World Championship Of American Football

This is very cool. But the thing is, guys, we have to win this. Every time. It sucks but isn’t a big deal if the U.S. doesn’t win a world championship at things like baseball and basketball. There’s something resembling an excuse there. But to lose at FOOTBALL? No, not at all.

Oliver – I wish them luck, but it is important to realize that these are NCAA football players who couldn’t make it in the NFL and/or the CFL (or even the now defunct NFL Europe).

I can agree with the baseball statement, but for basketball fans its a travesty that we are getting beaten soundly by other teams.

The US can’t expect to dominate those sports forever.

England never wins anything in soccer, cricket or rugby. Their only soccer World Cup win was in 1966.

Competitive martial arts are dominated by Americans, Brazilians and Russians, not Japanese or Chinese.

In basketball, foreign teams that play together constantly are going to have some advantage over a group of Americans stars, who although they are better players individually, have never played as a group until two weeks before the tournament. It used to be that the gap between the US and foreign players was so great that the team factor barely mattered, but that is no longer the case.

    Ashes, 2005!

And they lost the Ashes 5-0 in 2006.

But I agree that we have to win the American football thingy. It would be even sweeter if there was one more country in addition to Canada that took football seriously. I’m trying like hell to convince the Aussies that football is an excellent way to hurt other people, but the lack of an English presence leaves them somewhat disinterested.

I think it’s the wussie padding and helmets that put them off.
