Do Not Pass Go

2:20 pm EST June 14th, 2007 | Republicans | 17 Comments

Good times.

A federal judge said Thursday he will not delay a 2 1/2-year prison sentence for I. Lewis “Scooter” Libby in the CIA leak case, a ruling that could send the former White House aide to prison within weeks.

And as usual, conservatives showed their contempt for judges and our judicial system. Then again, this is the same party who had a U.S. senator say he understood the urge to kill judges.

He also said he received several “angry, harassing, mean-spirited” letters and phone calls following his sentencing but said they wouldn’t factor into his decision.

But he didn’t do anything wrong! He’s an innocent victim of the system! Etc!

  2. SaveFarris says:

When this gets overturned due to the sheer incompetence of Judge Walton, I’m going to have myself a good laugh. And then ask, for the 857th time, where is Richard Armitage?

  3. Wellstone says:

Why not ask why Libby lied and obstructed Justice?

That’s what got Libby convicted by a jury and put him where he is, not Armitage.

Better circle some more wagons, Farris, your boy is going to jail.

After reading that, I’m having myself a pretty good laugh right now.

Though you do have a point re Armitage, however my question still is what about Novak, the Douchebag of Liberty?

By all means run with the incompetence defense, Farris, Walton was a Bush appointee.

Actually, what the Justice Department should be discussing is the substantial evidence (reports, memos, sworn testimony, etc.) that contradicts the sworn statements made by Valerie Plame last March.

If our new precedent is that contradictory statements are grounds for a perjury indictment and trial, someone should be serving Ms. Plame and all those who contradicted her with subpoenas right now.

After all, we just want to know the whole truth, right?

  7. Marty says:

Uh- PD? Walton was a bone thrown to the Democrats. Bill Clinton originally nominated Walton and was never assigned. Bush re-nominated him when he got into office. Guess that worked out now didn’t it?

Well, they’ve had almost 2 months now with plenty of litigious minds firing away at Plame’s testimony, right?

Well? Any real case for perjury yet? Any filed? Briefed?

    Nope.

Given that we now know members of the judical branch -ahem, come and go these days but “not for political reasons”, I’d say yeah- that’s one that Fat Karl missed and it worked out pretty fuckin-A!

    p.s. Eat Dick.

Looks like Clinton saw this one coming. What a set up!!! Nominate a judge years ago so he could be ready to pounce today. Brilliant…

In 2009, the Republicant’s will once again be the Law and Order Party. Not before.

I’m so old I can remember when Republicans didn’t like lying under oath. Seems like all of you owe Bill Clinton an apology!

  12. Dugger says:

Libby is as close to a true political prisoner as we have int his country. Why anybody of decent human instincts would celebrate his jailing is beyond me.

  13. Duros62 says:

Libby is as close to a true political prisoner as we have in this country.

    You can’t possibly be serious.

Right. He’s in jail for opposing the dictatorial powers of…of…um, who?

  15. Dugger says:

He’s in jail because he was ‘caught’ as part of the investigative process mechanics. Not because it was established an outing crime was committed or that he committed the original crime. If he were a leftist like Sandy Berger, would he be doing time?

  16. Nimrod Gently says:

Oh, he can be serious. Never underestimate the power of Dugger to defy Occam’s Razor. And Harry the Talking Points Droid for that matter.

Shorter Dugger through the magic of Simpsons quotes:

“Libby’s a patriot, like… all those people in jail.”
