Bush Goes AWOL (Again)

This time in Iraq.

“The President vetoed our troops and the American people,” says retired Maj. Gen. John Batiste. “His stubborn commitment to a failed strategy in Iraq is incomprehensible. He committed our great military to a failed strategy in violation of basic principles of war. His failure to mobilize the nation to defeat world wide Islamic extremism is tragic. We deserve more from our commander-in-chief and his administration.”

who wants to take bets on how long it will be before Batiste announces that he will be running for some office as a democrat?

    I say one year…

  2. Gravatar Icon 2 WhiteWhale

What a traitor, right Pedro? Why do these Generals always seem to be against GWB? Could it be that real leaders actually can smell out fraud of a president?

  3. Gravatar Icon 3 Duder

Yeah, why do all the smart military guys all run as Democrats?

  4. Gravatar Icon 4 SaveFarris

Because the Dem soldiers are the only ones that cut and run from the military. Republican soliders stay in and fight.

  5. Gravatar Icon 5 Rounds77

Farris, that was the most immature statement I’ve seen in a long time. Face it, this war is a GOP disaster that only the GOP thinks was the right thing to do. You guys are brainless.

What I’d like to know is why you lefties can’t find the Generals who want to kick ass and take names (but leave their pencils home), but you can always find the “ooh, ooh, let’s get out!” Generals?

Of course, you do usually find about one, maybe two. A General who’s tired of war, period? There ought to be a thousand of them, no?

A while back you found, what, five? You guys were salivating for days.

  7. Gravatar Icon 7 Rounds77

Are lefties looking for generals, or are they coming forward on their own accord?

Why can’t righties offer up a believable explanation as to why invading Iraq was a proper response to 9/11, making this a worthwhile effort on our so-called “war on terror?”

Y’all just keep supporting this ridiculous war; you’re actually doing the Democrats a huge favor.

Let’s agree that there are generals who believe in the Iraq effort–plenty of ‘em. My guess is they’d be hard to find because they don’t volunteer to speak up.

I know this is surprising, but people who generally agree with the way things are going tend not to make a lot of noise.

  9. Gravatar Icon 9 fd10801

Stop it, Rounds. Anybody can hear an explanation, and say, “Nope, that won’t do”. I’ve seen it here a thousand times. The last time I offered what I thought was a justification for the war, from the moment it began, until this very moment, you know what Oliver’s response was (I paraphrase)? “Yeah, ’til they change it next week”. In other words, he couldn’t say it was a bad idea, he couldn’t argue against it.

    And, that’s that.

Every time someone tries to explain why we need to stay there, you let John Cole or Josh Marshall or the execrable Jon Stewart or Bill Maher do your talking for you.

I read blogs every day, but I also read scholars, military men and diplomats, too.

Townhall, JWR, AEI, all have very smart people.

    For balance?

    You guys, of course…

The losers and quitters realize that as a military officer in the democratic party they can be a big fish in a small pond….just flash a couple of stars and toady your way up the democrat power structure!

Still no one willing to take my bet eh?

  11. Gravatar Icon 11 Quaker in a Basement

The losers and quitters realize that as a military officer

Nice. Remind me again: which party is it that “hates the military”?

  12. Gravatar Icon 12 Quaker in a Basement

And yes, I’ll accept your silly bet. What stakes?

Trust me, pedro, in one year Batiste may or may not be running as a dem but it’s guaranteed that no one, absolutely no one, running, whatever their political persuasion, will want to be associated in any way, shape or form with the policies and people of the Bush administration. Or do you not get the enormity of Batiste means when he says “failed strategy”?

Or do you not get the enormity of Batiste means when he says “failed strategy”?
Mr. Pipeline, The “enormity” is exactly -0-.

As a retired General, his opinion is as valuable as Mr. Whipple’s of Charmin fame.

why isn’t drpiss in the Army?
Why don’t the repubican scum who support this war enlist?
    cowards to a man.
and george bush is the biggest coward of them all.

  16. Gravatar Icon 16 fd10801

merlallen: All you’re saying is, “I’m not enlisting because I disagree with the war… You’re not enlisting because you’re a coward”.

Interestingly, your so - called reason is the most cowardly of all. I’ve already enlisted, and served my time. AND I went to a combat zone. Did you?

I enlisted online on SEP 12, 2001. Did you?

    I thought not.

    Shut. The. Fuck. Up.

  17. Gravatar Icon 17 Nimrod Gently

Enlisted for what exactly? If you’re 60 now, as you said, you’d have been 54 in 2001. I’m looking it up, but that seems quite advanced to enlist in the forces.

It’s probably just something I’m overlooking though.

  18. Gravatar Icon 18 fd10801

NG: It was a gesture. A gesture.

    Get it?

    Sheesh.

  19. Gravatar Icon 19 Nimrod Gently

No, actually. But I get the basic idea.

The problem with disagreeing with Bush or giving him news he doesnt want to hear is that you quickly decide you “Want to write a book and spend more time with family”.

This whole Iraq thing now has become a Bush hostage crisis, where he won’t do what needs to be done because the meanies will think he’s weak.

(And he doesn’t realize how weak that makes him look, but the grown-ups do.)

I love it. Every GOP COngressman but 2 voted to support George W Bush. They are going to PAY for that come ‘08.

It’s the duty of Nancy Pelosi and Reid to make sure that bill comes due, and it’s accurate. And to keep piling the charges on!!

    Mission Accomplished.

  21. Gravatar Icon 21 Duros62

you quickly decide you “Want to write a book and spend more time with family”.

Yeah, but that is usually followed up by an investigation of some sort.

  22. Gravatar Icon 22 Duros62

Mr. Pipeline, The “enormity” is exactly -0-.

As a retired General, his opinion is as valuable as Mr. Whipple’s of Charmin fame.

If he had said that everythings fine and the war is going great, what would the “enormity” be then?
As a retired general, who has a much better idea of what he’s talking about than you, I’d say his opinion is worth more than 2-ply absorbency.

  23. Gravatar Icon 23 Quaker in a Basement

As a retired General, his opinion is as valuable as Mr. Whipple’s of Charmin fame.

Yeah, Duros. What makes Batiste such an expert? It’s not like he commanded an infantry division in Iraq during this war or anything.

What’s that? He did command an infantry division in Iraq during this war?

    Well, nevermind.

  24. Gravatar Icon 24 Quaker in a Basement

And here I thought the commander guy was in favor of listening to the “commanders on the ground.”

    Silly me.

  25. Gravatar Icon 25 Duros62

Well, it is kind of hard to hear the commanders on the ground when you’re up in an ivory tower.

  26. Gravatar Icon 26 pedromd07

yea I was forward-deployed in the US Navy on sept 11, 2001, in my 8th year of active naval service….

Does that mean I’m a hero Merlallen?
