When he was recommending someone for oversight of American security, Kerik’s shady ties weren’t a question. But now Giualini is running for president and things have changed. It’s intriguing that Rudy Giualini demonstrates absolutely no scruples when it comes to the security of the rest of us, but when it comes to his personal aspiration to the presidency he doesn’t hesitate to throw Kerik under the bus.
Republican presidential hopeful Rudy Giuliani acknowledged again Friday that he made a mistake when he recommended Bernard Kerik to be the nation’s homeland security chief.
The acknowledgment followed a report in The New York Times that the former New York City mayor was warned about Kerik’s relationship with a company with suspected ties to organized crime even before Giuliani appointed Kerik as New York City police commissioner.
Oliver’s Headline if Giuliani stood by Kerik:
Why Doesn’t Giuliani Throw Kerik Under A Bus?
That’s right, Frank, because either way Giuliani looks bad.
If Rudy had listened to his advisors when they told him about Kerik’s mob ties, things might have turned out different.
As it is, it’s no roses for Rudy. No matter what he does it’s either cowpie or shithole.
You’re right to the extent that this matters. If Kerik has anything like real mob ties it may hurt Giuliani because he’s Italian.
But if the ties are tenuous, Rudy can stay in the race ’til the end.
Your comments are worthless…too nasty for your own good.
Duh.
“…New Jersey officials said yesterday that Bernard B. Kerik abused his position as New York City correction commissioner in the late 1990’s by accepting tens of thousands of dollars from a construction company that he was helping to pursue business with the city. They say the company has long had ties to organized crime…”

In NYC, the NY Post, a right-wing rag, and the Daily News, not liberal, exposed Kerik a long time ago, when Bush all but had him heading up Homeland Security, and he got lots of Bush bucks with a contract to train the Baghdad police.
Kerik is bad news, and you had to call Giuliani’s judgment, his arrogance, and his integrity question after not only picking Kerik, his ex-limo driver, to head up NYC’s Dept. of Corrections, but also standing by him when the GOP wanted him in DC.
We will see more and more of Giuliani’s lack of management skills and questionable ethics as mayor if he remains at the head of the pack in the GOP primary, and it ain’t gonna be from the Left.
I would LOVE to run against Rudy with Hillary, Obama, Edwards, or Richardson.
I WANT him to win the primary: It would create a situation in Red America where a “REAL” Conservative like Thompson or Gingrich would have no problem cannibalizing the hard GOP base.
I agree. Run, Rudy, run. I think he’s the ideal Republican candidate. Strong in every category, handsome as a god, no scandals waiting to pop out.
Frank?
First of all, wellstone, the Daily News is a liberal paper. It has been for at least 10 years.
Secondly, I don’t view a former Mayor as an ideal candidate for President, anymore than I view a freshman Senator as an ideal candidate for President.
My ideal candidate should have lots of foreign policy experience, White House experience, be black, female, single…
Surely there must be someone like this who could run for President…
My ideal candidate should have lots of foreign policy experience, White House experience, be black, female, single…
How exactly does being “black, female, single” help qualify one for the presidency?
Is there something about those qualities that gives one special abilities?
There does seem to be a person who fits your description, but unfortunately she is a moron who would prefer to buy shoes than pay attention to a disaster.
Her Russian sucks, too.
