A monster firebreathing penis?

I do wish they'd put more effort into researching new technology for getting there. Shuttles are cutting it less all the time.

It was cool working on the rehost of the Mission Control trajectory server system. Even if some of the management decisions were kinda dumb at times. You can check out some of my photos of Johnson Space Center Building 30 (Mission Control), if you're interested.

BTW they've now built a shelter over the Saturn 5. It needed it, since some of the engine nozzles are starting to lean a bit due to rust, but it's a shame you can't get a picture like that of the whole thing anymore...

To the moon, and beyond.

Amazing how President Jack Kennedy's call to Americans to take the lead, to seize the moment for the human race is still inspiring, after all these years.

It's called "LEADERSHIP".

And there was a time when America was the standard by which all others were measured.

A nice perfect launch.

On Tuesday Messenger made its last Venus fly-by on its way to Mercury.

The HiRise camera on MRO discovered what looks like a skylight into an underground cavern on Mars.
http://apod.nasa.gov/apod/ap070528.html

Dawn launches in July on its way to Ceres and Vesta. Dawn will use ion propulsion.

Phoenix will head to the Martian arctic in August.

While I think it was remarkably foolish to stop manned missions to the Moon in the '70s, I don't want to see scientific robots get underfunded just so we can put bodies on the moon.

As for humans on Mars...we still don't know how to shield the astronauts from the solar wind nor how to overcome 6-9 months of bone and tissue loss on the way.

It is damn cool though!

Me too Oliver!

16 Flights left. Godspeed to each one.

And um, let's go back to the moon and onto Mars.
