Update at 11:09 a.m. ET: Pelosi’s office just called to tell us that the speaker had a 30-minute phone conversation with Petraeus during which the general offered a detailed assessment of the situation in Iraq.

Spokesman Nadeam Elshami said the conversation was similar to the classified assessment that the Iraq commander plans to give lawmakers later today. He said he didn’t know why Pelosi was unable to attend the bipartisan briefing.

Meet personally with Assad? Check. Meet personally with Petraeus? Not so much.

“Similar” to the classified assessment given to other lawmakers? I hope that Nancy was able to arrange this chat on a secure (i.e. encrypted) phone line, otherwise I seriously doubt that Petraeus would have shared ANY classified info with her on an unsecured line.
