Video: LAPD Police Brutality?

5:02 pm EST April 18th, 2007 | Politics | 17 Comments

The person who posted the video said: “The man in the white shirt on the left walks towards police and is clubbed. Others are also clubbed, and a person in wheelchair is knocked over. Screams of “he’s mentally retarded” can be heard. An officer on a bike deliberately smashes into two people taping the incident. Other cops club them, even after they’re on the ground. After several seconds of them not moving, a cop clubs them again and is pushed back by another cop.”

Soooo…cops get to go apesh*t amidst a crowd of unarmed people on a busy street, attack bystanders (with a bike) who are recording it…and then, beat said bystanders amongst other random people on the street?

I wish I were shocked by that video. But I’m not. Not even a little bit. It’s been par for the course here in NYC since Giuliani, and especially since his frog-faced follow-up Bloomberg took over. Especially during the GOP convention here.

Par for the course, America. Par for the course. And that’s sad.

  2. pedromd07 says:

    boy ollie, I smell desperation…

Cops in riot gear, man struggling, someone on bike getting in their faces…

Ollie is careful not to make any statements, just a wonderful video and “questions swirl”…

    Hypocrite

  3. Oliver says:

I’m “hypocritical” for linking to something and wanting to know more about it?

  4. WhiteWhale says:

    Pedro,
You are truly dense. “Questions swirl”, what like your vieled attack of him being a hypocrite? Care to explain? I would like to know more about the incident. Was the man truly mentally retarded? Did he resist arrest? Why did it take 5 plus cops to club an unarmed man? Stop being a pussy and just say that if you are against police brutality you are a liberal wuss who hates America. LA cops can certianly be put under duress considering the cities history, but police officers are not outlaws who are immune from criticism or censor.

  5. Oliver says:

The funny thing is, you will rarely find anyone as pro-cop as myself, which is why bad cops drive me nuts and I’d like to know what the heck is going on here.

  6. Quaker in a Basement says:

It’s pretty plain that bad stuff was already happening before the beating. The officers had their face shields down and their clubs ready.

  7. pedromd07 says:

yea Ollie, you are pro-cop like you are “pro” military….with friends like you who needs enemies?

And yea, you go straight to the “questions swirl” routine that you are always bitching about like a true hypocrite.

  8. skeeter says:

Why *wouldn’t* you want to know the facts behind this incident Pedro?

  9. Oliver says:

So if someone supports something, one should never point out its faults? That’s no way to run a society. The only way to fix something is to point out problems and have them addressed. This applies to countries, families, militaries, political parties, etc. The idea that one supports the troops by ignoring wrongs is defacto support of those wrongs. You would thinl someone who’s a doctor or pretending to be a doctor could understand a basic human concept like that.

  10. pedromd07 says:

I would like to know….and because I would like to know, I wouldn’t publish a snippet of film with the inflammatory commentary that ollie did…because you see, Ollie couldn’t care less.

He was looking to rabble-rouse and keep up his site stats..and hey, if he has to go to the “questions swirl” route that he is always bemoaning, well, that is just the cost of fame.

  11. Yes, we should just pretend. I swear, talking to you, conversing with you, even in this limited digital form, is like talking to a bag of rocks.

Only, a bag of rocks would have more insight.

  12. merlallen says:

why does that pedro person even read this blog? just to be an asshole?
or is he so desperately lonely that he comes for the attention? I can imagine he must be friendless.

  13. pedromd07 says:

    How about this ollie,

I publish the same clip but with an inflammatory line about leftwing agitators attempting to kill cops and being taken down….

Think that would change anyone’s mind here about whether or not the “questions swirl” agenda was ok or not?

This bag of rocks wants to know…..

  14. soullite says:

If you think should ever act like this, do us all a favor and shoot yourself in the head. You’re scum, and you’re part of what makes this world as bad as it is.

You won’t get peace through these actions. You’ll get massive and unending violence. This is why crime is so high, not because of “troublemakers”, but because nobody has any respect for the police. Why should they, I can’t remember the last time I met a cop who deserved respect instead of fear.

  15. Dr. Squid says:

Peteykins, you do know what the word ‘hypocrite’ means.

The way you use it, it seems to mean, “anyone who is not a holder a conservative beliefs like those of us people with good conservative credentials, who are the only kind of people that can be good, and have I mentioned that I have conservative credentials.”

  16. Joshua Gaines says:

To answer your question Pedro, if you posted the same clip with an argument about how leftwing agitators attempted to kill cops, you’d look incredibly moronic.

Even you have to admit that the clubbings looked unnecessary. I’m not saying that they weren’t indicated by the situation, just that the video certainly makes it look that way. Oliver said that the video looks disturbing, and he wants to know if what it looks like is an accurate representation of what it actually is.

  17. bill l. says:

This site has more on this video.

Apparently it was a counter protest against the Minute Men by some members of ANSWER.

It also appears that charges against at least one individual have been dropped and administrative charges are being filed against the officers involved (not criminal charges, naturally).

    And for the wingers…

    Wrong.
