Problems Of The Left

I don’t agree with most of the conclusions and accusations in this Matt Taibbi rant about the left in the regularly loopy AdBusters magazine (it’s the slick looking magazine that screams that something is wrong but never says what you should do about it), but I thought this snippet made sense:

We all know where this stuff comes from. Anyone who’s ever been to a lefty political meeting knows the deal – the problem is the “spirit of inclusiveness” stretched to the limits of absurdity. The post-sixties dogma that everyone’s viewpoint is legitimate, everyone‘s choice about anything (lifestyle, gender, ethnicity, even class) is valid, that’s now so totally ingrained that at every single meeting, every time some yutz gets up and starts rambling about anything, no matter how ridiculous, no one ever tells him to shut the fuck up. Next thing you know, you’ve got guys on stilts wearing mime makeup and Cat-in-the-Hat striped top-hats leading a half-million people at an anti-war rally. Why is that guy there? Because no one told him that war is a matter of life and death and that he should leave his fucking stilts at home.

Careful… the last time TBogg got into this subject, things got messy.

    Funny, too.

Coalitions are messy. Some people just don’t have any sense on this. This topic is very flameable though.

I got pissed going to anti-war rallies and people would get up and talk about Freeing Mumia, health care, their navel, gay rights, whatever cause you can imagine.

It’s not that I disagree with all these concerns, it was that I was at a farking anti-war rally. Invite me to attend a rally on your issue. I might come.

Your spartacus youth brigade literature littering kid with pink hair screaming very loudly does not convince a famer in Iowa to end the war, which was the purpose of the rally.

Either have a let’s rally against everything rally, or go and support the actual cause in a helpful way. If you can’t, just STFU.

Can we officially make “Leave the fucking stilts at home” the automatic response to that kind of totally counter-productive nonsense? Someone starts going on about “Free Mumia” at an anti-war rally – leave the fucking stilts at home, buddy. Someone starts in with the “Smash Capitalism” stuff at a pro-immigtation rally – leave the fucking stilts at home.

The biggest delusion on the left is that the dems, if elected, will end the war in Iraq. That’s the main problem not some guy on stilts.

The world’s most important energy region will not be left up for grabs. That’s capitalism and it is really “Blood for Oil”– respectable liberals just can’t fathom that their own rhetoric might be true.
