President Cheney, Averted
Tweet
UPDATED:
Now I know what this incident reminded me of:
Plug it in, fire it up, Mr. President.
Credit Ford Motor Co. CEO Alan Mulally with saving the leader of the free world from self-immolation.
Mulally told journalists at the New York auto show that he intervened to prevent President Bush from plugging an electrical cord into the hydrogen tank of Ford’s hydrogen-electric plug-in hybrid at the White House last week. Ford wanted to give the Commander-in-Chief an actual demonstration of the innovative vehicle, so the automaker arranged for an electrical outlet to be installed on the South Lawn and ran a charging cord to the hybrid. However, as Mulally followed Bush out to the car, he noticed someone had left the cord lying at the rear of the vehicle, near the fuel tank.
"I just thought, ‘Oh my goodness!’ So, I started walking faster, and the President walked faster and he got to the cord before I did. I violated all the protocols. I touched the President. I grabbed his arm and I moved him up to the front," Mulally said. "I wanted the president to make sure he plugged into the electricity, not into the hydrogen This is all off the record, right?"

Would have been interesting to see the CEO of Ford tackled to the ground by the secret service….
But I have to say, all jokes about Bush aside, if there is some sort of danger of blowing up your car because you can somehow put a power cord in the hydrogen tank, then, uh, isn’t there a problem with the car?
Well, yeah, the ensuing conflagration would contribute to neighborhood warming in general, and “Jerry – warming” in particular.
I don’t think electricity would play nice with a gas-powered car either, I’m guessin’.
I guess my point is that if a hybrid can be charged with electricity, and also has a hydrogen intake, then there is probably some well-designed safety interlock that prevents a charging cord from being placed in the hydrogen intake.
I don’t know what a hydrogen intake would look like, but given how small the molecules are, I would think it has to be more than just the spout that gasoline is poured down. I would suspect it’s like the propane tank filling. Two brass non-sparking connectors that are screwed together. And to a certain extent, if e- is a problem, then grounded!
So I just don’t know what was going on on with that car.
While global jerry warming is an issue I take seriously, I am certainly more concerned about local jerry warming.
Great point jerry, and I do KNOW that an electrical outlet won’t FIT into (nor would it do anything too) a hydrogen fitting!
Look for the next update….”Bush tries to plug atomic bomb into nucular reactor….disaster averted!”
Yet another ridiculous story courtesy of OW….
I noticed Oliver hasn’t been blogging on Global Warming lately.
I wonder why.
Bush tries to plug atomic bomb into nucular reactor…
That headline would not be as unbelievably ludicrous as the following:
“Another day dawns with George W. Bush as president of the United States.”
I wake up everyday surprised we don’t see the headline, “George W. Bush rushed to hospital after forgetting how to breathe.”
There are many people around him telling him what to do, jerry…
Isn’t that a silent and smiling Dick Cheney just sitting back and watching little Georgie play with the electrical plug??
Is Dick Cheney secretly plotting to take the Prez out?
Stay tuned…
give into the hate lefties….it just makes you look nuttier to Joe Sixpack and his wife…
“Joe Sixpack and his wife” have decided they are better off as Dems, Dr. Pee…
You just need to look at recent polls on party ID and preference and on the issues most important to Americans, and you see you and the GOP have a problem with working-class America.
You are correct Wellstone, that is exactly why watching democrats try to “lead” will put us in the white house again in 08.
Please keep letting Ollie explain how evil chimpy bushmchitler tried to destry the free world by plugging his toaster oven into three mile island or whatever ridiculous story you guys make up next..
“…watching democrats try to “lead” will put us in the white house again in 08.” Care of some doc.
What some fail to understand is that even if the Dems mess up, Republicans would not look like a viable option. Any potential Dem failures would pale in comparison to the f-ups delivered to us by the right.
We won’t forget which party brought us Iraq and which party supports keeping us mired there with no real plan to get us out.
Wellstone wins the thread with “Dr. Pee”. I laughed out loud at that one.
The reason you are watching the Democrats try to lead, Pedo, is there is an absence of leadership coming from the white house.
Here’s a picture for those suffering Bush Derangement Syndrome.
Bush Derangement Syndrome is characterized by overwhelming sycophancy to an incompetent, inarticulate leader who institutes policies inimical to his country’s interest and welfare. Those suffering BDS, as it is commonly called, are able to make a statement defending their leader on moment, and argue the exact opposite the next. Indeed, most of those afflicted with this bizarre disease are incapable of cognitive functions when involves their Dear Leader.
That concern never stopped any rightist from indulging in vile hate speech like your friend Imus.
Why, did you want to get
your butt kicked again?
Mike: Your “latest news” is a picture from a left wing blog of an event no one doubts took place; and an article from last October.
If you call that “kicking butt”, I’ve got news for you: It isn’t.
Now Oliver mocks the developmentally disabled, and compares them to the President…
What’s next, Oliver, you big liberal, you?
Yes, I blogged about global warming just 5 days ago, clearly I missed the evil memo from Al Gore to ixnay on the the obalgnay armingwnay.
Or perhaps I don’t give a lot of weight to idiots who think that a cold week in April disproves the increasing temperature of the earth. And I know Al Gore wouldn’t be the presidential version of Mr. Magoo.
The idiots who came up with BDS are the same fools foaming with rage over Bill Clinton who left office 6 years ago.
Talk about projecting, right Dr. Pee?
Now Oliver mocks the developmentally disabled, and compares them to the President…
What’s next, Oliver, you big liberal, you?
Yeah, that is an insult to the developmentally disabled to compare them to a conservative.
Come to find out it only happened in Mulally’s head.
So when Mulally told the story in New York, he picked up on the humor of Kimmel’s parody and embellished the story a bit. While Mulally did lead Bush over to the vehicle, the president was never in danger and Mulally didn’t mean to imply otherwise, Hoyt said. “He did not think it would be taken seriously,” Hoyt said.
As usual, Oliver’s retraction will come after the Rapture.
We are talking about the guy who choked on a pretzel and fell off a Segway, right? Is it any wonder tales of his clumsiness are so believable.
Not a word of retraction eh ollie?
You BDS was on full display here lefties, and you were caught with your pants around your ankles…
Nothing to see here, move along, wait for this post to disappear like the ones about the Duke “Rape” case
Pathetic
