Good.
Next up…Rosie.
hA-Ha!
Oh- Let me rephrase.
Next up… Rosie. Ching Chong.
It only took a week for the CBS brass to decide if they had any standards.
Sadly, that’s an improvement.
I don’t know how nutty conspiracy theories parallel racial epithets, but go for it I guess.
Truly sickening that corporate America is so afraid of Jesse “Hymie Town” Jackson and Al “Tawana Brawley” Sharpton.
Teaches a lesson though. For any public figure who screws up there is no longer any point in apologizing, because it doesn’t matter. As a society we have always said about fallen public figures that if he/she had only come clean or apologized, etc., people would be forgiving, etc. That is no longer the case.
I imagine Imus will have his Sirius deal within a week or two (Mel Karmizan, guru to Imus and Howard Stern, heads Sirius).
And lastly, the ultimate irony, while Jackson and Sharpton were running around like rabid animals trying to get Imus fired, Imus was raising money for sick cancer.
Should have said, “Imus was raising money for sick children, including those with cancer.”
Dear Righties,
Before you weigh in telling us that Imus’ free speech is being stifled, please review your own remarks re: The Dixie Chicks.
NOOOO!!! Did they not read Michelle Malkin? The real villains in this tragic tale are liberals like Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson! What’s going to happen to our rich tradition of racism on the AM dial now? Even Michael Savage and Glenn Beck — AND EVEN RUSH LIMBAUGH!! — might actually have to abide by basic standards of non-racism! And where will these old white conservative cranks get their comedy material, if not our rich history of racial violence and oppression?
We are officially living in a world where it no racism is safe!!
The horror! The horror!
Quaker: No one “fired” the Dixie Chicks”, they just stopped buying their CD’s — an appropriate response.
The “Chicks” sealed their fate when they declared that they no longer cared if they had a Country audience — probably the worst instance of sour grapes in the 21st Century.
One good thing about Imus’ being fired from both positions: There will no foolish talk about wrist slaps.
Quaker, the Dixie Chicks comparison is not valid. No one was arguing that their record label should fire them, simply that music be boycotted. The Imus equivalent would be that if you don’t like Imus, don’t listen or don’t watch. Instead, the Jackson/Sharpton dynamic duo advocated that he be fired.
Ironically, Imus was a supporter of the Dixie Chicks.
I watched Robert Johnson who ran BET wiggle and squirm when pressed about black comedians and hip-hop/rap artists on BET saying even worse things than Imus and not being penalized. Johnson said that he talked to the producers in the industry and told them that if they changed he would welcome that. What bullshit. He was making huge money off the same crap as Imus and he could have pulled the plug on those people since he ran the network. What a hypocrite and a lousy sports franchise owner. I think Imus was lousy and has a history of these kinds of statements but where does this end folks. We already have conservatives demanding people be taken off the air for condemning torture and war crimes by the government and the troops. We are on a slippery slope and Sharpton and Jackson want a lot more grease and more speed. I guess we can’t have Richard Pryor played publicly anymore.
Next up…Rosie.
For what exactly???…expound for me..
also
I am not a Jesse Jackson or Al Sharpton fan but if Jesse Jackson went on the radio and almost everyday denigrated Jews by calling them “hymies” over the span a 20+ year radio career then it would be the same thing as Don Imus….its imus’ bigoted body of work that got him in trouble not one isolated incident…got that CONS ….
Dont worry your boy will find a home on satellite radio where he can be as bigoted (oops I mean express his “free speech”) as you CONS want him to be….
Now if we could just keep Sharpton and his hate mongering off the air.
Almost every day? Please. All that has been brought up are a handful of comments.
And if Jesse did denigrate Jews “almost every day” but raised $50 million for sick children and profusely apologized, I would probably cut him some slack.

“The “Chicks” sealed their fate when they declared that they no longer cared if they had a Country audience — probably the worst instance of sour grapes in the 21st Century.”
Riiight, Frank. The 5 Grammies they won this year sure showed them!!
Hedly, fd, 3 words:
Clear Channel Radio.
This incessant need by Cons to try and hold hip-hop up as an equivalent to Imus’ comments is a ridiculous diversion and waste of time.
What I want to know is why FNC, Michelle Malkin, Rush, Sean Hannity havent organized boycotts of the very COMPANIES that distribute and promote these hip hop artists.
They include
Universal Music Group
EMI
BMG
Warner Music Group
Sony Music
Viacom (MTV, BET, CMT)
Without funding and support these offending artists wouldnt have a shot of getting their voices heard correct. I am sure Repub leaders will put major pressure on the Big 5 record labels (most of which contibute heavily to the Repub Party) to stop this trash from entering the public arena…right…
Cons quit whining and start by writing letters to the following record labels and do something for the plight of the women and minorities you are ohhh so concerned about.
The Imus equivalent would be that if you don’t like Imus, don’t listen or don’t watch.
Which is basically why they did drop him. People weren’t going to tune in, and Advertisers didnt want to throw money down a hole of a dwindling audience for a percieved racist. Jesse Jackson Factor notwithstanding, Imus was dropped because from a business standpoint its the sensible choice. Granted they’ll lose money for havbing lost one of their more powerful radio personalities, but not as much as they’d have lost be continuing to pay him to render airtime unadvertisable. Free market at work. Whats not to like?
Of course people were going to tune in. There were more calls to his annual radiothon this year than last, and the reports are that there was a great deal of support. No, the advertisers ran away, not because they feared a drop in listnership (which is easily acommodated by reducing the ad rates) but because they feared Jackson/Sharpton.
Lib, maybe, just maybe, Hannity et al, are not looking take the rappers’ livleihoods away no matter how offensive their music, insetad letting the free market decide their fates.
What’s not to like, Rex? It’s as Jay prophesied: now all our Fat Jokes are Belong to Jesse Jackson!!!
Hed,
Come on dude, who is Hannity going to attack…
A well connected white collar business man in the music business or
some 20 year old minority kid who while saying objectionable stuff cant defend himself
Its no contest on the FNC…that’s why the RW crusade of saying “well hip hop artists say it…why arent they condemned” is a joke
RW personalities are using bigotry to push an even more bigotry.
Russell Simmons? P Diddy (or whatever he calls himself now). Jay-Z? Snoop Doggy Dog. Ice-Cube, etc.
There are plenty of non-20 year old minority rappers/business men who have made fortunes off of theirs and others offensive lyrics.
Wait, so to clarify, did Darth Sharpton and Emperor Jesse Palpatine bring their evil empire down on just CBS or the entire bank of Corporations that constitute the existing and potential advertisers for his show? Prominent public figures though they are, how much influence do you think they actually exert here? What would have stopped them and their PC Storm Troopers from coming into everyone’s houses every day and mandating that we not listen to Imus on a person by person basis? Calm down with the whold conspiracy theory thing man, the simple fact is that it got uneconomical for the advertisers to sponsor, and thus for CBS to broadcast, Don Imus’s show.
I think they exert a tremendous amount of influence. The threat of a boycott from the dynamic duo scares the hell out of corporate sponsors.
How could it be uneconomical for advertisers to sponsor when it was yet unknown what, if any, drop in ratings there would be?
Re: the Dixie Chicks.
Criticising the President != insulting an entire basketball team in a demonstrably racist manner.
Think about it. Won’t you?
You guys are all over the lot on this. Try to focus.
A veritable radio icon — who I’ve never really cared for, but he was an icon — was fired from TV and radio for making racist remarks.
Does that say America is still a racist country, because Imus said that stuff, or are we getting better (or worse) because he was fired for it?
This isn’t about Jackson or Sharpton, or gangsta rappers or the Dixie Chicks.
Like the song said, “There’s something happening here… What it is, ain’t exactly clear”
Well the numbers certainly weren’t about to go up anytime soon are they? Thats a strike right there at the very least, that they could only have gone down. Even without any kind of formal boycott, at this point he can only lose listeners/viewers, and with the likelihood of one the loss rate only goes upward. It just doesnt make business sense to continue putting money in a promotion medium that can only lose its own audience, nor to continue to broadcast such a venue at the cost of prospective advertising money.
His audience wasn’t going up to begin with. He has a limited, albeit desirable, demographic. And if his audience dropped the advertisers would get a reduction of rates so there was no risk to them absent some outside force.
Who said anything about conspiracy theories with respect to Rosie?
You don’t know about the racially insensitive mocking of Asians that she refused to apologize for?
Ching chong?
By the way- she should be fired for carrying Donny I’s water and defending his free speech. (There- does that make you want to her go away?)
Dr. Anatole Gavage-Huskanoy
Marty, didn’t Doc tell you? Any ethnic and racial jokes are ok…as long as they aren’t directed at black people! So Rosie engaged in some anti-Asian talk. Big deal!
Squirrel?
5 Grammys? That’s funny. Yep- those Grammy’s were certainly for their artistry. Why, country music folks were just giddy about….
Huh?
They what? Not any? How could the Dixie Chicks not get a single nomination for the CMAs when they won five Grammys?
Note to Squirrel- even the Dixie Chicks found it to be a joke that they won Grammys for country music, seeing as they “didn’t make a country music album.” I guess they were just rewarded for being so stifled of their free speech.
(How many interviews, magazine covers, T.V. specials, 60 Minutes pieces, documentaries, talk shows and such focussed on the Dixie Chicks in the last year? But hey- no free speech for them. I should be so lucky to be so stifled.)
I hope that everyone who screamed for Imus’s firing sleeps well tonight, because the world is surely a better place now that Al Sharpton and company have cleared the path for better race relations. Right?
Thank you Jesus!
I shudder to think of who’s next to fall. Is it you, Hannity? You Oberman? How about Laura Ingram. Surely she’s next to drop off the airwaves when her screener doesn’t show up for work.
Somehow, tonight, images of McCarthy come to mind….with Al “My Shit Don’t Stink” Sharpton, playing the role of Joe.
I never had any use for Al Sharpton…tonight, well…gee…this LIBERAL, LIBERAL, LIBERAL thinks that it’s time to take a very close look at his life, and his words.
JK
Marty?
The Chicks are joking and laughing all the way to the ban … what was that? Like other artists (heard of Shania Twain?) who have successful crossover hits, they don’t have to be categorized and please country music folks?
Sorry? They could buy your sorry ass how many times over?
JK:
The good news is that nonracist I-man can pursue his charities full time.
The Chicks were rewarded for their politics- not their music. That’s my opinion and I’m sticking to it. (Three of their Grammy’s were for COUNTRY MUSIC voted on my people in other genres.)
And wow- they could buy my sorry ass? Are you being a racist, saying that these rich white women could buy this black man? Are you promoting the sale of black men to rich white women? Racist. I bet your great grandfather owned slaves, didn’t he? Pay up!
And is whether or not and how many time they could buy me your standard of greatness? Then damn- Rupert Murdoch could probably buy you a few times too. What a great man!
Ed,
Um…lol…you do realize that Don Imus fell bass akwards into increasing his market value exponentially? Uh…do you think he’ll never speak on the radio again?
You’re a silly, ineffectual fool.
Get off my donkey.
JK
5 Grammys? That’s funny. Yep- those Grammy’s were certainly for their artistry. Why, country music folks were just giddy about…. Huh? They what? Not any? How could the Dixie Chicks not get a single nomination for the CMAs when they won five Grammys?
Their album was #1 on the Billboard Country charts for nine weeks and #1 on their overall charts for two, yet was consciously blocked from play on many country stations and they were not nominated by the CMA Awards despite having won CMA awards ten times for three other albums…. and this is proof the Grammys have a political agenda?
Thank you, everyone. This has been another edition of Logic for the Totally Stupid.
Jay! Jay! I was just listening to Rush Limbaugh, and when he mentioned Obama, he totally played the Movin On Up Theme! Sharpton hasn’t gotten to him yet! We’re still living in a free country, man! For every old, white, racist crank they kill, ten more will take his place! Ten more I sa[THIS COMMENT HAS BEEN DELETED BY JESSE JACKSON]
You know…I have to mention one more thing. Tonight, I spoke with my very best friend…another lifelong Massachusetts liberal Democrat, about the Imus firestorm.
While he agreed that what Imus said was bad, his exact words: “The good news is that this may finally put an end to people like Sharpton.”
Sure..Al, got Don Imus fired.
But now the spotlight is on you, Al. You’re going to pay a definite price for your moment in the sun. For starters, I do not want you within 100 miles of the nominee of the Democratic party. Bill Clinton did the right thing when kept Jesse at arm’s length in 92.
When someone as left-wing as my best friend has had it up to his neck with professional victimhood, then we’re perhaps making progress.
JK
For what it’s worth Rosie O’Donnell apologized.
Marty | Apr 12, 2007 8:14:21 PM
“The Chicks were rewarded for their politics- not their music. That’s my opinion and I’m sticking to it.”
Fine, Marty. If people didn’t like their music, it wouldn’t sell. It’s their sales, not their awards, that really matter, right?
“And wow- they could buy my sorry ass? Are you being a racist, saying that these rich white women could buy this black man? Are you promoting the sale of black men to rich white women?”
Wow back to you, Marty. I don’t care what color your skin is. Interesting that you do.
That’s right, JK, the real villains are not the racists but the anti racists. People, the pendulum is swinging back! Racism’s gonna be cool again, and no “professional victims” like Jesse Jackson are gonna stop it this time! We shall overcome! We’re not going to stop until the sound of Rush Limbaugh calling Barack Obama “halfrican American” rings from the snowcapped Rockies of Colorado and from every hill and molehill of Mississippi. Free at last! Thank you Martyr Imus, for showing us the way to the promised land!
For what it’s worth Rosie O’Donnell apologized.
So what? So did Imus.
I guess slurs against Asians don’t cost people their jobs.
Damn Imus. He could have called the Japanese baseball team after winning the World Baseball Classic, a bunch of ‘slanty eyed nips’ and an apology would have been enough to keep going.
Unfortunately, he had to come up against Al and Jesse. Two guys that certainly have the moral authority to complain about bigotry. I still cannot believe those two race hustlers still get mainstream respect from the mainstream media.
Well, Dr…let’s put aside the fact that no one on this blog, or anywhere, for that matter, has really proven, or even made a credible case that Don Imus is a racist.
Other than that…your rant is borderline hysterical.
I think I’ve always known in my heart of hearts that the livelihoods of people like Al Sharpton DEPEND on this kind of black/white tension and discord. The irony is that I share the values of 90% of the African-American community. I just don’t think they’re being well served by people like Sharpton and Jackson.
This time, several of their so-called “leaders” went too far when they pig-piled on a flawed human being that despite all of his personal faults, tries to make the world a better place.
The truth is, if America all of the sudden woke up color blind, tomorrow…Al Sharpton would be out of a job. Heck..I sure as hell would not hire him to be my PR guy. Would you? I am struggling to understand how Al Sharpton has ever been a voice for positive change? A voice of optimism?
Don Imus will find another job.
JK
Well, Dr…let’s put aside the fact that no one on this blog, or anywhere, for that matter, has really proven, or even made a credible case that Don Imus is a racist.
Oh JK you silly little man! Better be careful. Doc will lay the smack down when he whips out his handy dandy list of Imus quotes. 10 or so quotes over a period of 40 years in radio PROVES IT.
To say otherwise makes you a racist apologist.
JK–
Right as ever! Media Matters and all those other Radic-Lib jackasses who made up all that stuff that I-man didn’t ever ever say owe him a huge apology.
(But, even thought he never said it, calling Gwen Ifell a cleaning woman and Bill Rhoden a quota hire is hi-larious. And not at a racist. Not that I-man ever said it. Cause he didn’t.)
I’ve got a case of Bell’s Beer that says JK voted for Commander Bunnypants twice.
Good bye to bad rubbish. Now to get rid of the other racist crapheads on rightwing radio and TV: Glen Beck, Bill O’Reilly, Sean Hannity, Michael Savage, Melanie Morgan, and so many more. No wonder rightists are such crazy ranting racists: they live on a steady diet of hate speech.
More Imus material. Imus has promised time and again to end the racism. He never kept his word.
Now we have the topper of the day. Congresswoman Kilpatrick? was just on one of the nightly cable shows and claims that one of the Rutgers players told her she is scarred for life by this “incident”. What a joke. Imus was certainly wrong to say what he did but he is certainly right to fire back at hypocrites piling on him and phony victimhood. Some of the more heated exchanges between black guests and white guests on the same show were hilarious. I bet reading some minds would have yielded a few racist comments each way.
I’ve got a case of Bell’s Beer that says JK voted for Commander Bunnypants twice.
I’ll take that bet.
What have Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton wrought? Will they stop at nothing? Rush Limbaugh is sitting at home shivering and sweating and heaving over a toilet, terrified that his words will be taken out of context and used against him!
And for what?
Because he pioneered the term “halfrican American?” You think that was a racist jibe? NO, SIRRAH! That term was meant FOR SCIENCE, not hate! And yet these “race hustlers” and “phony victims” think nothing of tearing down Rush Limbaugh, a man of science! Think of it — a man who once could proudly refer to all blacks as criminals is now reduced to a quivering, tearful lump, cowering in the basement of his grand estate!
FOR SHAME, RADIC-LIBS!! HAVE YOU NO PITY LEFT FOR THE LAST OF THE GREAT WHITE RACIST RADIOMEN?!?! WHAT HAPPENED TO AMERICA?!?!
are blacks are special proctected class that can engage in viscious tirads against gay and white people? they deserve not one single bit of mor eprotection the tens of millions of gay people in America – blacks trash gays all the time without consequenses- ENOUGH IS ENOUGHT- GAYS SHOULD RISE UP AGAINST BLACKS AND THEIR HATRED OF GAY PEOPLE!!!!
Imus should have been fired years ago, regardless of his recent comments. That marble mouthed idiot should worry about the pending investigation on his so called “cancer ranch” . He has been running that scam for years, for his personal profit, avoiding taxes, evoking sympathy from his meager audience. Good ridance to old garbage !
Megadittoes, Mark and Jay. But I have something terrible to reveal. You simply won’t believe it.
The simple fact is this: these RACE HUSTLERS are trying to use Imus’s own racist statments AS EVIDENCE THAT HE HIMSELF IS A RACIST!
Incredible, I know. Take a moment to let that sink it.
JK, you’ve only recently opened your eyes to the world as it is, but even to us old hands, this is a shocking turn. AND WHAT BETTER WAY TO DISTRACT US FROM OUR HOLY WAR AGAINST THE ISLAMO-FASCISTS?
But the audacity, the mind-boggling devilishness of it, suggests a more sinister power behind it all. This cannot be the work of Action Jackson and Simple Sharpton.
I think you know what I am about to suggest: This was Soros’s doing.
Jay, to the Ditto-Wagon! Alert homeland security! The Jews and the Blacks are attempting to extinguish the last bit of freedom old conservative whites have left! But we’ll fight on, telling our fat jokes JUST LIKE THE SPARTANS AT THERMOPYLAE!
WOLVERINES!!!!
post already entered
Alright, mouthbreathers, take a deep breath. One more– that’s better.
Now, we need to go over something. You can’t dismiss an issue by singling out the most obnoxious person backing it. You guys argue against the existence of global warming by attacking Al Gore personally. Irrelevant and illogical.
You make believe that Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson were influential in Imus’s firing. They weren’t. The NBC employees drove this thing, Sumner Redstone drove this thing, and Gwen Ifill’s calm, sober column drove this thing.
Al and Jesse always clamor for the attention, but they are not the real players.
And when Tim Russert visits every other week with 50 Cent, then I think it may be time to up the protests that many, including Sharpton, have aimed at rappers.
Carry on, if you can.
For the past twenty five years I have raised my three boys where all decencey has fallen from Prime time television shows, violent songs degrading women in general, violent video games, entertainers bare all, journalism is no longer an intelligent , objective forum, revered prize fighter commits rape serves his time is put back in the ring and bites off the ear of his oppenent–shame on you Reverend Jackson, Sharpton, CBS, NBC, ABC – Wherewere when America’s youth needed you on these issues… why don’t you let your big mouths roar on these issues… ? everyone knows “spare the rod–spoil the children” Is it too late for our children? our future? well! where have you been? Too many more important issues before we reached this one.. I don’t believe in taking away someone’s – Right to Speech..or else I would have had Sharpton’s taken away along time ago baby!
I just say a vote for this on aol web site and guess what they want to know who is the worst? A picture of all white people…Where is the picture of the Aferican Americans who are CRAP STIRERS ….They know who they are….God Bless…All
Come on,black women. Wise up the crapper-rappers who degrade you
I hope Imus gets a good attorney and sues for wrongful termination
how embarassing to be an american these days….a white american. so let me get this straight….racist radio personalities like starr and buckwild, stephen a smith, dave chapelle, to name a few , can say whatever they want in a comedic context about white people without fear because ‘those people’ have freedom of speach.but as soon as a white tv or radio personality attempts the same thing, its not free speach anymore, its racism? well im not apologizing for slavery and excuse me if i really dont care if slavery even existed or not. im not apologetic for it because i nor my ancestors never owned slaves. why should i pay for it for the rest of my life? so lazy black people can exploit social security and welfare in this country and hide behind something that happened over two hundred years ago??? get over it,move on! be proud instead of holding your hands out for free reign in this country! what are we going to do in the future…tax people for being white and have it go to the united negro college fund. anyone wanna donate to the united caucasian college fund, email me. im setting it up! white and proud….be black and proud and try getting along and acting as people instead of animals or expect to treated like one.
Whoa- Now THAT is a troll…
And despite everything, he apparently met with the Rutgers team this evening at the NJ Governor’s mansion and they are “considering” accepting his apology, according to CNN.
Sure, Don Imus’ comments were racist but you have to look in the mirror and ask yourself, “If he was an african american radio person and said the same thing, would this be news at all?” Why is it okay for african americans to call women “ho’s” but if a white man says it, it is abhorible? We are all human beings! If Al Sharpton is truly looking out for the protection of african americans, where are the calls for boycotts against purchasing rap music depicting the same steriotypes? He says he now wants to go after the companies that sell rap music but what about the creators? He does not go after them. I say, DOUBLE STANDARD.
So Imus screwed up – that’s no reason to take one’s livihood away. It’s time Al and Jesse focus on something a little more important. For instance, the drug problem in the United States.
Imus…The REVERAND AL Sharpton back in ’87… Rememember? 15 yr. old Tawana Brawdley was a liar. 6 guys (white but it was never about race) were raked over the coals. And the REVERAND Jesse Jackson.. Remember? “Hymie Town” aka NYC to him. And don’t forget his love child Wifey must looove that…
“He who cast the first stone” Look that one up REVERANDS
Wow.
Where are all our new best friends coming from, OW?
JK and Mr. X have a dream today. That one day, millionaire broadcasters like Don Imus will be judged not by their own racist words, but by the deficiencies of a few carefully selected critics.
Please, people, try to respect JK’s and Mr. X’s beautiful, wonderful liberal dream. It’s only as Dr. King would have wanted.
P.S. Please go easy on Rob. He has never been the same since that awful meth explosion.
Why did this line from Billy Madison just run through my head?
“Mr. Madison, what you’ve just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.”
Oh yeah, now I remember. I think it had something to do with Rob.
Two major racists with mail order credentials took down a personality who made a statement using “street” language. Did it help the reputation of the racists? Did it really hurt the personality? Did this action improve anything or teach a lesson worth anything?
This should be a lesson. I watch the BET network and racist jokes are the norm. Both black and white targeted. It must mean those shows will end right????????
there is a turn off knob on everyone’s t.v. i dont think what he said was right but there is freedom of speech. i think al sharpton should be fired. he just incites every subject there is.
I think what Imus said was the most dispicable thing I have ever heard. but in time people would forget it. The lives of the Rutgers girls will go on. Revs Al and Jessie are the true hate mongers they would rather destroy lives than help people. They are the ones who TRULY HURT the civil rights movement. We are at the mercy of their double talk.
Kind of sad that we continue to allow Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton to color or decisions both have proven that they use people for their own agendas Tawana Brawley for Al and that price of a guy Jesse having a child with another woman will being married that shows some respect for his wife and all women but than Jesse and Al dont have to worry they don’t have a job that they can get fired from. heck Ive found if I don’t like what somone says I can just turn the dial easy
Why did this line from Billy Madison just run through my head?
That quote perfectly captures the thought that goes through my head every time I read one of Dr. AGH’s posts.
Thank you, michael!
I wonder if, say,Dave Chappelle had made the N.H.H (nappy-headed-ho’s) remark about some ladies, we’d even be talking. I doubt it. Don’s only crime that I see is that he has the balls to do the un-thinkable, mock Afro-Americans while being white. White men making fun of blacks?? Ohh, my god, no,no, say it isnt so.Don’t you know that these black folks were once (300 yrs ago) slaves? Jesus c’mon, that gives them imunity from satire as we all know.American blacks are the new ‘sacred cows’. Mock and tease anybody you want,as long as they are white, asian or latino. Blacks get a free ride. (no, not on a boat, they dont like boats).WHAT?? Hey, was that a slave ship joke? Hmmmm, it was funny when Richard Pryor said something like that, but hey, he’s allowed. I hope you learned your lesson ,you old white-wrinkled-faced honky.(by the way, cancer folks say thank-you I-man, you’re a good hearted honky,we’ll miss you )
well, took them long enough to dump Imus who made a career of being a professional smart arse. Racial insulting comments not funny, but arrogance reins supreme, and it would seem that racial unrest on both sides of the fence are alive and well. The insulted have every right to be just that, but the majority of those polled some four hundred thousand persons on AOL, basically said whats the big deal. Now, THAT IS THE PROBLEM.
What of the comment : nappy headed hoes” is racist……nappy headed – nothing racist there…. that talks about a persons hair (style , the way its kept, ive seen alot of white people with nappy hair)… hoe – nothing racist there…. a whore is of all colors…..so it sounds like who ever claims it to be racist is the racist one themselves. ONCE AGAIN THE FIRST THING THAT SHOUTED OUT IS ” ITS RACIST”
MOCKING AFRO AMERICANS WHILE BEING WHITE OR MOCKING WHITE PERSONS WHILE BEING BLACK
IS
BEING RACIST
Yes, we will miss Don, that good hearted honky racist.
There all pigs, the media allows these people to run over everyone, It’s the media’s fault, This fiasco is going to keep going on for weeks, these pigs, will gain popularity amongst some, but not all, the majority of the people In this country feel the same.
If I had the opportunity to talk to Don Imus, I would tell him don’t worry, another radio station will pick you up for twice the pay!. the way the media networks listened to the advertisers, is the way the other radio stations are going to fight for him.
That’s the American way, money, profits. You will all see in the months to come!
Mistake NBC, and MSNBC now you have no one with any kind of airway ratings for your advertisers to pay for.
“Go Imus”
I guess those who are happy can relate to all of us why?
Old Don is gone, but Eminem, and the rest of the white rappers can use the same lyrics and get a gold. Go figure.
This fiasco just sounds like a tempest in a teapot to me. I am simple minded and it just seems like a very simple case of slander to me. Imus’s firing is a way for for CBS and NBC to mitigate their damages. There is a right to free speech, but slandering a bunch of collegiate ladies by a high school dropout is a sure looser.
Rev. Jesse and Rev. Al…How come no one has ever investigated either one of these 2 “activists”? Have they ever picked up a paint brush or pushed a broom to fix the crumbling neighborhoods? Have they ever gone into the community and tried to rid it of the drug dealers, prostitutes, or gang members that terrorize the locals? Have they donated any money to help local economy? Have they ever gone to a family affected by black on black crime…maybe a young child shot down in a gang shooting crossfire and try to raise money for their burial? NO! But god forbid that a white person does something wrong to a black person and they show up on the local news with their $1000 suits and their arms around their poor victims. INVESTIGATE REV. JESSE AND REV. AL AND SHOW THEM FOR WHAT THE PHONY BASTARDS THAT THEY ARE!!!!
Give me a break….nappy headed is not a racial term…I know plenty of nappy headed white people and would never have even thought for a minute that would be racial. The problem with Imus’ statement is he called the girls ‘hos’..it just seems as though everyone is overlooking that small fact. This whole thing is ridiculous. Give me a break…
Rev. Al Sharpton, what a hateful and racially motivated man this so called Reverend is. As a person of “color”, I am appalled that such a man, a Reverend none the less, uses his influence with the church in an attempt to pursue the so called oppressor of black people (the “white man”) in such a way… Sure this joke (as Imus states it is just that) was offensive in context. Sure it was a white man telling a “black joke” and as we know some people of color are sensitive to these things, but who isn’t. But, is Imus to be expected to hold a higher standard, higher than those that colored people in the entertainment industry live by. I am referring specifically to “entertainers” of the colored community who themselves make shockingly repulsive and demeaning comments on people of their own race, people of other races, people of the opposite sex, the leaders of our nation, and those whom are physically and mentally challenged. It seems that every time a person of public influence who is white makes a comment of any sort that may be deemed as offensive to the black community that we must pull out some sort of opportunistic card; in an attempt to seek some sort of justice for those injustices that were once placed upon all men & women of color (all races). When will we as people of color live by those things that we strive for, a level of equality, and lead by example & influence rather than rant on about how we were served an injustice? When will we as a “proud” people of color realize that we cannot hold other races accountable for exercising their rights to the freedom of speech, if we (colored people) abuse this right and thus make it somewhat acceptable for others to abuse it as well? Imus should be held accountable, to a point, for what was stated. I believe that he has taken the initiative and has already done what is right and apologized to all that asked this of him. Are his apologies enough, will they ever be enough, will everyone accept his apologies? Forgiveness is one of the greatest gifts that the church preaches (Al Sharpton should knows this as well as anyone). I say we forgive, but not necessarily forget, and move on! If we choose to pursue Imus for his remarks then we should pursue all people of color (black, white and every shade in between). As a person of color, I am ashamed to know that great individuals died for a chance at equality and here we are… drawing new lines.
Please read the comments by CantstanditIsay on MSNBC(message 20) on April 8th, there are a few points that were made and examples that make this “witch-hunt” of sorts very hypocritical and intolerable. I believe that all people, including the fore mentioned entertainers and leaders listed by CantstanditIsay, should be held up to the same scrutiny as Imus has been and will be. I wish to say more, but this topic and others alike will always be debated and will more than likely never see an end.

Ok guys and gals….This whole thing has been killing me. First of all, what ever happened to sticks and stones? Secondly, the white girls didnt qualify as ” nappy headed ho’s”? That term isnt directed towards any one race. Hell, if your hairs a mess then…well…its a mess. How about this : What if one day every white american decided to attempt to ruin the careers and lives of every black comedian that has ever made a joke about white people. Get over yourselves! Black, White, Mexican it dont matter….quit being friggin cry babies! No ones trying to hold you down whether it be me or the “man”. Your in college on your way to become doctors, lawyers, and some type of musical genius….I am sure you arent losing any sleep over being called “nappy headed ho’s”. As for Al Sharpton, he needs to get a life. He is great at pointing out every little thing the “white man” does, but Ive got an idea… maybe speak out on the ignorance of ALL races including his own. What about the black mother and father that killed their young son because he missed his online bible class??? He didnt have $&^! to say about that. How about taking the time to actually help your race before you try to boo hoo about stupid little comment that white people make. Either way, I may sound ignorant but I dont care……quit being butt kissers, and say what you really think!
Who cares if he is fired?? He is an idiot anyway. Just what this country needs is another racist jack ass, as if this country isn’t full of them without him. As far as the basketball team. They should spend more time worring about their careers. Pay him no mind. If we gave him no media attention he would go away eventually. NOW what will happen is some other tv station or radio will give him a contract and their ratings will go thru the roof. CBS will be sorry at some point for their decision. As far as Al Sharpton and Jessie Jackson….SHUT UP!!! ur just agravating the situation AS USUAL. Hard to belive we even listen to these morons. I saw IMUS’s program for the first time about a yr ago I couldn’t belive they even give someone like that a show LOL He is a moron definetly his big mouth got him what he deserves! Lets worry more about the fact we have an idiot for a president and our troops are still dying for no reason!!!! OH AND WAIT……3.00 PLUS A GALLON OF GAS????? IDIOTIC!! THANKS BUSH LOL
I am amazed at the comments here…people…race MATTERS! It always has and always will. And unless you are a person of color or have experienced sometime of discrimination then you will NEVER be able to understand. Do I think that there is a double standard here? Yes, but it doesn’t excuse what IMUS did/said…it is not the first time that he has been racially insensitive. Do I think that Jackson and Sharpton are clowns? Yes, and I am an African American man…however, they, like IMUS have a right to free speech. And incidently…the right to free speech means that the GOVERNMENT cannot censure our speech BUT our employers certainly may! That is what EVERYONE IS MISSING! IMUS was not fired because of the slurs alone…no, no…he was fired once the sponsers started to pull support…as the money left the building so did any chance he had of retaining his job. Like it or not…race matters, but money matters even more!
Nothing really matters. Anyone can see. Nothing really matters to me
RIP Freddie
I know one thing. Bush is dancing around the white house on one leg in glee, because know one is watching what he is up to. Thanks Sharpton
sharpton is nothin but a nappy headed ho himself !
i am white and grew up around many blacks and its funny to me that blacks call each other n- word. call their women hoes but god forbid if someone else slips up, people shpuld focus on the real issues like jobs, parenting and being productive citizens
Here’s why the right has been rejected and thoroughly discredited:
They cannot understand that two wrongs don’t make a right, and that the “but Billy did it, too” argument cuts no ice with mommy.
And I seem to recall LOTS of attempts to have the Dixie Chicks dropped by their label.
As for Rosie, have at it, righties. Good riddance to her, too.
Why isn’t anyone this upset about what happened to the three Duke players who had their case dropped…why aren’t Jackson and Sharpton going after the women who caused all this grief????
Marc: Neighbor, please! A white person with a radio audience of nearly three million listeners calling a predominantly black group of women (accomplished athletes and students, at that) nappy-haired hos isn’t a slip-up. Imus pulled this shit many times before, and people were outraged. But this time, the complaints had traction. Boo-fucking-hoo for Imus.
And do I have to explain the cultural difference between a black person calling a black person “nigga,” and a white person calling a black person, “nigger”? Sorry, but the historical baggage alone makes some things untouchable. Do I find it offensive when bboys and hhoppers call each other nigga? Sure, I guess. Does it matter that I, a sorta white guy (a lot of folks don’t consider jews ‘white’), do? Not really. Sorry it’s this way; guess it sucks to be you.
I think the blacks are missing the point. My next door neighbor is black and I am white. He was cutting his lawn with clippers one day. I had an extra lawnmower so I took it over and asked him if he would like to have it. Yes, he said, but you do know I am black don’t you? I told him I never would have noticed if he hadn’t told me.
Point is, if the blacks keep bringing up their differences to us, we are going to notice.Dont’t keep asking for special treatment.
Don Imus was just doing what he does everyday to everyone. That is his style. Turn it off if you don’t like it. The Stepford Wives-Humans is what we are going to become if the actions of Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson do not stop. They are gradually taking control of white people.
The blacks need a spokesman for them who has a sense of humor and a true desire to make better lives for themselves. Not to get ahead on the backs of white people who stumble. Imus has nothing to do with the historic problems that are going on here. He is a scapegoat. We are losing our Freedom of Speech folks. Someone needs to put out the fires that Sharpton and Jackson are starting all over the country. Make them stand up and do some good instead of continuing the chaos with their people.
its funny to me that blacks call each other n- word. call their women hoes but god forbid if someone else slips up
Yeah. You know its really getting to the point where a white man can’t call a black man a N*gger without loking like a racist.
So what have Al, Jessie and the terrified corporate giants accomplished? Imus has lost his platform and now will be unable to generate the millions of dollars that would have been channeled into a variety of worthwhile causes. Not to mention the scores of innocent people who may loose jobs that stem, in one form or another, from the “Imus Empire”. Sometimes you have to take a little bad with a lot of good. If the corporate giants were worried their continued advertising with MSNBC and WFAN would cost them money or tarnish their images as long as Imus stayed on the air, they should think twice as it may be a double edged sword. I for one will no longer waste my time listening to either nor will I spend a single penny with any advertiser who pulled the plug on Imus. Those phonies, who up until a few days ago sang his praises, have now turned their backs. Their disloyalty is far more reprehensible than anything Imus said.
Don’t you think black people (rap artists in particular) should eliminate words like “hos” from their vocabulary if they don’t want other people calling them it? I’m sick of double standards.
As long as the same people who are sporting their Racial Morality Police badges continue to engage in the kind of language they have with regard to people like Condi Rice, Michael Steele, Colin Powell and Clarence Thomas (routinely referred to by the same badge wearers as ‘steppin fetchits’, ‘house negros’, ‘slaves to massa Bush’ and ‘tokens’) — or at the very least snicker at or agree with — then quite frankly, they have no standing with the issue of Imus.
Unless somebody can explain to me how calling Condoleeza Rice a ‘house negro’ is any less offensive or racist than calling a female Rutgers basketball player a ‘nanny headed ho.’
Imus has lost his platform and now will be unable to generate the millions of dollars that would have been channeled into a variety of worthwhile causes. Not to mention the scores of innocent people who may loose jobs that stem, in one form or another, from the “Imus Empire”.
Oh fer chrissake, yeah, because Imus is the only person that these people can work for. Imus is the only way these charities were getting any money. Imus was the only way they could have cured cancer with his magical healing touch HE’S JUST A FUCKING VOICE you damn imbeciles! Western Civilisation will not collapse simply because one guy isnt on the radio any more. The people he employed will find other jobs, the charities he endorsed will find other endorsements, for gods sake Imus himself will probably get a whole new show in Sirius. Stop talking like Al sharpton used his evil magical control over all of America to destroy the worlds last hope at survival already.
I think this was totally blown out of proportion! If Imus made that remark in front of any other person we would never have heard about it! BUT NO SHARPTON Jumps on any band wagon he can… I don’t see Sharpton making a big deal about the woman who wrongly accused the duke lacross players whose life aspirations were shattered!!!
HE’S JUST A FUCKING VOICE you damn imbeciles! Western Civilisation will not collapse simply because one guy isnt on the radio any more.
That’s funny because the very people who shouted he should be fired said he wasn’t “just a voice” and behaved as if he stayed on the air, western civilization would collapse.
I just want to point out this comment by Dee: “Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson… are gradually taking control of white people.”
SO TRUE!!! And it’s worse than that — we may have a black president soon too! Then we whites will only have had 43 white presidents in a row! WHAT’S HAPPENING TO THIS COUNTRY?!?!
And Jay, when did Rush Limbaugh call Condi that? Was it before or after he called Obama a “halfrican American?” Glad to see you’re coming around on Rush, Jay. The man’s racial hatred is simply unnacceptable in this day and age.
I think it is ridiculous that so much has been made of this. How many men and woman of color have made ethic slurs and jokes at the expense of “white people?” I would like to know where these same people are (Jesse Jackson, Whoopi, Spike, etc.)when publicity needs to be gathered for the MILLIONS of people that take advantage of our welfare system in the US!!! We have a right to free speech, this man made a mistake, a big one that he will pay for in spades. I hope he goes to satillite radio where real people want to hear controversy! I’ve been victimized myself by black people using racism against me, NO ONE ever fired them or held them out to be stoned. Imus just got caught saying something that was intended as humor. This whole situation is a joke!
“this man made a mistake, a big one that he will pay for in spades”
Oh no, you didn’t.
That’s funny because the very people who shouted he should be fired said he wasn’t “just a voice” and behaved as if he stayed on the air, western civilization would collapse.
Look, fine then, do we agree that anyone who was exaggerating the importance of being Imus on either side of this argument is being an idiot about it? That anyone claiming he must be either kept on the air or removed from it permanently because he’s so damn important and lives hinge on his words alone is being ridiculous?
Do we also agree that CBS Radio and MSNBC are free to terminate whatever contracts they had with Imus’s show if they feel its not in their best financial interest to continue them? Say they think, for whatever reason (Let us pretend, to I’m sure everyone’s eternal delight, that Al Sharpton never existed) that its just not the best idea for accruing potential new listeners and thereby ad revenue to have a man on the air who has a history of making racist statements. Do they have the right to drop him?
If the only thing left to complain about is that Sharpton and Jackson exploit this kind of thing just to get famous then fine, to some extent they must, and so does everyfreaking body. But to keep this from becoming a one-upsmanship contest that ends in the inevitible terminus of President George W Yeehaw exploiting a certain date that escapes me in order to secure his re-election and keep this on the actual subject of his firing, what is the actual problem?
Actually Doc, people like John Edwards hand picked blogger Amanda Marcotte call Condi Rice a ‘house negro.’
I think this whole thing has been blown way out of proportion. 2 weeks without pay should have been enough, and would have been, but the “sponsers” turned chicken and ran. The man apologized so many times my head is spinning. Trust me if the situation was reversed, nobody would have said anything. Ex: Sharpton, or Jackson, or Micheal Jordon even, make a comment like, “I just love those blonde bimbos who play basketball, love to watch those titties go up and down, or some of them don’t move at all you could get your eye poked out.”
This country is so racist but it’s the other way around. God forbid anybody say anything about a black person, but it’s just fine for black people to say whatever they want about white people. I’m trying to raise my kids to not see colors, but to judge people on their evil or goodness, and it’s pretty hard when a ruckus gets started over something stupid like a comment made by a “shock”dj, I mean wasn’t that why he was hired? To stir things up a bit? I’m sure he’ll land on his feet and probably get a better job and good for him. If you don’t like what you hear, change the channel. My kids could care less about the statement, they know the context in which it was made. It hasn’t changed their minds, there are good and bad people in this world, all colors of the rainbow, but give everyone a chance. If they mess up, my kids just stay away from them, just like turning a channel. I’m hoping things turn out well for you Mr. Imus. And I’m happy for the basketball team for winning. Now can we get down to more serious things than a comment, like the war, our boys (white and black, and yellow, and tan, etc) pray for their safe return. The enviroment. trying to win the battle against Aids and Cancer, why not turn all this energy everyone is using over this statement and try raising money for research, homeless, etc. As the late great John Lennon said, “You may say that I’m a dreamer
But I’m not the only one
I hope someday you’ll join us
And the world will live as one”
Look, fine then, do we agree that anyone who was exaggerating the importance of being Imus on either side of this argument is being an idiot about it?
Yes, we do agree. I don’t like that he got fired and I think it’s just another step down a path that leads us to the most boring radio ever heard, but I’m not ready to believe that the world will end.
Do we also agree that CBS Radio and MSNBC are free to terminate whatever contracts they had with Imus’s show if they feel its not in their best financial interest to continue them?
Absolutely. I said from the start that the the reason he wasn’t immediately canned was because of the revenue his show generated.
My main problem Rex are the people like I said, who get very sanctimonious when it comes to racism. Those are the people who immediately referred to anybody who disagreed with the call for Imus’s termination, “racist apologists” or “defenders of racism.” They’re the ones who went and patted themselves on the back when Imus was fired and it quite frankly, its nauseating because it’s so largely fake.
Rex, the problem is that people want to focus on the sins of Imus, when they should be focusing on THE SINS OF JESSE JACKSON AND AL SHARPTON, WHO “ARE GRADUALLY TAKING CONTROL OF WHITE PEOPLE”!!!
As such, every “serious” person who comments on this thread must have 20% of their comment be the words ‘Sharpton’, ‘Jesse’, ‘Dave Chappelle’, ‘phony victims’, and ‘race hustler.’ Anyone using less than that quota will be judged unserious on racial matters.
So the statement: “I think Don Imus is a racist and he should be fired” is now unacceptable.
Instead, write: “I think Don !JESSE! Imus is a !RACE HUSTLER! racist and !DAVE CHAPPELE! should be fired !FAKE VICITMS!” — that’s acceptable.
Remember, as Jay teaches, if you can’t turn a discussion of Imus’s racism into a discussion of the flaws of certain specific of his critics, then it’s not a “serious” discussion at all and the Islamofascists win.
We certainly seem to have a different crowd than usual on this thread. Perhaps one of you can answer a question for me:
Is it true that squirrel tastes just like chicken?
“My main problem Rex are the people like I said, who get very sanctimonious when it comes to racism.”
In other words, racism is a problem. But the bigger problem are the anti-racists, who are so fake that Jay becomes “nauseated.”
Just out of curiosity, Jay, on the nausea scale, how nauseated are you by Rush Limbaugh’s calling Barack Obama a “halfrican American”? Very nauseated, or just slightly? Why is racist speech less nauseating to you than anti-racist “sanctimony”?
To paraphrase from Billy Madison:
“Dr. Anatole Gavage-Huskanoy, what you’ve just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone on this blog is now dumber for having read it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.”
In fairness to Dr. AGH, my comment was directed at his 11:39am post. At least in his 11:46am post you could sort of figure out what he is trying to say.
Amen to Marty and Oliver. When will Al Sharpton ever have time to clean up his hip-hop friends songs? Now who’s a bigot?
I think I heard Imus use the “JIGABOOO” word too, right?…..I might be wrong…..If so, sorry Imus.If right, shame, shame, shame…. I don’t like racists….Have NO TIME for them…..NOBODY SHOULD, sooooo, I’m asking people, ESPECIALLY people of color to help rid the country of racists. Imus will find another job AND Jackson and Sharpton will have to finally go to work instead of stealing from the black community……..The very people they “claim” to protect…..I wish you all a long healthy life and great happiness
I apologize to everyone here for reminding VWRC of that quote.
Well, not _everyone_ here.
Jay’s Racial Law #12:
I) If you are against racism AND ARE BLACK, then you are responsible for policing the offensive words of every black hip hop artist, broadcaster, and comedian who has ever lived.
II) If you are against racism AND ARE WHITE, then you have no reponsibility to police any offensive words by any artists, comedians, or broadcasters whatsoever. Just change the channel, man!
Warning: Failure to abide by these rules will result in Jay becoming nauseated by your sanctimony.
I apologize to everyone here for reminding VWRC of that quote
Which is why I didn’t add ‘h/t to michael’ in my post. Didn’t want anyone to blame you.
…okay, so let me make sure I follow here… Imus makes a “racist” statement (“Nappy-headed Ho’s”). Group A takes (or pretends to take) offense at the statement. Group B is offended in the way Group A takes offense (exaggerating the context and importance of the statement) and Defends Imus. Group A then Takes offense at Group B’s defense of Imus’s offense, (calling them racist apologists and the like). So you come here and say that you’re taking offense at how Group A takes offense with Group B’s taking offense at Group A’s taking offense at Imus…
…see now here I am, sitting in my little corner, trying to not actually give a damn one way or another. Foolish me for thinking my life the richer for keeping out of a ridiculous clusterfuck.
Oh, um, also Doc? Wouldn’t kill your argument to turn the knob down to anything under 11 would it? You’re coming off a little batshitty.
Holly wrote: “When will Al Sharpton ever have time to clean up his hip-hop friends songs?”
Ooh! Ooh! I know! I know! March 9, 2005!
I’m just trying to have a serious discussion abiding by the precepts Jay teaches. And as we know, any discussion of Imus must, by his racial laws, become a discussion of the sins of carefully selected blacks, like Al Sharpton, Dave Chappelle, and 50 Cent.
Jay’s crusade against sanctimony shall not be mocked — it is truly the highest aspiration for any good person, and not a distraction from the issue of racism.
Not one bit.
Imagine, VRWC drone, the sheer, overwhelming choice of inarticulate, barely understandable Decider quotes we could circulate.
Holly posted Amen to Oliver and Marty…Imus was only the target of Sharpton and Jackson to distract the public from the Duke Lacrosse conclusion, which they were innocent, AL!!!!! Go fight disgusting hip-hop or get a job!!!
Good work, Holly: your post about Imus brought in Sharpton, Jackson, the Duke Lacrosse players, and Hip Hop. Next time, try to see if you can work in Dave Chappelle and George Soros. But good effort overall.
Just remember that at all times your job is to keep the focus on a carefully selected group of blacks who are unpopular with white people. This isn’t about Imus. It’s about Al Sharpton telling us we can’t tell fat jokes any more. Fight the power!
Thank you, Rex Mundane, I now stand corrected, maybe Al could request a 90 day ban annually!! Again, thanks for the forward.
Imagine, VRWC drone, the sheer, overwhelming choice of inarticulate, barely understandable Decider quotes we could circulate.
Now THAT would be a long list to choose from. Fortunately for us, the Decider isn’t on this thread trying to debate an issue or make a point, or else we’d have to wade through his screeds and try to decipher what he was saying as well.
I’m guessing you’ve confused me with someone who thinks highly of Bush. You’d be wrong. Although I am one of those evil CONs you hear Dr. AGH and Lib4 rail on about, I manage to ignore the commands from Dear Leader and Darth Cheney and Jabba-the-Rove to do their foul bidding.
Wow, I stand corrected, I meant thanks to Quaker for the Al Sharpton clip. definitely no thanks to Max’s crude vocabulary, I WAS having my 11 year old read this blog….
This whole thing is about civil rights. Let’s reveiw racist people affecting other’s rights in the past year? Black woman stripper accuses a white college lacross team of rape for a quick pay day. Black Panthers, NAACP, Al’s black gang, and Jesse’s black gang demand these “Rich priveledged white men” are found guilty. So white guys are now guilty until proven innocent EVEN WHEN THERE IS NO EVIDENCE!!!! Now we go to this week, White man says “nappy headed hos” on radio, while the same sentence was uttered on a black reality TV show earlier in the week. White man is a racist, because black people were once slaves, so white people are all, still to this day, responsible for slavery! Even though all of the white people today have and had nothing to do with slavery, and most of our ancestors had nothing to do with slavery either. (remeber alot of us white people came across the Atlantic as indentured servants and legal immigrants who had nothing. Not too many rich Italian, German, Russian, French, Irish…etc immigrants who could afford slaves. not to mention slavery was frowned at in the north……. WHERE THEY IMMIGRATED TO!!!!
So basically white people have lost 2 major rights in the bills of rights because of slavery which ended 144 years ago. RIDICULOUS!!!
Oh and let’s not forget the white’s ARE ALLOWED TO BE DISCRIMINATED AGAINST LEGALLY!!!! Supreme court case Bakke vs. California
From the link provided by Quaker:
How exactly do you see this as an effort by Al Sharpton to clean up rap songs?
From the link that O-Dub provided:
OK, at least here it appears he is looking at rap music lyrics. But even so, is calling for a generic ban on rap music artists the same as aggressively going after a specific shock jock to have him removed from the airwaves?
I’m hearing reports that with Imus successfully fired, Sharpton is now vowing to “detoxify” the airwaves. If he is truly committed to removing racist and misogynist comments from the air, we can expect to see him going after the music companies and radio stations (and their sponsors) who sell or air degrading rap music with the same level of enthusiasm that he did with Imus.
IF SHARPTON DOESN’T CLEAN UP RAP THEN WE HAVE TO TOLERATE RACISTS ON THE AIRWAVES!!!! IT’S JUST THAT SIMPLE, PEOPLE!!!
Let me ask a question. Why is it the the liberals (who have identified themselves as that) attack other people by calling them racists, bigots, homophobe…etc (basically defamitory names that cannot be defended or proven) because they disagree with their point of veiw?
Can’t you use facts and not be personal while arguing your case?
When someone goes to name calling attack instead of stating facts and educated opinions, it usually means they don’t know what they’re talking about.
I’m not a cons or a lib, I see both sides have merits and faults, but I do see that cons have a more structured argument then liberals do.
MD: why is it that the white conservatives expect black anti-racists to police all black people’s offensive speech, yet feel no similar obligation to Imus, a white offender?
And for the record, no conservative has yet presented a “structured” argument aside from “I don’t think Imus is a racist, he just says racist things” and the distraction tactic of “Hey! Look! Al Sharpton! 50 Cent!”
If you’ve seen a “structured argument” MD, please point it out.
Dr: I don’t think white conservatives want anybody policing anyones freedom of speech or expression. The problem they are pointing out is that a white guy who said the same thing black guys say is being held accountable for his phase or expression while at the same time black guys can say what ever they want and are actually get defended for having this double standard.
If Imus was not fired this would not be anything and it would have been forgotten about already, but when one group of people are allowed certain rights while another group is denied those rights, it’s discrimination!!!! That’s the whole argument as I hear it and these “white conservatives” are just saying hey if your gonna fire Imus (who is a liberal, judging from his guests) then black people who say that phrase or use racism should be held to the same standard.
I think that’s fair don’t you?
I think you might want to read through the postings again, not all of them said that. Most of them state that two black guys who have used race to make their careers have demanded the a white DJ be fired for saying the same thing black entertainers say constantly and the same kind of racist jokes black comedians (from Richard Pryor to Chris Rock)have made a career on.
The biggest problem here is that no one has any tolerance for freedom of speech or expression. If true freedom existed in this country then we wouldn’t even be talking about this subject.
It’s not a double standard if they’re not the same people, MD. Snoop Dogg, Dave Chappelle, Richard Pryor — none of these people have Thomas Friedman or Joe Lieberman as regular guests on their radio show. They are not treated as a member of the legitimate press, or as an arbiter of high-minded political opinion.
People are free to object to Snoop or Chappelle or whoever else. What the conservatives are asking for Imus is special protection from the consequences of his actions, and then insisting that his racist words are not actually racist.
“hey if your gonna fire Imus (who is a liberal, judging from his guests) then black people who say that phrase or use racism should be held to the same standard”
He’s not liberal; he’s just anti-Bush. And I don’t get it: should people denounce hateful speech or should they shut up about it? I say it’s fine for people to complain and denounce hateful speech. Conservatives want those people silenced and shamed for some reason.
“no one has any tolerance for freedom of speech”
Of course they do. Imus can say whatever he wants. But CBS doesn’t have to pay him to say it.
“when one group of people are allowed certain rights while another group is denied those rights, it’s discrimination!!!”
You have yet to show where rights enter into it. No one’s right has been infringed upon. Speech has countered speech, and conservatives are whining for a special pass on racism that Imus (and Rush Limbaugh) don’t deserve.
Also, thank you for not trying to distract the issue with appeals to the EEEVILS of Al Sharpton in your post, MD.
“I don’t think white conservatives want anybody policing anyones freedom of speech or expression”
Unless, of course, you’re making a documentary about Ronald Reagan, or you’re a Dixie Chick.
What the conservatives are asking for Imus is special protection from the consequences of his actions, and then insisting that his racist words are not actually racist.
That’s a load of horseshit. Nobody has argued that Imus deserves special protection. You’re lying again.
And nobody said his racist words weren’t racist. YOU’RE saying HE is racist and a bigot based on the handful of quotes you picked out from his 35+ years on the radio. And I’ll eat my computer monitor if you’ve never told a racial or ethnic joke.
The issue is not with any of us. It’s with people like YOU. Once again, you put on your Racial Morality Police badge and you walk around with an electric back slapper saying, “Look at me! I won’t tolerate racism on the airwaves!”
But apparently, other forms of bigotry is A-OK with you. That makes you a HYPOCRITE. So yes Doc, it is about YOU. Because you’re posturing is just that: posturing. You don’t give a rat’s ass whether Imus is on the radio or not. You just want to make sure that you can feel warm and fuzzy that you “took a stand!”
If you truly cared about removing hatred from the airwaves, you’d take a principled stand and make the claim that ALL such hatred should be taken off the air.
If you truly had any principles you would have said that you could no longer support John Edwards because he supported Imus. You haven’t done that either, because you’re a HYPOCRITE.
You’re a fake. A phony.
Despite that spectacular display of froth and foam, distraction is not an argument, Jay. Imus said racist things, and people rightly objected to them, and there were consequences. That you dislike me is irrelevant to Imus as well as to me. Carry on.
The dixie chicks were not fired from their record labels or taken off the air, people who didn’t like what they had to say stopped listening to them and buying their records. Their was not a protest to have them banned from recording anything, people who disagreed with them, had children in the military, people who support the troops, and those that served decided not to give them money by purchasing their albums or their tickets. They did not write letters, start protests, and demend that the record label and all advertisers associated with the dixie chicks stop supporting them. The people allowed them to have their freedom of speech and expression but decided not to support them by not listening to them. They didn’t demand that everyone should agree with their stance and shun the dixie chicks.
Their is a double standard because other broadcasters that are minorities do say racist things on the radio or their talk shows. Watch BET or listen to a black radio station.
I think that if you don’t agree with what their stance is or what they’re saying then don’t listen to them, don’t buy them, and don’t support them. Don’t do everything in your power to silence them, which is what just happened. no one should be censored and CBS knows what kind of show Imus had for years. the reason he has been silenced was because a segment of society did not like what he had to say and rather using the freedom of choice and turning off his show, they decided to speak for everyone by having him silenced. That is censorship, and it should not happen.
So now where does it stop? Who is in charge of what’s offensive and what’s not? It looks like we are getting closer and closer to a totalitarian solcialism, and that’s scary.
And — to finish the quote (a la Bob Grant): a fraud.
Hey, Dr. Agonizing Garbage Husker Dü: What’s say we torture Imus?
Yeah, that’s the ticket!
Here is what I take Jay’s latest comment to mean:
A) Racists on the radio should be able to say whatever they want and be free of any negative attention or embarrassment, on the grounds of freedom of speech.
B) People who oppose racism should be exposed to maximum negative attention and embarrassment, because they are sanctimonious and phony, and therefore do not deserve free speech protections.
C) Racism is impossible to judge or even detect based on someone’s words.
D) On the other hand, sanctimony, phoniness and hypocrisy are quite detectable, and are in fact more immoral than racism, which is rather harmless by comparison.
E) The highest form of argument is the ad hominem.
We can either have a discussion or I can return to making fun of you. I enjoy both, so it’s your call, Jay.
Doc, it has nothing to do with disliking you. It’s just that you won’t be allowed to tout your moral superiority anymore since it is built on nonsense.
“They didn’t demand that everyone should agree with their stance and shun the dixie chicks.”
Sure they did. They tried to have their concert tour cancelled in many locations. They also got the Reagan miniseries pulled.
“Their is a double standard because other broadcasters that are minorities do say racist things”
Sure there are. But just because someone opposes Imus’s racism doesn’t mean they have to jump at your command to oppose whatever pet racist you’ve got in mind. If you object to somebody, speak out about them. The rules of the game are the same for everyone.
“no one should be censored”
Imus wasn’t censored. He was fired for saying something that was objectionable and embarrasing. At most companies these days, there are policies against this sort of speech. If he didn’t like that policy, he can quit. Why does he deserve a special exemption for racism that a guy in the mailroom or even a CEO wouldn’t get?
“Who is in charge of what’s offensive and what’s not?”
The same people who’ve always been in charge: nobody. Or maybe it’s the free market system. But it’s certainly not Al Sharpton or Jesse Jackson.
“It looks like we are getting closer and closer to a totalitarian solcialism”
No it doesn’t. When conservatives got the Reagan documentary pulled, I thought it sucked, but I understood how and why it happened, and “totalitarian socialism” really wasn’t in the picture.
“you won’t be allowed to tout your moral superiority anymore since it is built on nonsense”
Think what you like. But I am curious about the fact that you can judge me to be a phony, a fake, and a hypocrite, and a liar, and unprincipled, and even claim that I’ve told racist jokes.
And despite all those very solid, very serious claims about my mental and moral condition, when it comes to Imus, you’re suddenly agnostic about him being a racist, when you have much more evidence with regard to him than you do for me.
How do you justify that logically?
He’s not liberal; he’s just anti-Bush.
Trying to rewrite history there, Doc? In addition to having a history of criticizing the Bush administration, he supported Kerry in 2004. Sounds more like a liberal than a conservative to me. Do you have any quotes or links to prove otherwise?
No. He may be a liberal, though the way he talked about the Clintons I assumed he was a standard conservative crank. I don’t really care if Imus is liberal or not, VRWC. I never listened to him, and he seems like an asshole. But supporting Kerry doesn’t make a person a liberal, either, so you haven’t provided dispositive evidence either. And the folks who were always most critical of Imus were liberals. But that’s a digression…
Sure they did. They tried to have their concert tour cancelled in many locations.
Who is this mysterious “they” that tried to have the Dixie Chicks tour cancelled?
Shows were cancelled on their tour last summer due to slow ticket sales, mostly in the South where a lot of still pissed-off former Dixie Chicks fans live. They replaced some of the stops with additional shows in the Northeast and Canada.
Who is this mysterious “they” that tried to have the Dixie Chicks tour cancelled?
Probably the ones standing outside of the venues in that Shut Up and Sing movie, visible in the trailer saying things like “I support freedom of speech but not in public.”
Sounds more like a liberal than a conservative to me.
Yes, we liberals are constantly referring to Hillary Clinton as “Satan.”
d-e-f-a-m-a-t-o-r-y, v-i-e-w
It depends on the words people use. If you listen to people like Imus, Michael Savage, Glen Beck and Rush and others, they use words and phrases that contain anti-Semitic, homophobic, racist or sexist language. It is not a matter of viewpoint, but of social convention. By extension, one can deduce that the usage of specific terminology denotes acquiescence to the views expressed thereby.
I never listened to him
But you know,/b> he’s a racist.
By extension, one can deduce that the usage of specific terminology denotes acquiescence to the views expressed thereby.
You’re not by any chance a detective, are you, Mike?
Because you’ve got lousy powers of deduction.
If I were to be listening to radio celebrity “A” on TUE, when he uses no offensive words, how am I “acquiescing to his views” on WED, when I am not listening to him?
Try skipping the big words — many of which you have misused — and putting your thinking cap on.
Fixing bold?
>>I know one thing. Bush is dancing around the white house on one leg in glee, because know one is watching what he is up to. Thanks Sharpton
Ha! Best comment in this thread I’ve read!
The world will not collapse because Don Imus got fired.
However, Don Imus used the radio as a medium to raise millions for cancer, SIDS, and so on.
So, Rex…Dr., while both of you will continue to enjoy your half-caf decaff light latte with a twist at Starbucks while glaring intently at the high-school age counter-girl, there are children and families (people/human beings, btw) who will be demonstratably worse off because Don Imus no longer has a voice on the radio.
So, in my mind…that makes you less compassionate “liberals” than you otherwise might have been before I knew you so long ago (yesterday).
And “Eddie,” if Don the “not-racist” bothered you for his “not-racist” behavior, for so long, why weren’t you on the phone to Sharpton 5 years ago? Oh…I forgot. You don’t answer questions. You simply drip sarcasm. Good luck with that. Hope it works out for you.
Ahhh…the new age of “McSharptonism.” I don’t use that in jest. There are some serious parallels between Sharpton’s comments the past week, and that of one Senator Joe McCarthy in the 1950′s.
Talk Radio hosts around the country, most of whom I loathe for their rabid right-wing views, are very nervous that they are the next to go.
Did race relations improve? Well, the Rutgers team accepted Imus’s apology. So, they improved between the people that mattered the most, even if their Coach is a blatant opportunist who exploited this opportunity so she can get a guest spot, or perhaps permanent spot on “The View.”
I’m obviously upset. Why? Because I thought liberals were more forgiving than this.
Bunch of effing hypocrites, all of you.
GET OFF MY DONKEY.
JK
So let me get this straight now. We have freedom of speech as long as we watch what we say and don’t do it in public were someone might hear. We have freedom of expression as long as that expression is approved by “policing agents” of the socialist party (which use to be called liberal, cause liberal do believe in the constitution, socialists don’t). We have the right to presumption of innocence until proven guilty, unless we are rich white college kids. Pretty soon we’ll have the rights to bear and keep arms, as long as they cannot be reloaded automatically, and discrimination is illegal, except against white straight people. Yeah we sound pretty free to me. Sounds like we all of our rights are still intact in the spirit of the constitution. byt who cares about the constitution right, it was written by a bunch of slave owning racist pastie white clowns, right socialist?!?!?!
I don’t think I want to live in your country DR.
“Conservatives want those people silenced and shamed for some reason.”
No they don’t, they’re asking for consistency. If you silence one man by firing him for a racist/sexist comment, then every other person who makes racist/sexist comments should be silenced also. See it discrimination when you allow one group to do something and another group is not allowed to do that same thing. I know it’s a hard concept to grasp, but if you study the history of the civil rights movement you’ll see that it all started because one group of people were allowed to do all of these things, and another group was not. I know it sounds so silly but it’s true, it’s not a conspiracy theory, it actually happened. I know how some of you socialists like to believe nothing in history is how it happened, and that you through your extensive research (some guys blog) you know the real truth and teach that because you have a masters or PHd, but that actually happened and it was called discrimination.
I know, it’s not discrimination because it’s against white people, yes it is. The law does not specify what races are protected under this law, it covers all races socialists.
It might help to stop seeing “the race issue” as a political one.
The federal government, if it has any business in this dispute, should stay out of it, anyway.
I believe that the beginning of our serious racial division (obviously, not the beginning of discrimination for blacks) was in forced school busing to achieve integration.
Two glaring examples: In Yonkers, NY, a Judge Sand micromanaged the race issue in education until he left the bench.
Example #2 Lincoln School in New Rochelle NY was demolished, because a suitable plan to integrate it couldn’t be found.
EVERYBODY here as lost sight of the real reason that Imus was canned…oh, sure the racism issue makes for a platform for alot of people to spout rhetoric all day long but Imus was not fired for being a fricking bigot…he was fired because the sponsers that he had saw that precious public opinion was crucifying him and they wanted to disassociate themselves in order to insure that they did not lose a SINGLE, SOLITARY DIME!!! Wake up everybody! Jesse, Al, Imus, Condi, Duke Lacrosse players, Rappers and their nasty, degrading lyrics…NOBODY, ABSOLUTLY NOBODY is greater than the ALMIGHTY DOLLAR! Go to your job on Monday and do something that your boss/bosses think might discredit the company that you work for…YEAH, you’ll be fired for cause quicker than you can say, “Rainbow Coalition”! The employer ALWAYS has a right to censure speech, no matter how cowardly that it may appear to others…the employer is trying to do one thing and one thing only…MAKE A BUCK! Race is an issue in this country, this is indeed true…but in THIS case, race did not play a part in the Imus termination…dollars and cents did. As an African American man I don’t think Imus should have been fired on the basis of this one incident…now if you want to add all the incidents of bigotry that he has displayed since he has been on air then fine…but, for anyone to be foolish enough to believe that THIS incident is merely a racial issue does not recognize who really runs this country…CORPORATE AMERICA! And Corporate America sees only one color, my friends, money green!
But the race issue is a political one when the politicians place race ahead of whats right or wrong, fair or unfair, so they can get the minority votes. Look at illegal immigration. They will give them amnesty even though the majority of America doesn’t want it, because it means more votes for them and more political power. Then they make it a “race” issue so that if anyone apposes them they are racist. When it’s not about race it’s about legal and illegal, not to mention this is the exact same way Texas gained independence from Mexico, is an influx in illegal immigration to Texas from America to get free land. The majority became American and they had enough of a majority to pull away from Mexico, and if you don’t think the hispanic power movement hasn’t thought of this, your wrong. they have it on there web pages that they will take the land back that was “stolen” from them in the Mexican/American War. So if you wanna look at politics as they’re no racial go ahead, it doesn’t make it true. Why do you think Hillary Clinton went to Selma with a Black accent? SHE NEEDS VOTES!!!
Amazed: This was a racial issue. Didn’t Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson both confirm it was a raist remark? Then that would make it a RACIAL ISSUE. Didn’t Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson go to CBS and tell them that there would be protests until they fired Imus? YES. MSNBC fired Imus because fellow employees complained about keeping him because of his RACIST comment. Both of those incidents make this a racial issue. Did advertisers leave? Yes, but did it make an impact on NBC or CBS? NO. In fact I think their stock went up over the next couple of days after this happened. So it was not about money. The problem in this country is that if a black man got canned for saying racist remarks on the radio (which they do every day) this would be racism. Since it’s a White guy he got what he deserves, since he’s white and white people owe black people because of slavery, and every black commentator I saw on Cable News all said basically the same thing. He deserved to get fired for a racist comment, but black people are allowed to make racist comments about white people because of slavery.
The sponsors ran because they were afraid of a Jackson/Sharpton boycott. They didn’t run because Imus was losing listeners, it was too soon to know what would happen.
MD…
Ok, so let me get this straight…just because Jesse and Al…the jaded Reverends “say” it’s a racist remark then it IS one? I am 45 years old and while I did not live during the same times at the same age as the aforementioned “gentlemen” I have experienced quite a bit of true racism in my day…What Imus said was insensitive, and bigoted yes…but the fact STILL remains that IF no sponsers withdrew support from the show then he would have served his suspension and been back eventually. As far as a Jesse/Al “sponsered” boycott…I live in South Carolina and the NAACP has been trying to get African Americans to boycott this state because of the Confederate flag that once flew on the state capitol building…albeit that it now is off the capitol building but still on the state house grounds; the boycott has not worked yet. People…Jesse and Al DO NOT speak for every African American man and woman in this country! I believe that they pick their battles according to how much positive press and how lucurative the situation may be to them…Oh, they do some good in some instances but I believe that for the most part they are self serving…and to Hedley…Imus losing listeners wasn’t the problem…true it WAS too soon to tell…but Imus did lose sponsers…BIG ONES…and that was the proverbial last straw…and who exactly would Al and Jesse have had to boycott Imus…I would venture to guess that not many African Americans were listeners, and although he had a few African American guests from time to time he had more than enough other people that would still come on his show after all the hoopla died down…’nuff said!
Amazed: The problem you don’t see is that anyone who stands up to Al, Jesse, the NAACP, or any minority activist group gets labeled racist, bigot, sexist, homophobe……..etc. These are title that cannot be defended against. They can be proven only by a few people saying that they are. This is because the Media in this country (run by socialists) only give one half of the story, the “this guy’s a racist” side, with both Rev AL and Rev Jesse getting the lime light of how he’s racist, while they put something about Civil Rights under their name, little part of the accused saying part of his peace (the part that helps sell the story) and there you go. The guy is guilty, because all those wgo watch think back to the 60′s and how civil rights activists use to mean something, like when DR. King was alive, but those days are gone. The public doesn’t see that because the media won’t let them. Just like the Duke Lacross case. If it weren’t for FOX News, it would have been another witch hunt, where everyone bowed to Al, Jesse, and the NAACP. This is not about civil rights anymore, if it was then no one’s rights would have been infringed, but a they were. This is about hatred, supermecy, and racism. The NAACP, Al, and Jesse don’t want civil rights, they want payback for slavery, they want every white person to pay with their freedom, they want us to feel as their ancestors did. I’ve heard young blacks talk like this and wondered where they get it from and the past few days have shown me that this is not about fair and right it’s about making white people pay. That’s my take based on racist remarks I have had to put up with on BET, UPN, at parties that my black “friend” would invite me to, were he was cool with me but around his “friends” he was a racist, criminals I had to watch who were on restriction, click I saw on my ship, and what happened this past week to Imus and the Duke Lacross players, who have not received an apology from any black activist group who condemned them yet. NOT ONE!!!! They actually beleive that the DA ruined his own career and maybe his life to save three rich white people!!!!! It’s all about race, you may not think so cause it’s against white people, so the concept is new to you, but it is racial discrimination in all it’s definitions.
MD…You must not be understanding what I am saying…racism/bigotry is found in all races and ethnicities…are there racist African Americans and other people of color…ABSOLUTELY!! But to push aside the fact what Imus said was WRONG no matter what color he was and inferring that what he said is ok because of the music in rap, and the dialogue on some tv stations is like clinging to a piece of cardboard in a raging sea and hoping you’ll stay afloat…I’ll clarify something for you…I am bi-racial…dad-black, mom-white…so when I said that I have experience racism a time or two I wasn’t joking…FROM BOTH SIDES! So being discriminated for being white is not a new concept for me…I agree with most of what you say but I still contend that IN THIS CASE just because Sharpton and Jackson said that this was a case of race doesn’t necessarily make it so and that IN THIS CASE the color GREEN ruled the day…but you cannot take the civil rights movement and all the atrocities that were committed during not only that time frame but also during the days of slavery and equate that with what happened to the Duke Lacrosse players…civil rights activitists still mean something just remember that Jesse and Al don’t really fit that bill any longer…those that still fight the honest fight against racism and for equality for ALL people will tell you that they fight not only for people of color but for equality FOR ALL PEOPLE…I believe that we could go on forever and argue valid points but what good would that do? So I’ll say this and let it go…Imus is fired…he is gone…he will get another job somewhere…he will probably be a little more careful about choosing what he deems as comedy and putting into the airwaves from here on in…his life and the lives of the Rutgers Women’s basketball team will go on…Al and Jesse will continue to try to make a buck posing as crusaders against evil tyranny…people of all colors and hues will continue to fell that they have been wronged by somebody of another color or hue…Duke Lacrosse players will move on to lucurative lives…NC DA will be disbarred, BET, UPN, FOX NEWS, will stay on the air…and through all this CORPORATE AMERICA will get richer and richer playing on our fears and insecurities and cashing in on our failure to recognize that money is the almighty mammon and rules all…
Holy Crap!
According to newsweek, the Imus firing was a planned hit by the digital brownshirts of Media Matters!
Ahh yes, this all making sense now….this is more of the MM bunch huddling over video feeds and hunting down anyone who doesn’t drink their brand of cool-aid, attempting to stifle anyone who doesn’t toe their line. Don’t even bother trying to pretend this had anything to do with right/left politics either…this is a straight out free speech hit job….
Beautiful….
