Fear In The Green Zone

('DiggThis’)

In case you missed it, the green zone is the most heavily fortified, protected and secured area in all of Iraq. And the embassy workers there are scared for their lives.

As rocket and mortar attacks on the heavily fortified Green Zone in Baghdad injure more and more people, McClatchy reporter Leila Fadel reports today that U.S. Embassy employees “are growing increasingly angry over what they say are inadequate security precautions.”

Recent attacks have killed six people, including two U.S. citizens.

These chickens**** clearly didn’t read the document that said “Victory” a lot nor did they add their blog to the blogroll of VictoryCaucus.

Do they really expect the war profiteers to give a rat’s ass about their safety?

This just in: People die in war. Civil servants and journalists disenchanted.

This just in: Frank di Salle found to be completely lacking in empathy or basic human decency. World shrugs.

Hey, NG: You stealing my material now?

Listen, junior, someone should have told them when they that got that “hazardous duty” pay for being in a combat zone, that they weren’t getting extra money to follow around an orange Dodge Charger

  5. Nimrod Gently says:

No, I’m mocking you. Jesus, you’d think you’d recognise that when you see it.

Actually Frank, most of these embassy employees had no choice.

About 2 years ago no one in the foreign service, whether State Department or USAID, was volunteering to go to Iraq.

The Sec of State then issued directives to all FSs that if anyone ever hoped to get a promotion or a pay raise under this administration they had to go and serve at least one tour of duty (which is actually 3-4 years) in Iraq or Afghanistan.

They could do that or quit and lose their pension.

Regardless, no one, whether they are getting danger pay or not, should expect to not come home.

I know a ton of FSs, and I’m quite sure they would give up their danger pay lift to get home safe.

  7. You just don’t get it Frank. The Green Zone is the most heavily guarded part of Iraq and even it is no longer safe.

    From this we can conclude:

    1.) The surge failed.
    2.) The war is lost.

  8. Quaker in a Basement says:

So if I understand correctly, the war is over except when it’s not.

Condi was scheduled to go this week, but doggonnit, Payless was running a “BOGO” (Buy One Get One) free sale.
