His response was firm in regards to Imus' comments, that they should not be tolerated, but he tap danced around the question of whether Imus should be fired. His "second chances" and "redemption" rhetoric speak to his Christian values (and those of many moderate conservatives and liberals he no doubt seeks to court), but ultimately he is simply speaking of his general philosophy and sidestepping the question. It's tough to get a solid "yes" or "no" from any politician, much less one running for President. If you recall, this is virtually the same tack he used when dealing with the blogger debacle. While Edwards hasn't commented on Imus being fired, he did say beforehand that he didn't think he should be fired. That's not even remotely the same as coming forward after the fact and saying that NBC was wrong to can Imus. Edwards also said that, unlike McCain or Giulani, he wasn't prepared to make more appearances on Imus' (former) show just yet. Actually, Jay, that’s not true.
