This picture is from the package he sent to NBC:

Sometime after he killed two people in a Virginia university dormitory but before he slaughtered 30 more in a classroom building Monday morning, Cho Seung-Hui mailed NBC News a rambling communication and videos about his grievances, the network said Wednesday.

Cho, 23, a senior English major at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, killed 32 people in two attacks before taking his own life.

Silly liberals. The trouble is he didn’t have enough guns. If he’d had a couple more pistols, three or four AK47′s and a rocket launcher or two, he really would have been slowed down by the weight. Much easier to catch that way.

All college students should immediately be issued with a minimum of twelve guns (hollow point bullets, of course). Those with a history of depression or other mental illneses should be given twice that number.

    It’s the American Way.

I figure his 15 minutes are up. This is just validation.

This link was broken in a previous comment I made.

It is a link to a column by John McWhorter, where he characterized the shootings as “copycat”, because Cho was doing more than taking out his anger on innocent students; he was looking for a nationwide platform.

    He was exactly right.

    The Media Is The Message

  4. Oliver says:

And all he had to do was go to the store and buy a gun to fulfill his “message”.

  5. Jay says:

And all he had to do was go to the store and buy a gun to fulfill his “message”.

And if he couldn’t buy a gun, he would have figured out another way to cause as much death as he could. A bomb perhaps. But I doubt you’d be blubbering about the fertilizer industry if that was the case.

Why aren’t you directing your ire at the court and psychiatric system in Virginia that apparently found that this guy was a danger to others yet let him walk away free as a bird?

Because intellectual laziness affects your mind, that’s why.

  6. frameone says:

    “A bomb perhaps.”

If all the other students and teachers had bombs this never would have happened.

  7. fd10801 says:

Jay: It’s because of Tarasoff vs. Board of Regents’ of CA (where else?)
If the danger isn’t imminent, the counselor isn’t required to tell the authorities.

I suggested in another thread that all the teachers of young people must be alerted to the “red flags” of potential “danger to self or others” (bullying, suicide, homicide and fire starting), as they are to the signs of abuse.

Then they should made mandated reporters.

This way, therapists can remain blissfully ignorant of their obligation to the community.

Why is that picture so familiar?
    {Serious question}

  9. Jay says:

Frank, when I read the story I thought it said that the box that said he was an imminent danger to others was checked, but I read it incorrectly.

If all the other students and teachers had bombs this never would have happened.

Oh you are just SO witty. Har har har har.

  10. Mike says:

    Jay,

You’re right. As a citizen of Oklahoma City, I am still waiting for the government to ban the sale of ammonium nitrate fertilizer.

  11. Mike says:

And again, let’s not forget that last year psychos went on SUV rampages at UNC and in San Francisco. If a psycho wants to kill, no there is no “law” that can stop him.

  12. I don’t know what rampages you’re referring to but I’m pretty darn sure more school kids have been shot up than victims of “SUV rampages”.

  13. Gravypan says:

    Oliver,

    It’s called Google.

RALEIGH — The tragic shootings at Virginia Tech bring to mind past incidents of campus violence in the Triangle area.

In March 2006, Mohammed Taheri-Azar was charged for driving an SUV through the University of North Carolina campus, striking and injuring nine students.

Taheri-Azar said he was avenging the treatment of Muslims worldwide. He is currently undergoing a mental evaluation at Dorothea Dix.

Clearly, all SUV’s should be outlawed. For if the steering wheel of one falls into the wrong hands, it could be used as a deadly weapon.

  14. Quaker in a Basement says:

Mr. ‘Pan, if the choices are 1) ban SUVs, or 2) turn the streets into an ongoing demolition derby, I’ll take 1).

  15. For the 10,000th time, SUVs are not designed to kill. Guns are.

I am still waiting for the government to ban the sale of ammonium nitrate fertilizer
I seem to remember President Clinton trying to get taggants included in things like fertilizer but the NRA vetoed it.

  16. michael says:

    “striking and injuring nine students”

My math’s fuzzy; is that better or worse than 32 dead?

And thanks to the media for broadcasting so much of this kid’s ranting. Now every twisted mind out there knows for sure that whatever they have to say, they’ll get their message out on TV if the body count is high enough.

  17. fd10801 says:

Frank, when I read the story I thought it said that the box that said he was an imminent danger to others was checked, but I read it incorrectly.
The standardized assessment form for the Court had such a box,and it was checked “danger to himself or others”.
The Judge disregarded that (so what’s new), and because of that his admission to the hospital was voluntary, and thus, not a disqualifier for a gun sale. Of course, it also kept him from the Counseling / medication that might have salvaged his life, as well the lives of 32 others.
There is a pending solution in the works {PDF}.

“For the 10,000th time, SUVs are not designed to kill. Guns are.”

Then I’m gonna write Remington and Colt this morning, Oliver. I’ve got firearms that have been in my family for generations that haven’t killed a single thing since they rolled off the assembly line.

    They must be defecitve!

You’re an overly-emotional idiot who has taken the gun-bigot propaganda, hook, line and sinker. It is sad that you believe the same lies that kept people from voting out of office the racists who started the gun-control debate in the 1870′s.

Btw, my SUV in 10 years has killed 3 oppossums, 2 birds and a one very low-flying owl.
