He is not an improve actor. He doesn’t have the training in that area. For that matter, he doesn’t have the story telling ability of Reagan either.

I agree with most of what you said, but I still think he can’t handle a real debate. Something where he isn’t in control all of the time, and by he I mean his team of handlers.

As a liberal Democrat I am more concerned about Thompson than about any of the other Republican candidates.
Why?

Because he is a trained actor.
Actors know how to emote.
Actors have stage presence.
Actors know how to work a crowd.
Actors know how to reach an audience.

Politics today is more about show than substance.

The next election will not be decided on the issues.

The next election will be decided on showmanship.

I think any of the Democrats could beat any of the currently declared Republicans.

I think if he decides to run Thompson’s performance skills would make him hard to beat.

We need to take him seriously because he “plays in Peoria.”

Following in the finest Conservative Candidate tradition, from the party that showed America a man with Alzheimer’s could run the country into the ground as well as any other Conservative.

Bill Bradley Link wrote a brilliant Op-Ed in 2005 that described the Conservative Movement as a Pyramid.

The base of the pyramid was the millionaires and special interests that finance the next level of the pyramid, the think-tanks and idea mills.

These feed policy and message to the third level, the media arms, PAC’s, strategists, and activists.

At the veeery top of this pyramid is the public team of candidates, which by design are chosen for loyalty, message discipline, and public personal appeal.

This top level, for which Thompson has been drafted, is interchangeable and disposable in this Conservative model, like Bush. If he were to fall, Cheney would step in and run the country, and if Cheney falls McConnell, Boehner, or any GOP suit could step in.

Democrats are the exact oposite: We are an inverted pyramid.

We START with a Candidate, and develop ideas and foundations of policies to support the Candidate’s strong points.

Thompson is just a pawn in service of his masters, and he wil fill the bill and put himself forward as the public face for Conservative policy, and get his vote.

But it will be up to the base and middle tier of the pyramid, the FOX News, the TalkRadio, the pundits to forge him into a legit contender.

And, as you can see, that master plan is slowly unfolding before us.

Because apparently “Democrat” means you respectfully kowtow to your Republican betters and carry their water with wild-eyed fury.

But Hollywood otherwise is a cesspool and nobody from Hollywood can be trusted and actors know nothing about politics blah blah blah.
