Choose: Iraq or Kansas?
I don’t know about you, but I’d rather the National Guard was around to help the people of Kansas than getting shot at and blown up in order to protect some Iraqis.
The rebuilding effort in tornado-ravaged Greensburg, Kansas, likely will be hampered because some much-needed equipment is in Iraq, said that state’s governor.
Governor Kathleen Sebelius said much of the National Guard equipment usually positioned around the state to respond to emergencies is gone. She said not having immediate access to things like tents, trucks and semitrailers will really handicap the rebuilding effort.
The Greensburg administrator estimated that 95 percent of the town of 1500 was destroyed by Friday’s tornado.

I’d rather they were here in the states mowing my lawn…but what are you going to do?
Of course the law here is quite clears…
The National Defense Act, 1916
This act abandoned the idea of an expandable Regular Army and firmly established the traditional concept of the citizens’ army as the keystone of the United States defense forces. It established the concept of merging the National Guard, the Army Reserve, and the Regular Army into the Army of the United States in time of war. The act further expanded the National Guard’s role, and guaranteed the State militias’ status as the Army’s primary reserve force.
I don’t know about you, but I’d rather the National Guard was around to help the people of Kansas than getting shot at and blown up in order to protect some Iraqis.
Clearly, you just don’t love America enough Oliver.
What is it about governers named Kathleen and their inability to grasp protocol of the National Guard?
We get the law, Pedro, the point is we shouldn’t BE at war with Iraq.
In Vietnam, they had a Hamlet Relocation Program.
Greensburg looks like it was laid out with a T – square.
It should either be razed and cleared for, OR new real estate made available for, its complete rebuilding from the ground up.
Whatever equipment and engineers are required should be provided by or paid for by the United States Government and a Bond issuance of the State of Kansas voted on toute de suite.
Any objections out there?
Farris, you win today’s biggest asshole award.
Frank, I agree. This is a reasonable use of U.S. Treasury dollars.
Zadura jumped the gun there I feel.
Fuck you Pedro. You sent us in there as well, remember? Special relationship and all that.
To give SaveFarris’ the benefit of a doubt, and at the same time underscore Oliver’s poor reasoning:
With all the tornadoes they have in Kansas, there ought to be some mechanisms in place for clean up.
I mean, you can’t count on every tornado being declared a Federal disaster, so that the Governor gets to have the National Guard mobilized. They’re not the State’s handy men, for cryin’ out loud.
Kansas was wearing a short skirt and deserved what it got.
NG: Stop striving to be a twit.
Save your sense of humor for “s” and beans.
I was quoting August J. Pollack actually. Or was it Tom Tomorrow, I forget. What you said seemed kind of reminiscent of some things people like you said after Katrina, also to absolve your little friends from any blame.
It was Tom.
Well, NG, then the assholeism was that of Tom Tomorrow. Next time, don’t plagiarize.
The truth is, in the case of New Orleans, the Mayor of New Orleans and the Governor of Louisiana totally messed up their end of the game — a complicated game that is not easy for Brits to understand.
Imagine if the Thames somehow overflowed its banks, and the Lord Mayor of London had to ask PM Tony Blair to ask the Queen to send in aid.
Now imagine that the Mayor of London screwed up, AND Tony Blair screwed up; and then they tried to blame it on the Queen.
Well, that’s what happened — and, as far as the Left in America is concerned they have gotten clean away with it.
This situation is in no way the same.
Hence, no blaming of the Governor or the Feds.
Frank, this comment section is just typical of you isn’t it? You actually show some sense of humanity in your early posts, but you get a chance to be confrontational and you can’t stop yourself.
What the devil is wrong with you old man? Should we start taking away your little bit of government largess? Lord knows that you take away more from the system than you put in.
It’s only common sense that the cheapest, quickest, most efficient way to deal with the situation in Greensburg is to rebuild the town.
But that doesn’t resolve Oliver’s bogus conundrum about the use of the National Guard.
What happened in New Orleans was a bureaucratic, as much as it was a natural disaster…
And it wasn’t me that turned me into a “greedy old man”.
That was you.
And how in the world do you know either what I put into, or get out of, the system.
Sorry I disappointed you. Did you think I must have metamorphized into a liberal, because I actually showed some concern for someone?
How did you put it? I showed some “sense of humanity”? I guess that differentiated me from all the conservatives that have ever lived.
Is it just me or is frank totally gone? His posts grow more incoherent by the day.
They deserved it for not teaching Creationism. It’s GAWD’s punishment on the heathens.
EL, Frank’s only role here anymore is to post enflamable materials. Best not to provide him a spark.
enlightened liberal [talk about your oxymorons]: It’s just you.
Thanks, zadura, for reverting to character.
I was referencing, not plagirising. Not that that’s at all the issue, despite your wholesale concentration on it.
When you QUOTE someone without CITING, that is PLAGIARIZING.
And, in no way did I suggest either that Kansas got what they deserved or that the Federal Government shouldn’t be involved in helping them.
You could admit that you failed at trying to be clever, or you could just drop it, but don’t blame it on me.
I’d rather they were here in the states mowing my lawn…but what are you going to do?
What, you don’t have illegal Mexicans to do that for you out there in LA?
And how in the world do you know either what I put into, or get out of, the system.
Because you told us, Frank.
Duros: OK, so tell me.
What have I put into the system?
What do I get out of it?
What did I tell you?
What did you surmise?
And, incidentally (this is addressed to you and zadura) what does it have to do woth the topic at hand?
nihilistic_disintegration: I don’t have private health insurance. I’m on Medicaid. That’s how I know there’s no such thing as “free”, or even cheap, medicine.

I’m also eligible for health care at the VA Hospital. Would it bother you if I went there?
Oh,yeah… I don’t pay taxes.

Why am I not surprised that Frank is a welfare queen (pun not intended)?
LoL!!

“People, please just ignore him when he does this.”

“Because you start hurling insults and thread derailment right away. You do it all the time.”
Frank, back when I was a College Republican and drunk on David Stockman, we used to talk quite disparagingly about folks like you – late-in-life baby boomers whose appetite for government largess was going to imperil our ability to rule the world. I couldn’t wait to eliminate Social Security, Medicare and VA benefits. (There was no talk of privatization back then.) Let’s just say that I grew up and grew out of that.
Given what I know about your current state, Frank, I don’t expect you to be grateful for the checks that I send you, but I don’t expect you to be ungrateful either. You certainly don’t have a very credible platform to begrudge Kansans in their hour of need. It ain’t your contribution that is paying for it anyway.
zadura: I’m not on Social Security. I was not begrudging anyone any aid. I don’t even know where you got that idea.
You say:Frank, I agree. This is a reasonable use of U.S. Treasury dollars.
I say:With all the tornadoes they have in Kansas, there ought to be some mechanisms in place for clean up.
I mean, you can’t count on every tornado being declared a Federal disaster
You say:What the devil is wrong with you old man?
As for being “grateful for the checks you send me”, I know from the comments posted here, that you’re all a bunch of unprincipled, mean – spirited, churlish, selfish, brats, that wouldn’t pay a dime’s worth of taxes if you didn’t have to. It’s well known that conservatives make way more voluntary contributions than liberals.
And, squirrel, you’re a lying sack of shit, there were comments before, after, and in between that you are leaving out. You’re just a jerk.
benighted liberal: You would be surprised to discover that I’m a welfare queen, because I’m not on welfare.
So, have all you tolerant liberals had your fun? Don’t you feel proud? And you wonder why I have nothing but contempt for all of you.
Hypocrites.
Phonies.
Frauds.
And yet you spend most of your day among us. Isn’t it ironic, don’t ya’ think?
Actually, ironic is not the correct word.
But finding one man with integrity, and a modicum of good will, is becoming impossible.
And I will be busy soon, so perhaps, I could be shoving off.
But don’t break out the bubbly just yet.
Frank, if you think I am mean-spirited, you should see my friends from my I-banking and college republican days. They wanted to turn you into Soylent Green…
Frank will never leave, not completely. This site gives his life meaning.
Always nice to know someone is worse than you, if that’s how you judge yourself.
Guess you’re doing OK until Charles Manson and David Berkowitz die.
Frank, as long as there are greedy college republicans with (whom you make company,) there will always be people more bloodthirsty than me.
