I don’t think it’s enough.
STATEMENT FROM NBC NEWS
Beginning Monday, April 16, MSNBC will suspend simulcasting the syndicated “Imus in the Morning” radio program for two weeks. This comes after careful consideration in the days since his racist, abhorrent comments were made. Don Imus has expressed profound regret and embarrassment and has made a commitment to listen to all of those who have raised legitimate expressions of outrage. In addition, his dedication – in his words – to change the discourse on his program moving forward, has confirmed for us that this action is appropriate. Our future relationship with Imus is contingent on his ability to live up to his word.
The previously scheduled Imus radiothon in support of the Tomorrow’s Children’s Fund, the CJ Foundation for Sudden Infant Death Syndrome research and the Imus Ranch will air, as scheduled, this Thursday and Friday on MSNBC.
STONE HIM!
I think he handles that himself before the show.
So does this cost Imus any real $?
Like a sports fine, can he write off the loss?
Does he have to take a sensitivity class or atone for his sin. Demeaning black girls is just a 2 week fine?
How much for gay bashing? Is there a spread sheet that calculates the fine levels for bigoted speech from a rich white man?
2 weeks is just to make MSNBC & CBS look good.
Jesus says to turn the other cheek.
AFTER ALL OF THE GOOD IMUS HAS DON OVER 30 YEARS AND HE PICKS ON EVERYONE HE IS A CREDIT TO THE RADIO AND TV BUNINESS AND TO FIRE HIME OVER THIS WOULD BE AN EMOTIONAL RACE PROVOKED ACT AND ALL CALLING FOR HIS HEAD ARE ILL INFORMED MEAN OR UNINFORMED PEOPLE ,,,,,WHO ELECTED JESSE JACKSON TO ANYTHING WHAT DOES HE HAVE TO DO WITH THIS……… ANYWAY……….EVERYBODY JUST GET A GRIP AND SHUT UP AND LET DON IMUS CONTINUE HIS GOOD WORK AND WE WOULD ALL BE BETTER OFF.GLENN BRANDON,,,, BIRMINGHAM ALABAMA
Like a sports fine, can he write off the loss?
You can’t write off fines…
Meanwhile, I say, “Imus must die!”
If C. Vivian Stringer really wanted to humilate Imus, she should have come back with something like “This guy who hasn’t changed clothes since the Dust Bowl is gonna give my girls grief about how they look?”
It would have empowered her, taken the legs out from Imusm and turned her into a culture-war folk hero. Which would do wonders on the recruiting trail. As it is, the only thing she’s taught her players is to play the victim card at the first sign of trouble.
Not that Imus doesn’t deserve to get booted…
Maybe Jesse should boycott at Imus’ ranch and prevent the kids with cancer from getting on their horses. That will show them.
What kind of religion do Rev Al Sharpton and Rev Jesse Jackson belong to? What happened to forgiveness and giving people a second chance? What if people hadn’t given Jackson a second chance , his life has not been above reproach, and neither has Sharptons. These two are hardly shining examples of political correctness….p l e a s e..
Actually, the point about Jackson and “Hymietown” is a fair one.
At this point, I think it’s become piling on. Imus is a moron, but that’s all he is. There are more important battles to fight, and this one is just a distraction at this point.
Imus’ work consists of making a racist statement, apologizing, repeat.
The fight against racism in America has been the most important battle of my lifetime. Many have died in this fight and it’s not over. Racism must be countered whenever it raises above the filth and slime where it resides.

Are we in high school again?
Suspensions?
Really? is this how adults deal with shit?!
Somewhere in heaven or hell, Howard Cosell is saying, “What the F-ck?!”
Suspension. OOoooh. Way to take a stand.
“…has made a commitment to listen to all of those who have raised legitimate expressions of outrage.”
“Legitimate” outrage only (let’s not waste the man’s time).
This amounts to a non-apology – like the similarly loopholish expression, “…if I caused offense …”
No apology, no forgiveness. I agree, not nearly enough
Does CBS Radio have any standards? Do they ever decide what is or isn’t acceptable to go out over their airwaves? Is there nothing a host can say that’s simply unacceptable?
This, in a nutshell, is exactly what’s wrong with media today. Don Imus will keep his job because his network values his on-air “personality” more than it values integrity, honor, or service to the listening public.
CBS’ failure to set clear standards and apply them to all of its employees is a sign that entertainment has replaced news, replaced commentary, and replaced plain good sense.
Thank goodness we have Al Sharpton and the P.C. police to tell us what humour is acceptable and what isn’t.. he certainly isn’t a hypocrite or anything. Whatever happened to turning off the channel if you didn’t like something you heard? Quite frankly I’m more upset that Imus caved in to the lunatics and apologized for a _comedy_ bit. For christ sakes, I wish people would quit tossing out the race card every time they hear something that they don’t like.
Yeah, I mean only an idiot could read any sort of racial context into calling black women “nappy headed hos”. Those PC idiots!
Oliver, I’m sure tomorrow Hannity will be saying Don just meant SLEEPY-headed instead of nappy-headed and H.O.s., which stands for Hotties Obviously. It was all a big misunderstanding.
Imus is a disgusting sack of has-been fop shit, but making a big deal about this only makes him a martyr to strident right-wing reactionaries like we see on this board.
I say drop it. Firing him won’t make idiots like him less stupid, and nobody (except other idiots) is going to take anything he says seriously from now on until the day he chokes on his own blow-dry toupee.
Todd- you are just so wrong. Imus should be fired. Just like Cosell from Monday Night Football. Just like Bill Maher got dumped from ABC. Just like Limbaugh from ESPN. Just like Rosie O… oh wait… check that ABC is holding out on that one for ratings. Quaker is 100% right about CBS’s standards or lack thereof.
(Although I do find delicious irony in Al “T.B.” Sharpton and Jesse “Hymietown” Jackson being the standard bearers of speech standards on this one.)
This, in a nutshell, is exactly what’s wrong with media today. Don Imus will keep his job because his network values his on-air “personality” more than it values integrity, honor, or service to the listening public.
Actually, his network values the revenue dollars his show generates from advertising. It is the only reason why he still has his job.
Under the “no such thing as bad publicity” department:
On the way in to work this morning, I was listening to Imus. What’s odd about that is that I probably haven’t listened to him in ten years. I mentioned this to the two people I work with: both of THEM listened to him this morning, too.
He probably got higher ratings this morning than he’s had in years.
You know what? Maybe they should donate that two weeks salary that he isn’t getting paid to Rutgers.
In addition, one does have to appreciate the double standards being applied. What Imus said was clearly racist. Limbaugh was forced off the air for comments that weren’t racist at all (he was being critical of the media folks for attempting to make Donovan McNabb into a great quarterback, which he hasn’t been since his playing days at Syracuse).
Quick, hurry up and get him of the air before he can raise more money for charity. I’m sure the Revs. Al and Jesse will pick up the slack.
So, as long as you give to a charity, you should never be fired? Is that what I’m hearing? I guess I better start keeping better records of what I put in the collection plate.
It’s impossible not to be reminded of the would-be headline:
” ‘Politically Incorrect’ Sophomore Actually a Racist Asshole”
What Limbaugh said was racist. McNabb was such a not great QB he took his team to the Superbowl.
Jeebus, Jay C knows nothing about sports as well.
The facts WRT Limbaugh is he said the media was trying to hype McNabb because they wanted to see a black QB succeed.
This racist analysis fails on two counts–first, there’s no evidence the media hypes black QBs; can anyone say the media pushed folks like Anthony Wright or Quincy Carter or Akili Smith?
Second, McNabb isn’t overrated. He’s been in Philly where most of their WRs wouldn’t be third WRs on other teams. And the running game has always been rather spotty in Philly. Yet, he’s been a consistent top 5 QB in the NFL.
No, charitable giving alone should not prevent a firing, but when combined with an apology, yes, he does not deserve to be fired.
What Limbaugh said was racist. McNabb was such a not great QB he took his team to the Superbowl.
Oliver, take a step back. The Eagles didn’t get to the Super Bowl until after the 2004 season. Rush made his comments at the beginning of the 2003 season. 2004 was McNabb’s best year. Up until that year, McNabb was at best, an average quarterback, yet he was hailed as a great quarterback my much of the media.
Look at his numbers. His QB rating from 2000-2003 was 81.9 which isn’t exactly lighting it up. (Hell in 2003, Aaron Brooks and Jon Kitna had better QB ratings than McNabb. What does that tell you?)
Criticizing the media for propping up McNabb when the Eagles defense was what carried that team (just like with the Bears last year), is not racist.
Oh and getting to the Super Bowl doesn’t exactly extend greatness to the quarterback. Guys like Brad Johnson, Trent Dilfer, and Jeff Hostetler have won Super Bowl titles and nobody is declaring them to be great.
first, there’s no evidence the media hypes black QBs; can anyone say the media pushed folks like Anthony Wright or Quincy Carter or Akili Smith?
Leave it to Jadegold to break out the stupid driver and reach the green in two. The names you mention are marginal players with marginal talent. But names like Steve McNair, Aaron Brooks, and Kordell Stewart come to mind. Quincy Carter? Please.
Second, McNabb isn’t overrated. He’s been in Philly where most of their WRs wouldn’t be third WRs on other teams.
New England doesn’t exactly have WR’s that are household names and yet Tom Brady has 3 Super Bowl rings. That excuse doesn’t cut it. The best quarterbacks can work with any receivers. The QB’s elevate the play of their receivers, not the other way around.
Yet, he’s been a consistent top 5 QB in the NFL.
Consistent top 5 QB in what category? QB rating? Nope. Total yardage? Nope. Yards per game? Nope. Touchdown passes? Nope.
Quit while you’re as far behind as you are.
Is it true that the suspension is “with pay” as reported by MSNBC?
What is it that some people don’t understand about the fact that this man and his surly sidekick called these young women whores? And he did this on national radio and television for absolutely no reason. This man is a serial abuser with a serial abuser’s remorse. He will do it again.
Anyone that defends him should be ashamed of themselves.
But names like Steve McNair, Aaron Brooks, and Kordell Stewart come to mind
And you’re claiming the media over-hyped them? Get real. Every week, during the season, the media notes how inconsistent Brooks is and when Stewart played, they noted he wasn’t much of a passer.
New England doesn’t exactly have WR’s that are household names and yet Tom Brady has 3 Super Bowl rings. NE has a running game and pretty good defense. And the WRs Brady has had are pretty good.
Consistent top 5 QB in what category? QB rating? Nope. Total yardage? Nope. Yards per game? Nope. Touchdown passes? Nope.
In the aggregate. There aren’t too many NFL teams where McNabb wouldn’t be the starter over the existing QB.
Jay, you know nothing about sports.
Criticizing the media for propping up McNabb when the Eagles defense was what carried that team (just like with the Bears last year), is not racist.
Jay, you conveniently forget an important part of the story.
Remind me. What did Limbaugh say was the reason the media was “propping up” McNabb?
Stick a fork in ass and hang him from a tree – Kramer
And you’re claiming the media over-hyped them?
I’m claiming the media hyped them. Aaron Brooks is rightfully criticized now – his horrible play over the last 3-4 years couldn’t prevent it. After Kordell Stewart’s 1997 season the guy was hyped beyond belief.
This couldn’t be clearer than the nose on your face. How big of a story was in the 80’s and early 90’s about the dearth of black QB’s in the NFL? When Doug Williams went to the Super Bowl, the biggest story was not the Super Bowl itself, but that Williams was the first black QB in the Super Bowl. Anybody who claims that the media didn’t have some kind of interest in the success of African-American QB’s is either purposely being ignorant or is just ignorant.
In the aggregate.
Spare me. That’s a truly lame fallback.
Jay, you know nothing about sports.
I’ve forgotten more than you know.
Jay,
The reason Donovan was hyped was not b/c he was black but because at the time of Rush comments, McNabb was
1. A 4 time ProBowler (2000-2003)
2. The SECOND PICK overall in a quarterback heavy draft in 1999 that was endlessly compared to the famed 1983 draft (he is also the ONLY one of those QB’s left)
3. He made the playoffs in his FIRST Year as a full time starter in 2000….(media darling Peyton Manning cant claim that)
3a. He also had more playoff wins at that point than endlessly hyped Peyton Manning.
4. He played in a top 5 media market with rabid fans that are an advertisers dream; the coveted 18-34 year old male.
5. He was a communication major at Syracuse who knows how to expertly handle the media.
The “he was hyped b/c he was black” excuse is was non sensical then as it is now.
Here is a site with a list of all the black QB’s in the league today….
2006 NFL Black QB’s
Jay answer me this: why arent every one of these 30+ players being hyped by the media and NFL Network as we speak. ???
Why?? B/c its about talent…..Republicans love to talk about “market forces” well in the case of McNabb the market sorted itself out and settled on the QB it thought would sell lots of product
….regardless of race.
Every week, during the season, the media notes how inconsistent Brooks is and when Stewart played, they noted he wasn’t much of a passer.
Yeah … today. But 4 years ago, when Limbaugh made the comments, Brooks had a “cannon” arm and Stewart was “Slash”, sold as Michael Vick before Michael Vick.
Trying to get back on topic, I really wish Imus would call Brady Quinn a nappy-headed ho.
Imus should have been fired 10 years ago for sucking.
And can we all call press conferences everytime we get offended? When is it time to move on because some has-been radio host that half the Rutgers team probably never knew existed before his stupid remarks were made?
Lib4, just a few quick updates to your list.
1. In those first 3 Pro Bowl years you mentioned, McNabb wasn’t selected originally, he was an injury alternate, making him only the 4th or 5th best QB in the Conference, let alone the league.
3. In 2000, the Eagles allowed only 245 points, 2nd best in the NFC. The offense ranked 7th in conference.
3a. The Eagles playoff wins from 2000-2003 and the points the defense gave up in those wins: 3, 9, 19, 6. If the defense gave up 20+ points (as they did in their playoff losses), game over.

This is so absurd, if soley based on the “Nappy Head” comment. Imus does off color comedy. I’m Jewish and there is a line between what is racist and what is comedy. I have heard all kinds of “Jewish Jokes” so what? As long as the jokes do not entail THE HOLOCAUST, making light of something very bad in our history. So everytime I hear a joke about Jews how “Cheap” we are, should I cry “RACISIM”? PLEEEESE!!!
This is horse krap. If Imus at his cancer research place DENIES ENTRANCE FOR PEOPLE OF COLOR, then that is racist!!!
Again, IMUS is a shock jock, his job is to make light, make some off color jokes.
His forum often times is based on this.
And All Sharpton, Jesses Jackson. Should All be fired and kicked off the airwaves because of many of his anti Jewish remarks? Better him and more of a case because Al’s show is not in the context of “comedy” or “shock jocks”
Sharpton and Jackson both are first order hypocrites, who im my opinion do more damage to Black America than good.
to end. Imus’s “national geographic” remark about the Williams sisters is far more repulsive than merely saying “Nappy headed Ho’s”
He made the playoffs in his FIRST Year as a full time starter in 2000
Rex Grossman did the same thing this past year. Who cares? HE did not make the playoffs, the Eagles did and they did so in large part due to their defense, not their offense.
Between 2000 and the time Limbaugh made his comment, the Eagles never ranked higher than 10th in offense. That was in 2002. In 2001 they were 17th. In 2003, they were near the bottom. On the other end of that spectrum, the Eagles defense was one of the best in football. Limbaugh made the comment that it was the defense that had carried the Eagles up until that point and he was 100% right.
The amount of playoff wins he had compared to Peyton Manning is irrelevant. There’s only one playoff game that counts. Manning was one of the top QB’s in every statistical category (not just in the aggregate – That sounds funny it is so dumb) so the comparison is absurd.
The bottom line is, at the time Limbaugh made the statement, McNabb was merely an average quarterback, yet he was largely the guy credited in the media for the Eagles success to that point. He was overrated. It’s as simple as that. Limbaugh was beaten over the head because he dared to make race an issue in the NFL. But like I said earlier, many who gasped at Limbaugh said were the same ones who droned on endlessly about the lack of black quarterbacks in the NFL in the 80’s and early 90’s.
Contrast that to last year when the Bears made their run. There was nothing but story after story about Rex Grossman’s inconsistency and how if it weren’t for the defense, then they wouldn’t be close to the Super Bowl. They were right.
Look at the other story line leading up to this year’s Super Bowl. Are you going to tell me there weren’t people who wanted Smith or Dungy to win the Super Bowl in part because they are black?
Is it so far out of the realm of possibility that McNabb was overrated because he was black? Not at all. People (including the media) at the time chose to see McNabb as a better quarterback than he was simply because they wanted it that way.
Fact is, Jay doesn’t know what he’s talking about. As I said, there aren’t too many teams where McNabb wouldn’t be the starter.
Places where he wouldn’t be are Indy, NE, maybe Cincy. Maybe Seattle (and that’s a reach) Everywhere else he’d be handed the QB’s job.
Jade: you forgot…
New Orleans
SD
Dallas
NYG
Tennessee
Pittsburgh
Green Bay
not that McNabb isn’t necessarily better than any of those guys, but the QB’s in question are so entrenched, they ain’t movin even if McNabb were to join the team.
One again Jadegold doesn’t know what he is talking about. I can easily add 4-5 more (New Orleans, San Diego, St. Louis, Atlanta, New York) teams to your list where he would not automatically start. Going back to 2003, it doesn’t change much. McNabb wasn’t replacing anybody on the following teams:
Tennessee
Indy
Minnesota
Kansas City
Green Bay
Seattle
Tampa Bay
St. Louis
San Francisco
Jay, the arguement that “well the defense won it” can be applied to the current golden boy of the NFL TOM BRADY…the average margin of victory for Tom Brady in the playoffs is what 3.4 points …
So by your logic Tom Brady is an average quarterback who is only hyped by the media b/c he is poster boy white. come on puh leeze give McNabb his due….
And this list of places where McNabb couldnt start is a joke, you guys really need to quit smoking crack before lunchtime
New Orleans (Brees maybe, but 1 playoff win and he hurt AGAIN)
SD (Rivers – 0 playoff wins, LT)
Dallas (Romo – 0 playoff wins, started what 8 games in career)
NYG (Eli Manning – 0 playoff wins looks worse every year)
Tennessee (Young – 0 playoff wins)
Pittsburgh (Big Ben maybe)
Green Bay (come on Lord Favre is done!!!, Aaron Rodgers just got traded)
Indy (P Manning of course)
Minnesota (Tavaris Jackson…are you effing kidding me)
Kansas City (puhleeze, Trent Green or Damon Huard …hmmm which 30+ stiff would you pick?)
Seattle (Hasselbeck – maybe)
Tampa Bay (Bruce Gratkowski- again with that crack)
St. Louis (Bulger – push)
San Francisco (Alex Smith – when he gets his team above .500 let me know)
If thats the best you can do I will take McNabb every single time
Is there nothing a host can say that’s simply unacceptable?
If Michael Weiner-Savage and Melanie Morgan are still on the air, then apparently not.
I respectully disagree (can you even do that on the internet?!?):
Brees – 2nd in MVP voting. (Hint: McNabb NOT #1)
SD – Rivers had better 1st year than McNabb, and cheaper too!
Dal – Romo went to the Pro Bowl, did he not?
NYG – I like McNabb better than Eli, but the NYG brass don’t.
Tennessee – Mess with the Legend of Vince at your own peril. Why do you want to diss a black QB like that?
Pittsburgh – Again, I personally would rather have McNabb. But, if we’re now using playoff wins as criteria…
GB – If this were any other team … but it’s not. They won’t start anyone in front of Favre until Favre walks away.
Others:
Hou – The Texans are going to bench Shaub right after spending $60 mil?
Of course, this entire exercise is silly. Philly isn’t trading McNabb and noone on this list would have the cap room to take him even if he was available. What remains is that Donovan is a good but not elite QB, which is pretty much what Rush said.
And in 2 years, JaMarcus Russell is going to be blowing everybody away so none of this really matters.
Duros, I don’t see the leading lights of the media establishment lining up to appear on Savage’s show–with good reason. (And Melanie Morgan? I don’t even know who she is.)
On the other hand, large media organizations apparently push their employees to accept invitations to appear on Imus’ show. Why is that?
So by your logic Tom Brady is an average quarterback who is only hyped by the media b/c he is poster boy white.
Tom Brady is a three time Super Bowl winner and a TWO TIME Super Bowl MVP. Stop making such an absurd comparison.
And the list I put down includes teams from FOUR YEARS AGO.
In addition, it isn’t to say that those other quarterbacks are necessarily better than McNabb, but none of those teams are going to trade away people just to get McNabb when they already have capable and sometimes very good quarterbacks. As such, Jadegold’s assertion that McNabb is consistently one of ‘top 5′ QB’s in the league is off base and it is ESPECIALLY off base describing him that way in 2003.
Well, yes, Quaker, I agree. The luminous don’t go on Savage’s show because they know (at least I assume) better. My point was that it doesn’t seem to matter what gets said on the air anymore. At least on conservative talk radio.
Jay, maybe I haven’t heard the whole story about Mr. Limbaugh’s observation. Maybe you can fill in some of the missing pieces.
I’m aware that he made the assertion that Mr. McNabb received undeserved praise from sports media and that Mr. Limbaugh suggested that members of the press wanted a black quarterback to succeed.
Did Mr. Limbaugh offer any examples? Did he take the opportunity to share some of the over-hyped analysis of McNabb’s performance? I’m not aware that he did.
On his daily radio show, Mr. Limbaugh is quick to accuse Democrats of racism or sexism when they oppose a female or minority Republican. It seems especially dishonest for Mr. Limbaugh to suggest that race colors the public positions of others.
My point was that it doesn’t seem to matter what gets said on the air anymore.
And mine is that there seems to be an exception made for Mr. Imus. Media big shots recognize that Savage is a kook and stay away from him. Imus apparently can say anything and members of the media club will still accept his invitations.
The big difference between Savage’s show and Imus’, among other things, are the demographics reached. That’s why Imus could compete in markets with Stern (before Sirius) because while he doesn’t come close to Stern’s numbers, he has higher (read wealthier) demographics which advertisers love. To Imus’s credit, his demographics are the result of transfoming his show a while back to something that at time is more than the morning zoo.
What’s amusing is that here you have all the liberals up in arms and meanwhile just this morning Imus and Bill Maher were bashing Bush and the administration.
What’s amusing is that here you have all the liberals up in arms and meanwhile just this morning Imus and Bill Maher were bashing Bush and the administration.
Really? Did they call him names too?
Not Like the Chairman of the NAACP did, but close.
What’s amusing is that here you have all the liberals up in arms and meanwhile just this morning Imus and Bill Maher were bashing Bush and the administration.
Your point is moot dude. Its really not that hard for a right of center commentator and an avowed libertarian to bash GWB especially when the President is saddled with a 30+ percent approval rating, is tied to a failing war and mired in adminstration scandal after scandal. (Walter Reed, Attorney Purge etc)
Jay what can I say, agree to disagree …..I believe Rush’s original comments were not made to bash the media but were made with racial overtones to perpetuate the myth of white male victimhood that Rush champions on a daily basis.
Even though I am a diehard Eagles Fan, I am still lukewarm about McNabb (too many weak performances in big games); that said though I still think he is one of the Top 5 QB’s in the league
The point is there is no excuse for racism from anyone, even media bigshots, while to Republicans, if a Republican is a bigot, that’s fine as long as he’s a good Party man.
Here is Rush’s statement
“I don’t think he’s been that good from the get-go. I think what we’ve had here is a little social concern in the NFL. I think the media has been very desirous that a black quarterback do well. They’re interested in black coaches and black quarterbacks doing well. I think there’s a little hope invested in McNabb and he got a lot of credit for the performance of his team that he really didn’t deserve. The defense carried this team.”
when imus gets a huge offer from other networks you turn coat fair weather SOB will get what you dis-loyal bastards deserve and i will love it,,,,, i would never turn on msnbc if the world was to come to and end ..and i am leading a cause that will follow suit, sit back and watch ,,remember money talks and BS YOU KNOW THE REST,,,,,,sharpten and jackson started what they cant finish
To the supporters of Imus:
The sad thing about this Imus situation is the fact that if the girls on the team and Imus had met and moved on as they both wanted to do, I think the show would have changed because Imus was as upset about what he said as anyone. I never heard one call for Imus being fired from the the girls on the team. They forgave him….Maybe they are real Christians who are decent people and forgive instead of making this a racial/political event. No one condones with what Don Imus said that morning. A 2 week suspension was reasonable. However, I heard on the news last week about a certain board member of msnbc and two political /racial activists meeting after hours with msnbc management and pressuring them into firing Imus. If this is true, to me this is a crime. If not literally a crime, this was certainly a conspiracy to advance racial/political positions to the detriment of Imus and to the detriment of what is right. If anything like this story is true Imus should be reinstated and he should be apologized to……I am calling on the long time advertisers, friends, musicians, authors and politicians to stand up for the man that sold their books and records and helped get them elected. Stand up and put Imus back on the air. In closing, last week John Kerry showed me a part of himself that I did not know,,,,,loyalty,,,,,I never supported Kerry before but I would now…..A real man stands up for his friends when they need it,,,,,where are all of you– maybe a little scared of short of character? People will respect you if you do the right thing!!!! I am ashamed of what has happened here, but most ashamed that everyone who watched and called in every day has not shown the courage to speak out…. where are you? I have a list that I will put in my next writing of the fair weather friends I am talking about. If this turns out to be the raciest/political pressure I understood it to be from last weeks news, some people should lose their positions and jobs..this will come out if true I am sure. Thank you. Thank you.
Ex-NAACP head now on CBS board hopes company will fire Don Imus
The Associated Press
Article Last Updated: 04/11/2007 10:48:51 AM MDT
Posted: 10:37 AM- NEW YORK – Bruce Gordon, former head of the NAACP and a director of CBS Corp., said today the broadcasting company needs a “zero tolerance policy” on racism and hopes talk-show host Don Imus is fired for his demeaning remarks about the mostly black Rutgers women’s basketball team.
“He’s crossed the line, he’s violated our community,” Gordon said in a telephone interview with The Associated Press. “He needs to face the consequence of that violation.”
Gordon, a longtime telecommunications executive, stepped down in March after 19 months as head of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, one of the foremost U.S. civil rights organizations.
He said he had spoken with CBS chief executive Leslie Moonves and hoped the company, after reviewing the situation, would “make the smart decision” by firing Imus rather than letting him return to the air at the end of a two-week suspension beginning next Monday.
“We should have a zero tolerance policy when it comes to what I see as irresponsible, racist behavior,” Gordon said. “The Imus comments go beyond humor. Maybe he thought it was funny, but that’s not what occurred. There has to be a consequence for that behavior.”
Imus triggered the uproar on his April 4 show, when he referred to the Rutgers players as “nappy-headed hos.” His comments have been widely
U.S. Sen. John Kerry (D-Mass.) says Don Imus shouldn’t have been fired, adding he would be willing to appear on a future Imus show as long as it wasn’t “the same-old, same-old.”

i dont know why my post is on 3 times and i am sorry about the caps this blog and e mail is not what i do.however i do see the duke [non-rape]case as one of the worst acts of a d a i have ever seen.the boys should get more than money.i dont know what can be done to right thos wrong.this went on for too long we should have stood up and said thats enough.thank you glenn brandon
My last words on Imus: I am new to the world of blogging so please excuse my caps on some messages. I don’t type well and I just forget. Back to Imus– let’s cut to the facts. Imus did say things he should not have said, but Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson are the problem. They are the cause and effect as to why we have gone through the hell we have gone through. This is not about race. Sharpton and Jackson are the worst human examples in America and do not represent the mid stream Black Americans. I felt bad about what Imus said and none of us Imus folks agree with the words he said. He should have gone to the girls and said he was sorry– as he did!! They, with class, forgave him. This could have ended and changed shock radio by moving the bar and changing the standards of what’s ok. The parties involved had nothing to do with it. I am sorry this has gotten so far out of control with Imus and many other people having been hurt. When this is over the other side will hurt– sad but true! MSNBC, GM, Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson are guilty for much more. The price for this will be great. I HOPE MSNBC HAS TO SHUT DOWN, IMUS GETS MILLIONS, AND THE PEOPLE THAT CAUSED THIS HAVE THEIR POWER TAKEN AWAY AND MAYBE SOME GO TO JAIL! I have say– all of you that conspired to end a man’s life work will pay a high price. Most of America feels this way I belive. As said in World War II, you awoke a sleeping giant! glenn brandon do what’s right
why does this post 3 times ?My the feeling on this had changed! If this had been handled by don and the girls on the team this would be over now.You know, at the end of the day The basketball team and the coach and Don Imus look like the only level headed people in this matter. Both showed class and let everybody they were all good people. In my opinion the tide has turned on this Imus situation. The changes will now get underway. From here I expect some heads to roll at MSNBC,Many people will have to answer a lot of questions.but in the end a whole lot of money will be paid to Don Imus and staff. From what i am hearing and reading several people involved at msnbc have regrets over the fireing. GM and MSNBC are in a very bad place. They have public opinion and the courts to battle. It seems they are on the short side of both with the facts agianst them. It is my thought that a managment team at GM that would get so involved and use its money to get don imus fired then give in to the likes of sharpton and jackson with their [rent a croud] or[rent march ways]ways power should come under fire. But now Don Imus is going to be fine and the other sides are about to enter a world of lawyers, paying money, and trying to get over this.i do not think msnbc will survive this it has been too damaging and the on air depth is just not there! If i were an advertising i would pull the plug after they blamed gm and others for this mess.last one out the door at msnbc catch the lights,,,thanks glenn
What if a black radio program called the white players on the Alabama football team a bunch of slick haired red necks? Would Billy Graham come out and get involved and push for the radio station to fire the person that said it? I do not think so. Why do other races have things like the NAACP. If a white guy tried to start this for white people he would be, God knows. I think to end racism, we should have no division and no groups that exclude. America would be a stronger country if we were united. Thank you Glenn Brandon
