No, there must be some mistake there. We all know that conservatives are all about the MARKETPLACE OF IDEAS! “Purging” people for views deviant from orthodoxy? That’s for Stalinists, isn’t it?
It seems the Right is fracturing into two distinct groups: the Totally Fucking Nuts, and the Holy Krap, He Did NOT Just Say That! factions.
Dear Rudy,
If you need a shoulder to lean on, I totally understand.
Your friend,
Harriet Miers
I’m so proud. *sniff*
I liked this bit: Longtime posters to the freewheeling discussion threads, used to serious no-holds-barred web etiquette. . .
That is, freewheeling discussions among those who haven’t been banned for deviating from the hard right line. I guess “no holds barred” doesn’t extend very far.
LOL!! I was banned from Free Republic after 3 comments. I pointed out that the Catholic church had no established position on early abortions for the first 1200 years of its existence, and that it was self-defeating to refer to 65% of the populace as traitors and loons. Ironically, it was a very tepid defense of Jimmy Carter that got me troll-banned. Somebody helpfully pointed out down-thread that defending Carter would get anyone banned in a minute. “Clearly, this place isn’t for you,” I was told. They had that right. I don’t debase myself by competing in some kind of forensic special olympics.
Can I write “9/11/01″ here, or will I be censored. Know it folks, if you don’t read this post, Oliver Willis hates your freedom. Or something.
I’m a Republican and a (self-proclaimed) conservative, and I was banned long ago, when I was pointing out the fascist overtones of the current regime and its backers.
Strangely enough, I’ve found a home and Crooks and Liars, where there is openness and respect for differing viewpoints. Yeah, I get some flack from the left wing dummies, but there are enough intelligent people on the left that we can have a conversation.
There is no real conversation on Free Republic. It’s a multi voice monologue.
Can I write “9/11/01″ here, or will I be censored.
I can’t tell if your tone is ironic. It’s hard to tell because so many others who write such sentences aren’t being ironic. So in case you’re not…
You should be allowed to say “9/11″ whenever you wish. What’s obnoxious is when “9/11″ is your answer to all difficult questions regarding American domestic and foreign policy.
Yes, I’m being ironic. Please…yes, I’m being ironic. I wrote “or something” at the end illustrative of the ridiculous arguments that wingnuts make about the supposed danger of free speech.
Ah. My mistake. Seriously…I can’t tell anymore.
