Democrats United: David Broder Is An Ass
Tweet
It isn’t often where 50 U.S. Senators smack down a major newspaper columnist. Senate Dems bring the pain to David Broder:
We, the members of the Senate Democratic Caucus, contest the attack on Sen. Harry Reid’s leadership by David S. Broder in his April 26 column, “The Democrats’ Gonzales.”
In contrast to Mr. Broder’s insinuations, we believe Mr. Reid is an extraordinary leader who has effectively guided the new Democratic majority through these first few months with skill and aplomb.
The Democratic caucus is diverse, and Mr. Reid has worked tirelessly to make sure that the views of each member are heard and represented. No one ideology dominates the caucus, so that a consensus can be reached and unity achieved. It is hard to imagine a better model for leadership.

(and yes, even Joe Lieberman signed the letter and good on him for that, now if he could just stop being an apologist for policies that kill thousands of Americans maybe we can get somewhere)

Is this another case of the Democrats “swelling with pride” as they intimidate a reporter?
I’m lovin’ it!
Is this another case of the Democrats “swelling with pride” as they intimidate a reporter?
No its a case of refuting the central charge (that Dems in general are ready to ask Reid to step down)in a misguided article by someone who clearly needs to pack his bags and head for Florida with the other Septuagenarians
The Democrats need to thicken that skin of theirs. This is a silly overblown reaction to one little article.
How many times are they going to do this over the next few years?
A silly overblown reaction to one little article which is going to be quoted and repeated on the news and pundit shows as “evidence” that the Democrats are disunited and that Reid is a crazy crank.
As to how many times they’re gonna do this over the next few years?
As often as necessary.
Rheinhard: Do you honestly think this work for the Democrats?
Admittedly, “dumping” on the accuser worked well for the Clintons (1992 – 2000), but will it work for the Democrats between now and 2008?
Pretty soon, the President and perhaps Republicans in general are going to come off as victims, and the Democrats as abusers of power (which I believe they are, any way) in the mind of “Joe Six Pack”.
And he’s who matters.
retty soon, the President and perhaps Republicans in general are going to come off as victims
Aww, boo hoo. Poor baby.
Do you honestly think this work for the Democrats?
It works a whole lot better than saying nothing and rolling over, waiting for someone to rub their bellies.
And you say Dems need a thicker skin.
Duros: Do you think I care if the Democrats come off as bullies that hector the Press, every time they’re criticized?
I’m lovin’ it.
I guess you misunderstood me — nothing new around here.
It would be GOOD for the Republicans to be characterized as set upon, as victims.
Unlike the creatures that inhabit this blog, most Americans abhor bullies, and like to back the underdog. They don’t like to see politicians gang up on reporters for writing critical commentary.
And, of course, I don’t ever remember saying that Democrats need a thicker skin (I’m sure you’ll run off now and find some comment that sounds like that).
I’d like to think most Americans care about things like context and nuance as well.
Duros is simply confusing you with Jay, by the way, so keep what hair you have on. Since you’re both reading from the same talking points it’s an easy mistake to make.
NG: Are you Duros’ attorney?
