Enthusiasm?
Amount of viewers for MSNBC Democratic Debate: 2,261,000
Amount of viewers for MSNBC Republican Debate: 1,762,000
Robert Cox of the right-wing Olbermannwatch decided to whip his readers up in a frenzy over what he said was negative coverage of the debate by MSNBC, but it’s clear to all that the Democratic presidential candidates have the wind to their backs, while the Republicans are clearly weighed down by the very unpopular sitting president.
But According to the new NEWSWEEK Poll, the public’s approval of Bush has sunk to 28 percent, an all-time low for this president in our poll, and a point lower than Gallup recorded for his father at Bush Sr.’s nadir. The last president to be this unpopular was Jimmy Carter who also scored a 28 percent approval in 1979. This remarkably low rating seems to be casting a dark shadow over the GOP’s chances for victory in ’08. The NEWSWEEK Poll finds each of the leading Democratic contenders beating the Republican frontrunners in head-to-head matchups.
The general election is, of course, over a year off but the president seems dead set on “staying the course” on his ill-considered and unpopular strategy of getting Americans killed in Iraq. That will win his party no support from Independents, Democrats, and the small but vital group of sane-minded Republicans left. Yesterday at a book convention in Annapolis, National Review’s Byron York predicted that in October the Republican candidates would begin moving away from Bush on the war. That remains to be seen, and I don’t see how they placate the party’s base and their fringe opinions. Just yesterday Rudy Giuliani said he saw Bush as a great president. America certainly does not agree with that assessment.
Oh, and in that Newsweek poll the best-polling Dem versus the GOP field is Sen. Obama.
“but it’s clear to all”?
You and Dick Morris would make great drinking buddies. It would be so easy to imagine the significance of those figures from ten other perspectives (for example, “Whose ’sense of participation’ extends to viewing of a debate”?)
You don’t think Democrats have momentum? I didn’t say that they’re going to win, but the party with momentum is not the one with the President with a 28% approval rating.
the funniest thing is that O’Reilly gets higher ratings than either of them, and the dems refused to let fox sponsor a debate!
Golly gee I can’t imagine why Democrats aren’t stupid enough to go on a network with Bill O’Reilly as its centerpiece.
Oliver, I really can’t imagine why it would make a difference. Do you really think Chris Matthews did a good job ob the Republican Debate?
Funny you would base this post on an obviously flawed poll.
Washington dudes:
What’s the best burger joint y’all would recommend? The poll figures are particularly delightful since the 28% mark matches Jimmy Carter’s worst. Watch Republic (yeah, that was deliberate) heads explode as they internalize that their Dear Leader is as popular as the Great Satan peanut farmer. Good times!
Actually, I thought Matthews did a great job with the Republican debate. He was about 3 times better than Wiliams was with the democratic debate.
As for having a democratic debate on Fox, it isn’t the questions or the moderator, it’s the graphics and the highly biased post-analysis. Imagine if during the Rpeublican debate on MSNBC, they posted graphics like, “McCain wants to continue President Bush’s policy of failure in IRaq.” THen have the post debate analysts flog that phrasing to death.
As for polls, Bush sucks in nearly every poll. Every Republican candidate will be running as a Bush republican and will have to deal with his drag and label.
there is no question pidge, that if the democrat party wants to win the WH they are going to have to control their message. And what better way to control your message than to only speak with the lapdog left wing media….
It’s kind of unamerican, but hey, when has that ever stopped a lefty!
What is unAmerican, Pedo, is a major news outlet totally biased and in league with a political party. America has a tradition of independent news sources and FOX NEws is not one of them.
Pedro lives entirely in his own little world, where he’s the God yet everyone’s always picking on him.
“And what better way to control your message than to only speak with the lapdog left wing media….”
Are you in a contest with Frank to say the stupidest thing on this blog? And is it a daily contest?
As I’ve pointed out in the past, the previous weapons inspector in Iraq stated that their WMD program was destroyed and they did not rebuild it. The only place I saw him interviewed was The Daily Show. If the media is the lapdog of the left, they sure acted strange during the Iraq war buildup.
No, actually it is perfectly consistent, since most of the left agreed that there were WMD’s (see clinton, gore, kerry, etc, etc…)
The media was simply getting behind their guys….
“The media was simply getting behind their guys….”
That was a pathetic rebuttal, even compared to your dismal average.
just ignore the assholes, they have no friends, their families are ashamed of them so they come here for attention.
right, dr pee?
their families are ashamed of them
merlallen, you are scum, unfit to drink his urine…
That must be a frank imposter, frank NEVER resorts to personal attacks.
CSS as usual makes a biting comment about the rebuttal, but makes absolutely no attempt to prove that my comment is wrong…why? All that merallen can come up with is a puerile personal attack…why?
Because my answer is completely correct, and is a smackdown of epic proportions that he and the other lefties simply don’t know how to respond to without looking ridiculous.
CSS has injected a “Tom Joad” element into the Blog: Whenever someone makes a comment against someone else, I will respond.
Besides, as mambochicken would say, I was merely making an observation. Merlallen is scum. Unflattering, perhaps; but apt.
Pedro: “Because my answer is completely correct, and is a smackdown of epic proportions that he and the other lefties simply don’t know how to respond to without looking ridiculous.”
Okay, first of all, Bwa ha ha ha ha ha ha ha!
Second of all, Wrong again, Pedro!
“most of the left agreed that there were WMD’s”
According to the official votes for the Authorization for Use of Military Force Against Iraq Resolution of 2002, 81 D’s in the House and 29D’s in the Senate voted in favor. That means there were a total of 110 D’s voting for the resolution. There were at that time 257 D’s in the two houses. That means that 147 D’s did not vote for the war.
Do the math, Pedro. 110/257 = 43%.
So how is it again that “most of the left agreed that there were WMD’s”?
Got any evidence to back up your argument? Didn’t think so. Hell of a smackdown, Pedro.
Epic.
Sorry,I forgot you were here ND…let me help straighten out your convoluted logic
Believing that he had WMD’s does not automatically require that you agree to go to war over them.
Senator Hillary Clinton > October 10, 2002
“In the four years since the inspectors left, intelligence reports show that Saddam Hussein has worked to rebuild his chemical and biological weapons stock. His missile delivery capability, his nuclear program. He has also given aid, comfort, and sanctuary to terrorists including Al-Qaeda members.
Joe Biden > August 4, 2002
“This is a guy who is an extreme danger to the world, and this is a guy who is in every way possible seeking weapons of mass destruction.”
Chuck Schumer > October 10, 2002
“It is Hussein’s vigorous pursuit of biological, chemical and nuclear weapons, and his present and future potential support for terrorist acts and organizations that make him a danger to the people of the united states.”
Bill Clinton > February 17, 1998
“If Saddam rejects peace, and we have to use force, our purpose is clear: We want to seriously diminish the threat posed by Iraq’s weapons of mass destruction program.”
Al Gore > September 23, 2002
“We know that he has stored nuclear supplies, secret supplies of biological and chemical weapons throughout his country.”
John Kerry > October 9, 2002
“I will be voting to give the president of the US the authority to use force if necessary to disarm Saddam because I believe that a deadly arsenal of weapons of mass destruction in his hands is a real and grave threat to our security.”
Ted Kennedy > September 27, 2002
“We have known for many years that Saddam Hussein is seeking and developing weapons of mass destruction.”
Madeline Albright > February 18, 2002
Iraq is a long way from (here), but what happens there matters a great deal here, for the risk that the leaders of a rogue state will use nuclear, chemical or biological weapons against us or our allies is the greatest national security threat we face — and it is a threat against which we must and will stand firm.”
Robert Byrd > October 3, 2002
“The last UN weapons inspectors left Iraq in October of ‘98. We are confident that Saddam Hussein retains some stockpiles of chemical and biological weapons and that he has since embarked on a crash course to build up his chemical and biological warfare capabilities.
Nancy Pelosi > October 10, 2002
“Yes, he has chemical weapons. Yes, he has biological weapons. He is trying to get nuclear weapons.”
John Kerry > January 31, 2003
“If you don’t believe…Saddam Hussein
is a threat with nuclear weapons, then
you shouldn’t vote for me.”
There now, why don’t you have a nice big glass of STFU and sit down…..
Great, Pedro. You picked 7 people in Congress. That’s only … let’s see … 3% of all Democrats in the 2 houses.
Bully for you. That’s obviously most of the left, just like you said. How could I ever hope to stand up against such an epic proportion of smackdown?
Not for nothing, but the quotes from Biden, Schumer, Albright and Kerry don’t even say that they believed he had WMDs. They simply say that if he had them, he would be a threat.
Also, is it really the Dems’ fault for believing the lies that the administration was feeding them? (Except for Edwards, who was on the Intelligence Committee, so he knew they were being lied to and still voted for the war.) I’d say that the Dems’ biggest error was believing for even a minute that the Bush regime wasn’t the most deceitful criminal group of warmongers ever to inhabit the Executive branch.
And I’ve never been a big fan of STFU, so I think I’ll pass.
hehehehehe……go lick your wounds…the glass of stfu would do you good too…..
“Because my answer is completely correct, and is a smackdown of epic proportions that he and the other lefties simply don’t know how to respond to without looking ridiculous.”
You comment is a paranoid fantasy, nothing more. You offered no proof, so there is nothing to argue against.
Throughout this entire thread, you have offered no proof.
I thought Robert Cox shut Olbermannwatch down?
Throughout this entire thread, you have offered no proof.
He almost never does. Why start now?
