So Funny

If you’ve spent any time on Digg (friend me at “owillis”) you know that the Ron Paul folks are highly organized online (a coalition of paleocons and 9/11 truth conspiracy theorists) and they freep a lot of polls in Paul’s favor. So you’ve got these Fox talking heads who have to keep declaring Ron Paul as the winner of their text message poll the same night he makes the pretty odious observation that we brought on 9/11. I think Sean Hannity wanted to puke.

Paul got a half million votes for President on a minor party ticket more than a decade before 9/11 happened.

You should consider that fact before assigning all of his internet support to 9/11 conspiracy theorists.

The fact of the matter is that Paul appears to libertarian Republicans of the Reason.com stripe, and also to goldbugs. Those are two of the most politically obsessed groups in the culture. Paul votes swamp online polls because his natural supporters are actually paying attention to the process at this point, and Rudy and McCain’s supporters are out bowling or something.

The fact that you can even spell let alone “decide” who is good or bad is astounding.

  3. Oliver says:

Oh no, the Ron Paulers are here!!!

  4. matrok says:

Hi Oliver – no winger I (Pauler or otherwise) but the man is 100% correct. Jihadists don’t give too flying &@#s about US freedom but they certainly resent US presence in Muslim holy lands, unconditional support for Israel and alliances with dictators (he mentioned the Shah of Iran who was installed by the CIA in replacement of the democratically elected Mossadegh and there have been lots lots lots more…). And no, I don’t support killing 3,000 innocents at all but like Paul said this is “blowback” pure and simple.

I support Ron Paul – He’s is simply the only choice for a conservative/republican who is/was against the war in Iraq. And, believe it or not, there are some! Most intellectual conservatives were against this war before it started in 2003. Did you know that? Pat Buchanan, Tucker Carlson (a little silly, I know) Charley Reese said in 2002 “is a prescription for the decline and fall of the American empire. Overextension – urged on by a bunch of rabid intellectuals who wouldn’t know one end of a gun from another” Paul Craig Roberts, who was one of the highest-ranking Treasury Department officials under President Reagan and now a nationally-syndicated conservative columnist, wrote: “an invasion of Iraq is likely the most thoughtless action in modern history.” On and on and these quotes are from 2002! This war was Undeclared, un-provoked, liberal “nation building” I know it is hard, but we, as conservatives, have got to do some deep thinking about this issue and wake up!

Is Libertarian just a code-word for a Bushie with self-respect?

  7. “but like Paul said this is “blowback” pure and simple.”

He’s 100% right, just like you said.

He’s also 100% unelectable as a Republican for saying it.

  8. SpiderJ says:

Here’s my cynical question–if Paul is 100% unelectable as a Republican for saying it, what percentage unelectable is a Democrat who says it?

Because no matter how right the “blowback” characterization is, the country is still filled to the brim with people who will go to their graves insisting that America is incapable of doing anything wrong, that 9/11 had no roots in anything except Irrational Evil and Hatred. And if you dare say otherwise, even an inch, it’s because you too are Irrationally Evil and Hateful.

  9. “Here’s my cynical question–if Paul is 100% unelectable as a Republican for saying it, what percentage unelectable is a Democrat who says it?”

About 90%, maybe as low as 80%.

Even the 28%ers won’t vote for a Republican who says American is remotely to blame for 9/11, and without them, the Republicans can’t win.

However, these people wouldn’t vote for a Democrat regardless, so it doesn’t hurt them as much. That said, the media would spend the entire election arguing that point and that person would be unable to get back on message.

  10. Chum says:

Yeah OW, you can add me to the Ron Paul supporters you think are nutbags. He callled out the crazies on the House floor in a speech titled “Neo-conned” long before most on the left caught on to the cabal that took over our government. He doesn’t forward any 9-11 theories so I don’t know where you get the conspiracy stuff from. He does believe that empire building is taking place because he reads what the cons write. If you think that is crazy then maybe you are certifiable???

  11. zak822 says:

“believe it or not, there were some”. Why were they all so quiet? I can barely hear them even now, it must be that low, soft murmer in the background.

Ron Paul and maybe Huckabee are the only actual conservatives in sight. And both are sinking fast. Tells me all I need to know about the direction of the GOP.
