Oppressor!
Apparently I’m evil somehow because I post pictures of Kim Kardashian’s booty. Somehow. Anyhow I responded as I’m sure most of you would understand in the comments there. Shorter Oliver: I like politics, football, Superman, and yes, booty (I have a degree in this, for Christ’s sake).

Evil, not so much. Still like the blog, even the cheesecake bits. But blogs are at least a semi-public space. It’s not CNN, but we do have some influence on our individual readers and a tiny bit on press coverage. As you say, with great power comes great responsibility.
I’m not saying we all need to be prudes in public … that’s just silly. Just maybe think about including some Brad Pitt shots for, as TMQ says, your female and nontraditional male readers.
Oh. My. Gawd. Don’t these prudes have anything else to do, like talk about Ms. Fred Thompson’s girls or debate whether or not she “works the pole”?
I know Ann Althouse didn’t a few days ago.
Not evil, just very juvenile.
That’s kind of the point.
Nobody called you evil, Oliver. And I’m sure nobody needs to explain to you that you have absolutely no obligation to stop “blogling” (blogging+ogling) on your own dang forum no matter how many readers you may discomfort, readers who otherwise really like your writing. Our comfort is not your responsibility. Civility and concern is no more mandatory in the virtual world than in the real world. But choices have consequences, and the choice you absolutely have every right to make does tend to limit your credibility as regards feminist topics.
Nicholas, you say you recognize that Oliver’s blog is not CNN, but then you proceed to hold him to the same standards as CNN. Oliver Willis is the wave of the future – a future where a straight man can be progressive, enlightened, liberated and still be honest, on his own personal blog that he finds women attractive (and mutatis mutandis for gay men and for women of all stripes). Your suggestion that he give equal time for pictures of Brad Pitt is just silly, and misses the whole point of having a blog, which is the empowerment of the personal vision.
And Elayne, if you think that Oliver’s honesty about his attraction to women limits his credibility on feminist issues then that says a lot more about you than it does about him. If you’re saying that it is necessary for every straight man to be silent or disingenuous about his sexuality in order to be feminist, then you’ve got a pretty limited view of feminism.
Both of you: there are plenty of battles remaining to be fought in the gender wars, but Oliver Willis is not your enemy. Stop wasting your ammunition.
Oh my god! Oliver Willis finds some women sexy!
This is obviously because his mom didn’t raise him right and not millions of years of evolution.
“I’m not saying we all need to be prudes in public”
Give me a break, that’s exactly what you are saying. Otherwise why bring it up at all, as if you are Oliver’s consciense or something.
It’s not CNN, but we do have some influence on our individual readers and a tiny bit on press coverage. As you say, with great power comes great responsibility.
then for god’s sake, get them to stop talking about Paris fucking Hilton! An hour on Larry King? WTF?!?
I’m not saying we all need to be prudes in public … that’s just silly. Just maybe think about including some Brad Pitt shots for, as TMQ says, your female and nontraditional male readers.
Speech and thought police brought to you by feminism.
Oliver Willis needs to provide “balance” on his blog and provide speech that his female (and gay (?)) readers will approve of.
Next, Oliver Willis needs to provide balance on his blog and provide speech that Republicans will approve of.
But oh no, the feminist police are not speech or thought police.
