Does Jonah Goldberg Need A Flashlight To See With His Head Firmly Shoved Up His Rear?

In response to a critical assessment of his appearance on MSNBC’s “Tucker”, National Review’s Jonah Goldberg writes:

Ahhh…straight to Hitler. Never mind the fact he Adolf was the 20th century’s most successful demagogue, obsessed with his public image. Dick Cheney just has to be like Hitler.

This is the cover of Jonah Goldberg’s much delayed book:

Absolute prick, thy name be Jonah.

  5. jimmmm says:

Dude’s obsessed with Hitler … and his ma, Lucianne.

One and the same, really. Except that Hitler had only one testicle, and Lucianne has at least two…

  6. “Except that Hitler had only one testicle,”

Just a side note, there’s no evidence that Hitler only had one ball.

  7. Marty says:

Stupid Cover, Jonah. Great title. Stupid cover. Why make it a debate about the cover? Is shock value really worth it? I doubt it.

It’s just like when my friends (and I do consider you my friends) compare anyone in the Bush administration to Hitler. No liberal and no one on the right is deliberatly rounding up and exterminating millions of people.

While elements of fascism creep into the rhetoric of those both on the left and the right (believe as we do or we’ll deny you your right to say what you believe) comparing anybody to Hitler is just one stretch too far for anyone in the U.S.

  8. Duros62 says:

No liberal and no one on the right is deliberatly rounding up and exterminating millions of people.

That wasn’t the only thing Hitler did, though. And be sure to tell that to the Minutemen. There are those who would like to.

  9. Marty says:

There are those that would like to what Duros? Round up and exterminate millions of people? Is that what you really think the Minutemen are about? I guess I’ll just have to politely disagree with you. I don’t think that their objective is to kill anybody at the border, or anyone who is already here illegally. But let’s not threadjack here about immigration. I just disagree that you could compare them with Hitler. If they were advocating what you implied- intentionally or not- who would follow their lead? Could they convince an entire nation as Hitler did? I strongly doubt it.

  10. Hitler was also about racial purity, if you remember. Certainly they’re unable to go to that extreme, but the Minutemen are simply about trying to keep America white. It’s not possible to go after blacks and other minorities anymore, so they go after Hispanics.

  11. “While elements of fascism creep into the rhetoric of those both on the left and the right”

What happens when elements of fascism creep into the policies of the people on the right. Can we make Hitler comparisons then?

  12. Duros62 says:

No, I doubt it too, Marty. But there are people out there who want to keep Amurca white and pure. You can’t dispute that. Sure, they are a lunatic fringe and will always be so. But the fact that there out there still is cause for concern.
    At least for me.

  13. Marty says:

Oliver- sometimes you’re as dumb as a effing stump. Can you come up with something better than “keep America white?” It’s not about Hispanics.
Are the Minutemen out in boats on the coast of Florida trying to keep people fleeing Cuba out of the country? No.(Last I heard, most Cubans are Hispanic.)Are they fighting for restrictions on legal immigration by Hispanics? No.

In fact, find me one person in Congress against ILLEGAL immigration that favors restricting legal immigration by Hispanics. (Tom Tancredo doesn’t even fit that description. By the way- If Tancredo “hates Hispanics, why are several of the major players on his staff Hispanic. You would think….never mind.)

And as someone who is against illegal immigration as you are- is it because you hate Hispanics? Should the headline be “OLIVER WILLIS HATES HISPANICS!!”?

Now back to C.S. and the intelligent conversation we were about to have-

C.S. – “What happens when elements of fascism creep into the policies of the people on the right. Can we make Hitler comparisons then?”

My answer is no. Just like I wouldn’t make Hitler comparisons for Unions wanting our Congress to legislate the elimination of secret ballots in their organizing elections. It may be a fascist move in my opinion, but nothing that compares to Hitler.

Nor would I consider the attempt to silence one specific area of political discourse (i.e. talk radio) by imposing the dubiously named “Fairness Doctrine.” (You can have free speech in the market place as long as we can force you to give our viewpoint in your private enterprise.) Somewhat fascist, although not even close to Hitlarian. (Yes- a new word.)

Heck- I wouldn’t even consider the ACLU trying to have a cross removed from a prominant war memorial on public grounds in San Diego as Hitlarian- although their methods in this area (removing religious symbols from public view) are becoming more and more facsist.

What examples did you want to throw at me? (Of the fascist policies of the right that you might want compare favorably to Hitler when you really shouldn’t go there.)

  14. frameone says:

I don’t know, man, arguing that Nazism was liberal is stupid. Does that mean liberals can’t be intolerant? Of course not. But the new subtitle brings Jonah dangerously close to Dead Kennedys territory:

    “California Uber Alles”

    I am Governor Jerry Brown
    My aura smiles
    And never frowns
    Soon I will be president…

Carter Power will soon go away
I will be Fuhrer one day
I will command all of you
Your kids will meditate in school
Your kids will meditate in school!

    [Chorus:]
    California Uber Alles
    California Uber Alles
    Uber Alles California
    Uber Alles California

    Zen fascists will control you
    100% natural
You will jog for the master race
And always wear the happy face

Close your eyes, can’t happen here
Big Bro’ on white horse is near
The hippies won’t come back you say
Mellow out or you will pay
Mellow out or you will pay!

    [Chorus]

    Now it is 1984
    Knock-knock at your front door
    It’s the suede/denim secret police
They have come for your uncool niece

    Come quietly to the camp
You’d look nice as a drawstring lamp
    Don’t you worry, it’s only a shower
For your clothes here’s a pretty flower.

    DIE on organic poison gas
    Serpent’s egg’s already hatched
You will croak, you little clown
When you mess with President Brown
When you mess with President Brown

  15. “It may be a fascist move in my opinion”

Your definition of fascist is… unusual.

  16. Nimrod Gently says:

That’s quite a FASCIST THING TO SAY

  17. Oliver says:

Yes, I simply imagined the connection between white supremacists and the Minutemen. Or all the rhetoric about white culture being tainted by Mexicans. Yup, never happened.

  18. frameone says:

    “Hitlarian. (Yes- a new word.”

FYI, that’s not a new word, you just mispelled it: It’s “Hitlerian.”

  19. That American Chap says:

“While elements of fascism creep into the rhetoric of those both on the left and the right”

Somebody needs to explain to me how fascism can creep into the rhetoric of the Left. You see, this is the same language bullshit that Newty used to play, making it seem as though fascism is evident in both Right or Left, when it isn’t. Get a goddamned dictionary as it has nothing to do with leftys (but I can sure understand how the Right would like to smear it on us). It’s a bit like cutting a particularly nasty fart and then pointing to the guy next to you. BTW, “Conservative Communism” makes as much sense as this clown’s book title.

  20. condipundit says:

“BTW, “Conservative Communism” makes as much sense as this clown’s book title.”

You are right on that. “Conservative Cretinism” strikes me as a much, much more fitting title. :)

  21. bartkid says:

So, does Pantsload think Mr. Cheney is a less than successful demagogue?
That is the way I read it.

  22. Duros62 says:

FYI, that’s not a new word, you just mispelled it: It’s “Hitlerian.”

    Perhaps you meant “Hitlarious.”
