currently an option.
Right. I didn’t think of that.
But won’t you still have to get Comcast’s HD box which will then run to the Tivo setup?
Fuck yeah. Replace “Comcast” with “Cox” and I am in much the same boat.
I’ve had thoughts about setting up a MythTV box before, but I simply don’t have the time — and when all is said and done it would probably come out to more than $300 in parts anyway, and would STILL only be able to get basic channels in HD.

AFAIK you ask the cable company to install a CableCard in the TiVo. As I understand it, they really don’t like doing this but are legally obligated to provide it as an option.
Comcast is supposed to roll out an actual TiVo brand DVR at some point in the near future. The deal was cut last year. You might want to wait a few months.
