The leading foreign policy think-tank, Chatham House, is warning that Iraq faces the distinct possibility of collapse and fragmentation.
A new report from the London-based Chatham House, also known as the Royal Institute of International Affairs, argues that the Iraqi government is now largely powerless and irrelevant in large parts of the country, as a range of local civil wars and insurgencies are fought.
Intersting. Gordon Brown will be Prime Minister in six weeks time. I have no idea where he stands on Iraq.
Sounds like a good question for the next Democratic debate — “If you were to immediately withdraw American troops and military support from Iraq after you took the Oath of Office, how would you be prepared to deal with the death chaos that is predicted to ensue?”
… death AND chaos …
I really need to start proofreading.
I concur, only drop the “proof”. Death and chaos and death chaos already has ensued.
There are only two outcomes for Iraq:
1. Death and chaos with American casualties.
2. Death and chaos without American casualties.
I choose the latter.
“I really need to start proofreading.”
I’d suggest you start thinking as well. Not only, to Nimrod’s point, does the study suggest that Iraq is ALREADY awash in death and chaos, it suggests that the Americansand British need to come up with a radical change in policy if they ever want to try moving things in the right direction again. Which is to say: Everything we’ve tried has so far failed. Pulling out is the only thing left to do.
How about big chemical bombs filled with laughing gas?
And free puppies.
