When examining the media’s (collective and individual) decisions regarding whom to legitimize, one must recall two factors that control everything else:

1) Advertisers expect a predictable product for their investment bank or gastric reflux pill corporate clients.

2) The “on-air talent [sic]” have an economic career incentive not to do anything to get out of the DC “crab pot” worldview to paraphrase DuBois.

We have greatness in this country, just not much of it in the DC journalism crabpot. We could use a Lance Armstrong-quality investigative journalist in DC. Josh Marshall is in New York, I think his operation is great. Maybe Sy Hersh – again, as New York as they come. Woodward is ethically compromised. Have you heard anything good done by Carl Bernstein lately? Has the Post actually broken anything dramatic about Iraq or Iran in the last 2 years is it still getting beaten to the punch?

Yes: I, too, vaguely remember the days when I thought that JOURNALISTS and PUNDITS on the TEEVEE must be, like, a superior breed of people or something because, hey, people want them to talk on the TEEVEE. And some of them are quite smart and knowledgeable. But some of them…well, some of them really are just useless and wouldn’t exist were it not that they filled a niche created by the warped ecosystem of corporate TV.

I had the same experience, Oliver. For example, there was once a time when I considered myself politically astute because I watched Meet the Press on Sundays. Yay me! Luckily, time passed, I learned a lot more, and grew up, and now I realize that I’m politically astute because I DON’T waist my time on that shitty show.

Could anyone be this dumb? CARLSON: "The ad touches close to the mother lode of Hillary's vulnerability among some women. When you ask them why they don't like her, they say it's because they don't understand why she makes goo-goo eyes at a guy who broke her heart multiple times and humiliated her daughter. After that, pretending to be a teenager in love makes them wonder what else she might be faking." Really? Which women think this? Carlson doesn't bother to say. Is she reporting the result of a poll? Her own informal interviewing? Or is she just inventing what "some women" think to mask her own prejudices? That column is a disgrace.
