The Unit was recognized with three Presidential Unit Citations during World War II. "They inspired Pres. Truman to desegregate the Armed Forces. They have a "Site of Honor" at the Park Service website. Googling "Tuskegee Airmen" +honors gets about 51,000 hits. Of course, they have been honored. Why shouldn't / wouldn't they be? Are you insinuating that these men, who had a movie made about them (over <i>ten years ago</i>!) were lost to history? Did you ever hear of Benjamin O. Davis, the first black Air Force General? He was a Tuskegee airman. At various milestones in his career, interest was once again renewed in the Tuskegee Airmen. "... finally the Tuskegee Airmen are getting their due"? Don't be ridiculous! The "<a href="http://www.fatherryan.org/blackmilitary/tripnick.htm" rel="nofollow">Triple Nickel</a>" and the <a href="http://www.homeofheroes.com/moh/nisei/index3_442nd.html" rel="nofollow">442nd RCT</a> could use that much recognition. I met a few of them - SO cool! They had to put up with a lot of bullshit, but you know what? They got to fly P-fifty-fucking-ones. Only the single coolest machine ever created. Doesn't make up for what they went through, but...for a little while, they were gods. I'm so glad they're being recognized. Red Tails!!!
