Former Rep. Harold Ford knows how.
“There must be a lot of uncertainty on that Republican side, for a Hollywood actor who plays a New York prosecutor to be seriously thought of as presidential timber,” he said. “President Reagan was the governor of California, the leader of the conservative movement…The only real comparison is they were both actors.”
I have to wonder how Fred Thompson, who spent more time in the Senate than Barack Obama is not Presidential material, but Obama is.
Is Thompson shit-all stupid? Cause Reagan sure was. I’ve never seen anyone that shit-all stupid. He must’ve had manure for his brains.
See Oliver- Some are catching on to your talking points!
Mr. Ford needs to do a Wiki on Fred.
How is Fred Thompson Like Ronald Reagan?
I’ll tell you how.
He makes liberals think, “He could actually win”, and wet their pants.
I’m lovin’ it.
This is like 2000 and 2004.
I wasn’t thrilled with anyone, but I knew the Democrats were going to lose.
This election is about Iraq. And, yes, the average guy is tired of Iraq. But Americans don’t see themselves as “cut and runners”. That’s how the Democrats will be portrayed (whether they deserve it or not) after Independence Day 2008, when it counts.
I have to wonder how Fred Thompson, who spent more time in the Senate than Barack Obama is not Presidential material,
Well, if he had done anything more than warm the chairs, that “time spent” might actually have been worth something.
Quaker: When you stuff like that,it really makes me mad. I spent more time in Vietnam than John Kerry, and I was wounded.
I should be President
Whuh?
The average guy is not just “tired of Iraq”. The average guy is also becoming acutely aware of how he’s been played by Republicans in all sorts of ways over the past seveal years.
“He makes liberals think, “He could actually win”, and wet their pants.”
Not when the GOP get through with him. His campaign is already commenting about GOP operatives trying to dig up dirt on him.
He’s too far behind in the money and in the polls to matter. One scandal from his past, as he’s done.
I love what Bill Maher said of Thompson:(I am paraphrasing) *The republican are going to look for the charisma of Fred Thompson, old basset hound face? The Republican party has a love affair of all things Reagan to the point it is really gay. Reagan was an optimistic and care free guy and Thompson is the opposite. He sells fear.* Also Ronnie aka America’s Teddy Bear was no intellectual giant. The presidency is not meant for stupid and ignorant people because it is an EXTRAordinary job. You don’t have to be a genius but yet Cons LOVE them some stupid. Beind Stupid and Ignorant doesnt make you ‘an everyman’ it just makes you stupid and ignorant. I welcome Fred Thompson to join the race and don’t fear him in the slightest. He is the same mold as GWB which the American public hates. Republicans best hope is to nominate a moderate but that will never happen.
Reagan was dumb like a fox. He only made you see the big, goffy, jelly-bean lovin’ guy because that got him votes as an “average guy”. He actually had political savvy, if not actual knowledge.
As for Thomppson, I like the guy, but as for fd’s comment - what makes you think he would beat a democrat? All the polls I’ve seen have him losing to most of the frontrunners. The best situation for republicans is a Hillary-Gulianni matchup. If Obama is nominated, polls say he wins no matter who the Republicans put up. Check the Rasmussen polls.
His wife is younger than his kids. And the troll who claims to have been wounded in Vietnam is a fucking liar.
Why are the Democrats going to lose next year? They absolutely raped the Republicans last year! It would be a massive, probably unprecedented swing back to the right if the Republicans won. Have you never heard of the swingometer?
Frank, listen carefully: YOU LOST. In November of 2006, your side LOST. Like Bon Accord lost. Like the Washington Georges. You lost. Heavily. Your party and your ideology were flat-out rejected by America. You lost like Buckner and it doesn’t look like your boys are going to win again for a while. The sooner you admit that, the better.
NG: This isn’t Britain. We don’t vote parties in or out here.
You could be WRONG.
Even in CAPS.
hey, merlallen. Are you saying I don’t have a bayonet wound across my right thumb that I got in Vietnam.
Huh, punk?
If you’re such a fucking tough guy, why don’t you say my name?
Are you afraid of a 60 year old man?
Pussy!
I’m laughing at you right now.
“This isn’t Britain. We don’t vote parties in or out here.”
That has zero to do with anything, it’s just another slice of fudge to prevent tou from admitting that you’re not getting your own way.
Besides, of course you fucking do. If the party someone belonged to had no bearing whatsoever on whether or not someone voted for him or her, they wouldn’t run under a party banner at all. You have party politics, just like we do, only by a different method. More streamlined, and admittedly more focused on the individual politician. I prefer it, actually.
“You could be WRONG.”
Could be, but I’m not. It’s history now. Your boys lost and right now they look like losing again. The GOP candidate winning again next year isn’t out of the question, but it would take a big big swing to make it happen.
Incidentally, I’m sure you do have a bayonet wound on your thumb there, Flash, but since apparently several shards of shrapnel in the leg wasn’t good enough for John Kerry, I wouldn’t say it was much to crow about. Not without making you a hypocrite at least.
Quaker, that really doesn’t answer the question. Your crack about him “warming the seat” is your opinion.
Whenever Thompson’s name comes up, all I hear from Democrats are jokes about him being an actor and only being in the Senate for 8 years.
Yet Obama has spent what, all of three years in the US Senate? Yet, the same Democrats (like Oliver for instance) who scoff at Thompson, are going gaga over Obama.
So I will ask again: Why beyond the fact that Obama is a Democrat, is he more suited to be President than Fred Thompson?
It should be a relatively easy question to answer.
I never said it wasn’t, except I didn’t get an “early out” behind it, or use it to run for President.
And it wasn’t you that called me a liar. So what you think of it, “mox nix” to me.
Go ask Granddad what “mox nix” means…
Your party and your ideology were flat-out rejected by America.
Party, yeah. Ideology … not so much. The Dem pickups in 06 were by candidates who sold themselves as semi-conservative. The only one who voiced his full-throat support of liberalism was Senator Ned Lamont.
Heard that one before. It’s not particularly funny.
Mox Nix means Hakuna Matata, in case anyone other than Frank actually cares either way.
Jay - Barack Obama seems the more intelligent, perceptive and articulate of the two based on stuff they have written.
Better watch is merlallen. He’ll challenge you to a fight on a street corner somewhere. He may be 60 and stupid, but he’s wiry. Actually, not that either. If you’re a man merlallen, wear a dress, he likes that.
“Party, yeah. Ideology … not so much. The Dem pickups in 06 were by candidates who sold themselves as semi-conservative. The only one who voiced his full-throat support of liberalism was Senator Ned Lamont. ”
And extreme right heroes such as Rick Santorum and George Allen lost big. Yea conservatism!
He’s going to accuse you of being “S” now. Or one of “S”’s agents or something.
Santorum lost because Casey ran a brilliant campaign whose only slogan was “Hey everybody, look at my last name!!!”.
As for Allen, I think we can safely say it wasn’t his stance on conservative issues that cost him the vote.
Oh, and Nimrod: enough with your racism! You thought you could sneak that “articulate” crack through, didn’t ya?
Yea, you’re right farris. The conservative vote only was emboldened by Allen’s public display of racism. As for Santorum, if what you say is correct, what does it say for Santorum? After all Robert Menendez won soundly over a similar candidate in New Jersey. I’ll give you some time to leaf through your talking points.
Farris, you’re an idiot.

“I never said it wasn’t, except I didn’t get an “early out” behind it, or use it to run for President.”
LoL! Yer such a tough guy!!
I wonder why Thompson has not yet declared his candidacy?
I don’t think Thompson, who the Right seem to have settled on since “Oven” Mitt has not made any serious move to challenge Rudy or McCain, can mount a significant challenge to any Dem candidate.
As to Frank, I have no idea nor do I care in the least how much time he spent in the ‘Nam, but I know what John Kerry did there.
1. John Kerry ENLISTED in the US Navy in 1966, at a time when Bush was drinking it up in Houston and serving weekend tours as a gentleman flyboy, and Cheney was getting FIVE deferrals.
2. John Kerry served TWO tours of duty in Vietnam. Once as an Ensign aboard the missile Frigate “Gridley” in the China Sea and the Gulf of Tonkin supporting flat-tops, and another tour after 1968 when Lt.JG Kerry REQUESTED duty fighting on the Mekong Delta Swift Boats.
3. Kerry EARNED three Purple Hearts, a Bronze Star, and a Silver Star among other service badges and decorations. He was sent home because any SwiftBoat sailor who was wounded three times was sent home as official policy.
4. After he went home, he still continued his US Navy service as a Flag Lieutenant to an Admiral.
5. He was not released from Active Duty until 1970.
What was that again, Frank? You cut your thumb with a bayonet??
And to Farris, who claims that the reason Dems won in ‘06 is because they moved to the Right and put Conservatives in as candidates, please explain the many Democrats who won on Progressive, anti-war platforms.
IN addition, not a single Dem incumbent lost a seat, and we took control of governorships and legislatures across the country.
The reason Rethugs lost and will keep losing is simple:
They cannot govern.
The Dem pickups in 06 were by candidates who sold themselves as semi-conservative.
Following the November 7 midterm elections, Media Matters for America examined the policy positions of those Democratic House candidates who, as of the morning of November 8, had defeated Republican incumbents or been elected to open seats previously held by Republicans. This survey of the Democrats’ campaign websites, candidate questionnaires, and statements in news reports found that these incoming lawmakers agree on a set of issues central to the Democratic platform, including raising the minimum wage, changing course in Iraq, and protecting Social Security
Your crack about him “warming the seat” is your opinion.
Many share it. Maybe you could correct that opinion by citing Mr. Thompson’s accomplishments–just the significant ones will do, thanks.
I agree with Frank. He was right about invading Iraq in 2003, right about Dems losing in 2006 and he’ll be right about them losing again in 2008.
beans is an idiot.
Now agree with that.
I hear nimrod gently and “s” are going to see Aqua Teen Hunger Force. Have they called you yet?
What the FUCK is this ATHF obsession? It’s a great show and all but what’s the deal with constantly bringing it up?
Of course beans is an idiot. He agrees with Frank.
enlightened liberal: Have you joined the pester Frank entourage?
“Have you joined the pester Frank entourage?”
Have you sent him the invatation yet?
But seriously, this is an important point. You think there’s this group of people that are picking on you and they are in some way related. But the only connection is you. You say something stupid, we mock you for it, you think we are ganging up on you.
We don’t communicate outside this blog, (at least I don’t), we don’t organize our attacks, we don’t do anything as a team.
