Only Democrats Can End The War

I do not understand the stupidity in Democratic/liberal circles – both inside and outside of the Beltway – that believes that the way out of Iraq lies in the Republican party. No matter how much the press piles attention on "defectors" from Bush’s failed policy, the war is still widely supported by Republican members of the House and Senate. As usual, they represent a fringe position that is exactly the opposite of the American people. Why do you think that would change simply because so many lives are on the line?

This idea that all of a sudden Republicans are going to grow consciences overnight is the height of folly. They do not learn. They do not care. They simply know that they do not want to admit that they were wrong and that they are lead by an idiot. They are an irrational gang of people not to be reasoned with. A few months ago the Democratic party did exactly what brought them into the minority for so long: they decided to lie down with dogs, and are shocked now that they have fleas.

Don’t do it again. Pass a timeline for withdrawl from Iraq. If the senate Republicans block it, make them go on the floor and truly filibuster funding for the troops and the end of the war. If the president vetoes it, send it right back to his desk. If the Democrats waver, they will be rewarded with even lower ratings and less support. To follow in the footsteps of the Republican party is to betray the security and sovereignty of the country.

  1. Only the Democrats can end the Iraq occupation, but the Democrats, for a variety a reasons, don’t want to end the Iraq occupation.

    This much is clear.

Will the Democrats make a move if they have a Republican fig leaf?

    I don’t think so.

    Hallelujah OW

Time to grow a frickin backbone Dems

66 percent of the American public is with you.

The question is not whether or not Democrats can end the war, but will they end the war. It’s heartening to see that after a decade plus in the minority, the Congressional Democrats are back to their usual spineless selves.
