MSNBC tries out an Imus replacement… conservative Michael Smerconish. Did they even consider a progressive for two seconds? I doubt it.
Did they even consider a progressive for two seconds?
The ratings for that period will probably suffer, as it is.
They’d do better with an “Indian Head” test pattern than some dour progressive who bashes Pres. Bush for a few hours.
Of course, if they hired you, they’d have a bubbly, effervescent progressive who bashes Pres. Bush for a few hours.
How about her face for a Test Pattern?
Because MSNBC doesn’t have enough liberal voices as it is …
Where is your outrage over Olbermann big boy?
“Because MSNBC doesn’t have enough liberal voices as it is …”
No, no they do not have enough liberal voices. The media as a whole is tilted far to the right, so a network that is only leaning slightly right looks liberal in comparison.
“Where is your outrage over Olbermann big boy?”
Why should we be outraged by Olbermann? What has he done to deserve outrage?
“What has he done to deserve outrage?”
Ask the ADL.
ADL?
Asshole Defense League?
Well, yes, I imagine Keith’s reportage is annoying a lot of right-wing assholes, so I’m not too surprised they’d get their defense team on his case.
Ask the ADL.
The ADL isn’t outraged. They’re deeply dismayed.
They have Olbermann.
Olbermann and… nobody else.
Yay, libs, you got thrown a bone, ain’t you happy?!
I am from Philly so I get to Smerconish from time to time.
He is simply put a pre 2007 Rudy Guiliani Republican.
He’s one of those fence sitters..
He is:
Pro-torture and Pro-Choice
He believes in Global Warming and Racial profiling of terrorists
He is pro-gay marriage and pro-gun
Basically he is a right of center commentator who one day pisses you off the next day you may agree with him.
Still no reason that MSNBC couldnt have hired a left of center host like Ed Schultz.
Here is Smerconish’s first column in the Inquirer when he got a weekly gig there as the RW editorial writer where he explains his views.
Smerconish First Column in Inquirer
The ADL??????
Would you care to enlighten us wonder boy…….
Me: What has he done to deserve outrage?
Dugger: Ask the ADL.
Care to elaborate?
Lib, CS:
Google!
Ah, yes, the ADL’s “you can’t talk about Hitler and the Nazis because the Jewish community owns that subject.”
I can only assume that the ADL is also actively trying to remove comedies like “Top Secret” and “The Producers” from Blockbuster and retail outlets, too. What about “Hogan’s Heroes?” Are they pushing to stop re-runs of that show? I’m sure there are plenty of other examples, but the point is simply this, in no way is Olbermann trivializing the Holocaust by calling out Bill O’Reilly as an authoritarian and fascist wannabe. Olbermann’s message is anything but funny. He’s essentially making it clear that he feels O’Reilly (and by extension, much of Fox, no doubt) would happily slip into the black leather boots and brown shirts if the opportunity arose.
Perhaps the ADL should stop to consider that without the sacrifices of so many over the past 200 years, we wouldn’t have had the safeguards in place to slow down the xenophobic, jingoistic, authoritarian thugs at Fox and in the White House and we’d be looking at the Nazis part Deux right now.
But then again, the ADL was quick to jump down Carter’s throat for having the temerity to question Israel’s actions regarding the Palestineans, so expecting them not to side with Fox and the Cons is, no doubt, pure fantasy.
Then, of course, there’s this.
By the way, Frank, I’m throwing down a red flag on the play.
“Illegal use of distracting hotness.”
hamana hamana hamana
What were we talking about…?
bill l. And I’m changing the test pattern — I see two items of great interest…

Those cheekbones!
“Lib, CS:
Google!”
So Bill O’Reilly accusing American troops of committing war crimes that Nazis did and Olbermann points this out while using the Nazi salute.
…
And the ADL are offended by Olbermann.
Like I said, what has Olbermann done to be outraged about?
I’m happy to leave the cable news and AM radio gasbag positions to the wingnuts.
They’re getting to be seen more and more as a freak show that nobody takes seriously any more, apart from the dead-end 29 percenters who have the time to spend their days glued to the radio or the TV set.
You can tell how bad it’s getting for them by all the hysterical paranoid screeds at MMFA and others who have the audacity to document their bullsh*t.
Joe Scarborough is barely a conservative, same with Tucker. Scar does a lot — A LOT of anti-Bush segments. Tucker holds a lot of liberal positions .. so please don’t call him a conservative. Oh, and Chris Matthews. No explanation needed due to his career record.
Re: C.S.Strowbridge ..
Olbermann accused Bush for being responsible for the VTech massacre because he didn’t renew a gunban law (one that was slated to end in 2004 anyways, also at the time, Olbermann was incorrect about the magazine (which he called a “clip” .. two totally different things) being banned.
Several days later .. he gives John Derbyshire “worse” in the world for blaming the students for letting VTech happen.
Hypocrite much?
Once again, Ian has no idea what he’s talking about.
I’ve heard perhaps a dozen talking heads in the last week refer to the magazines as “clips” so don’t single out one commentator. Sure it’s incorrect, but we all know what they mean, right?
Right?
“Scar does a lot — A LOT of anti-Bush segments.”
All youhave to do is criticize George Bush and suddenly you’re “barely a conservative.” Nice to know you guys aren’t turning into some kind of messianic cult or anything …
What makes you think that Scarborough isn’t conservative? I know it was just 420 yesterday, but what are smoking????
frameone, I welcome debate — obviously it is you, and your liberal friends, who can not stand an opposing voice, hence this OUTRAGE over Michael.
Joe Scarborough is so non-conservative he was elected to the House as a conservative Republican. Just because he thinks Bush is a failure/joke doesn’t mean the guy’s not a con. In fact, he’s a rarity: an honest conservative.
” Nice to know you guys aren’t turning into some kind of messianic cult or anything …”
Yes, but unlike other messianic cults people like Ian have no intention of throwing their life down for their leader (Iraq).
wow. all caps, ian, i guess that must mean everyone is calling for the end of the first amendenment …
Frameone as usual, doesn’t respond to anything I say, but rather attacks me.
Oliver — fine, lets say Joe Scar is a conservative. So what .. that is one, only one REAL conservative voice on the network.
Except for Pat Buchanan, Tucker Carlson, Norah O’Donnell… Not to mention that Chris Matthews brother ran as the GOP candidate for PA Lt. Governor. Yep, its JUST like the Nation over there.
Not to mention that Chris Matthews’ brother ran as the GOP candidate for PA Lt. Governor
His brother ran as a Republican?
What in the H – E – double – hockey sticks is that supposed to mean?
What, is conservatism herditary? Or contagious?
You got me ROF’ing on the floor, and LOL’ing out loud…
ANother qulaity decision by MSNBC, like CNN and Beck.
These cabe news outlets are DESPERATE for vieweers, and FOX has shown wingnuts to be particularly faithful viewers.
I watched the show a bit this morning, and Smerconish was just plain awful
Not quite Glenn Beck awful, but nowhere near a good Imus show.
Not gonna be there long, I don’t think.
I would MUCH rather watch Washington Journal or even Becky on that financial show than Smerconish.
Totally incoherent.
Tucker Carlson is not a conservative. We have gone through numerous times. You left-wingers like to think of conservatives as gay haters, and never-ending apologists of the Iraq war. Well Tucker Carlson is NOT against gay marriage and he is very much against the war in Iraq.
He is most certainly not a conservative.
And so what if Chris Matthews’ brother is a Republican? Wasn’t Matthews Tip O’Neill’s chief of staff or speech writer or something?
Yea, Tucker Carlson’s not a conservative, that’s why he is on the masthead of The Standard as a contributing editor.

Ian, are you really this fucking stupid or are you parodying other conservative posters?
Maybe you should go back to Hot air blog and talk to you cohorts about how much you want to sniff Maglalang’s panties.
Ian,
So basically, you admit that you have a litmus test for anyone who doesn’t agree with you 100%?
