I think the most telling part of who exactly The Corner is written for is Podhoretz’s update: “From my e-mails, I gather people have a strange idea of what went on during Cho’s spree — that the victims were simply standing around waiting to be shot.”
Pardon my French, but this is just god damned ridiculous. Who is spending the time to e-mail angrily to Podhoretz that the Virginia Tech students were just sitting around, waiting to be shot?? Without having been there, without knowing the full story, the Corner readers seemingly without sympathy ARE BLAMING THE VICTIMS. If I were Podhoretz, who seemingly has a soul for once, I would seriously question what the hell I was doing writing for such disgusting people.
An honest reading of Derbyshire’s posts, as well as reactions from many others, would reveal that much of the immediate commentary was based on inaccurate information, specifically the tale (which proved to be completely false) that Cho made students line up along a wall and then shot them execution-style.
Unfortunately, honest readings of conservative writers are in very short supply around these parts.
So Derb writes a post based on inaccurate information, and in an “honest reading” of his post we’re supposed to assume that Derb has no idea what the hell he’s talking about? Hmm, I like the logic, Mike.
Inaccurate information or not. There’s no excuse for suggesting that those killed simply didn’t love their own lives as much as Mr. Derbyshire loves his.
And, by the way, Mr. Limbaugh was distributing the same taffy during his program yesterday.
Hey Quaker, is there an excuse for saying the NRA and the gun industry are complicit in the murders?
I wouldn’t know, Jay. What does that have to do with me?
