Speaking Of Black Voters…

I can’t, for the life of me, figure out why black voters don’t vote Republican.

Democratic National Committee Chairman Howard Dean today demanded an end to Republican efforts to play politics with voting rights after two recent New York Times reports outlined a persistent campaign by Bush Administration officials to undermine fundamental voting rights for countless Americans. Dean’s comments come as recent reports have highlighted a five-year political campaign by Bush Republicans in the Justice Department, the Election Assistance Commission (EAC) and the White House to trump up charges of voter fraud in order to pursue restrictive voter ID laws that disproportionately disenfranchise minority, senior, student and disabled voters.

Doublespeak for “we want illegal aliens, the dead, and under age children to be able to vote.”

    Uh… how?

As in how do any of these people cash their paychecks (or social security checks, or student loan checks, or disability checks, etc.) without an I.D.

Wow- and it’s from a press release by Howard Dean and Democrats.org. Well that doesn’t have any bias. Just the facts with no spin at all. Oh- wait- didn’t those same New York Times articles acknowledge genuine cases of voter fraud, Mr. Dean? Is that not important to you? Doesn’t every case of voter fraud disenfranchise a genuine voter?

When did the right get so damn lazy? The fact that the source is the New York Times does not disqualify the evidence. There is essentially no evidence of voter fraud in spite of Republican efforts to find it. There is clear evidence of lower voting turnouts with voter ID laws, particularly among historically Democratic voters. There is inconclusive evidence of voter suppression efforts because Bush and DOJ don’t make an effort to pursue them. These are the facts. Deal with the facts and the taint it leaves on Republicans and GWB, not the messenger.

Since the Democrats are experts at filling buses with illegal aliens, the homeless, convicted felons, etc. and then herding them into polling places and telling them who to vote for, it certainly seems reasonable that requiring an ID and proper voter registration would greatly hamper these efforts, thus lowering the Democrat voter turnout. Why is this a surprise to anyone?

On the other hand, just think of all the effort that MoveOn.org and their minions wasted trying to cook up those goofy Diebold voter fraud conspiracy theories. It was all a lie. There is no widespread voter fraud. Again, why should anyone be surprised?

(PS – I’m keeping that NYT article handy for the next time the Dems lose a national election.)

William, actually this whole thing is doublespeak for “We didn’t want to look like complete asses after our previous allegations of voter fraud mysteriously vanished when we won big in the last election.

If I may borrow a line from Kevin Meany: Asking voters for ID — That’s not right!

Hold on. Just.. hold on. What the fuck are you talking about? Every American citizen should have the right to vote. The only thing that should be required here is proper registration. If you are in the country illegally (and you know it), you can’t vote.
