Flip Flopping Rudy Giuliani

Apparently in order to appease the far right wing fundamentalists who are the party bosses of the Republican party, Rudy Giuliani is now challenging Mitt Romney as chief flip flopper. He was for civil unions, now he’s against them.

Ah, principles.

yeah, I’m disappointed. I was seriously considering voting for the guy, but between this flipflop, and the flipflops on abortion and gun control, topped only by his fearmongering statement about the democrats and terrorists, and his failure to find a viable alternative to the current failed bush administration’s foreign policy in Iraq and elsewhere, his identical disrespect for diplomacy and ignorance about islam, etc., I’ve changed my mind. Very very disappointed, Rudy.

The whole issue of “flip-flopping” is actually rather silly to me. I am a manager and if my organization were to be tied to our first course of action, we’d be out of business. What we don’t back down on is our principles. This is something that Rudy doesn’t seem to understand.

  3. Big Ape says:

The whole flip-flopping accusation really has become one of the most tired and lazy-ass things to pull out, and frankly I think the American people are getting a bit tired of BOTH sides pulling it out and using it SO often, that it will actually (1) either start to backfire or (2) will only polarize and split the country more, thus moving us towards the inevitable Civil War II (which frankly, given how truly polarized we’ve become at this point, I’m still predicting to have fairly good odds of happening within the next 100 years in the U.S.)

Seriously, saying Rudy flip flopped on this or Romney on that can most certainly be done for any and all the Democratic candidates with the simple stroke of a keyboard and access to Google. EITHER side could play this game all day long ad nauseum to the average voter out there.

Basically my opinion on this is: “Wow, just think. Someone changed their mind or said one thing in one town, another thing in another. Gee, THERE’S a late breaking news flash and frankly something that pretty much 99.99999% of everyone who’s breathing has done in their life…

  4. Oliver says:

    Oh, now it’s tired. Heh.

  5. fd10801 says:

I understand what you’re driving at, Oliver, but in a while, the Democrats are going to have a candidate, and the Republicans are going to have a candidate, and then Big Ape’s prediction just might come true.

The immediacy of Internet news and 24 hour cable news are going to make it seem like politicians are “flip – flopping” all over the place: From urban areas to rural areas; from last year (in a primary) to this year (in a general election), whatever.

It could get old, and backfire, quickly.

  6. Mitt Report says:

Great Post! I am sharing it on the Mitt Report.

  7. Quaker in a Basement says:

My goodness,I don’t remember anyone (and by “anyone” I mean conservative blowhards–you know who you are) worrying so much about whether hollering “flip-flopper” was a good idea.

In fact, I seem to remember the term being used quite freely. I wonder what could have changed their minds?

Quaker: If you have any respect at all for the English language, you don’t want to see a word go into the trash can from over use.

If you have any respect for political discourse, you don’t want to see a word become the “so” of 2007.

C’mon, every time a politician (a Republican / conservative, of course — Democratic / liberals are exempt, of course) changes their view, we’re going to say they “flip – flopped”?

What next, “The ‘flip – flop’ Police”?

  9. Duros62 says:

What, is that shoe on the other foot a little tight?

  10. Yeah, exactly. All of a sudden it’s not sporting to have done to you what you did to others. Democrats are always supposed to play with one hand tied behind our backs.

    Haw!!

You mean like “tax-and-spend”? Or “Defeatocrats”? Or “cut-and-run”?

Now all of a sudden we’re supposed to be concerned about wearing out a word??!?

Ha! Ha! Your kung fu is weak!

  12. Adam Herman says:

Whoa, that’s a serious flip-flop. And a real one too, not the made up ones I keep hearing about McCain. I’m giving my support back to McCain or Obama or Richardson now.
