That’s “Quaint”*

I actually agree with his conclusion here, but I know I’m not the only one who thinks it’s hilarious that Bush administration apologist and cheerleader Hugh Hewitt has all of a sudden rediscovered The Geneva Conventions.

* (While Alberto Gonzales served as White House counsel he called the Geneva Conventions "quaint" in a document that eventually helped justify the torture at Abu Ghraib)

    I think it’s hilarious that Oliver has conflated a right wing blogger with the Bush administration, and can’t even tell us where Hewitt agreed with Gonzalez.

    “Tail Gunner” Joe never had as big a paint brush.

    I’ll bet the current administration has never condemned school truancy, either.

    It’s amazing. The howling over the “poor treatment” of this British soldier. The fantasy land right-wingers live in must be a fantastic place.

    We TORTURED AND KILLED INNOCENT CIVILIANS THAT WE CAPTURED!! We did it as a matter of POLICY! We argued that this was a double-sided coin and that OUR people are endangered by that behavior and NOW we’re bitching about a British sailor in an Islamic dress? WTF?

    How bad, how absolutely HIDEOUS would it makes us look when/if these Brits are returned unharmed? When they report the were treated with the basic human decency and respect dictated in the Geneva Conventions. When WE were the ones attach electrodes to mens genitals and parading them around naked with panties on their heads and taking picturs of it?

    I swear, we’ve lost our very souls.

    I don’t agree with his conclusion.

    We put our prisoners in ridiculous orange jumpsuits. Why is issuing a prisoner an acceptable uniform of your ethnic choice violating the Geneva Convention? The outfit seems to be modest and plain.

    You know, as I think on this, it seems a little bit racist that some of you find modest cultural apparel to be ridiculous to the point of violating the Geneva conventions.
