I was quite proud of Al Gore today for refusing to bend to the global warming deniers by giving their unscientific arguments any quarter.
”The planet has a fever,” Gore said. ”If your baby has a fever, you go to the doctor. If the doctor says you need to intervene here, you don’t say, ’Well, I read a science fiction novel that told me it’s not a problem.’ If the crib’s on fire, you don’t speculate that the baby is flame retardant. You take action.”
This is how we have to start dealing with this stuff folks, global warming, evolution, etc. Quit being like propaganda networks like Fox and simply throw out unscientific garbage.
He also didn’t “bend” to an oath that he wouldn’t use anymore energy than any of the rest of us lumpen prolariate……
Good Job Al! Don’t go giving up your G-5 personal jet or multi-thousand sqft mansion girl!
God, please let me live 10 years to see this is all hogwash…
HONORABLE…bullcrap. It should read HUCKSTER/PROFITEER.
Yes, Al Gore is in the lucrative global warming testifying and documentary making business.
I thought that it was quite interesting to see Gore get blasted by the Texas congressman, I think Gore should be a little more conscientious of his personal greenhouse gas emissions and try to reduce them before telling the whole world to reduce theirs. It is blatent hypocrisy. The only carbon footprint I leave is my hybrid car, I purchase wind energy…at least Gore should do that.
No scientist has ever proven that Al Gore actually spoke today, in fact some people have argued that the appearance of him speaking is actually caused by “Liberal Commie Hysteria Gay” and not by Al gore’s physical presence at all. Look I’m not saying Al Gore’s a myth, just that legitimate questions remain about his existence. Why are you homo-commie-libs so intent on stifling debate on the matter?
Notice how WRT Iraq, the WH adopts the Cheney 1% rule–if there’s even a 1% chance that we’ll be attacked, we’re justified to start a pre-emptive war. But WRT climate, it’s the 100% rule–unless you can prove to total certainty that we’re ruining the planet, we’re justified to burn as much oil as we can drill and steal?
If the thermometer you’re using to measure the baby’s fever consistently gives out higher-than-actual temperatures, then perhaps the baby doesn’t have a fever. You’ve just got a faulty thermometer.
I didn’t catch any of Gore’s testimony. Was he able to explain the global warming found on Mars? Did he call for any specific action we can take to prevent the impending global thermonuclear apocalypse on that planet as well?
Looks like it’s that time again, that arguement that makes the wingnuts flip out.
Let’s play devil’s advocate here for a minute. Let’s say that global warming isn’t real, are you really saying that makes it OK to pollute? What about other pollution caused problems like O-Zone depletion and poisoning the air and water? Even if global warming isn’t real, wouldn’t the threat of increased rates of skin cancer and asthma and other crap like that be enough to have higher emission standards?
Now, I predict that one of three things will happen:
1. The wingnuts will ignore the question.
2. They will refuse to answer the question for some idiotic reason.
3. They will give the answer that they think everyone wants to hear, missing the point entirely.
Frank, you don’t have to answer this, you already went with #3 last time I asked this.
How about #4: zython will break his clavicle trying to get his head out of his ass.
Now,Jonathan, if you want to continue this foolishness, despite Oliver’s request, then continue it we will.
Let’s pretend zython isn’t a moron (I know, I know, it’s a real stretch): Here’s the answer to your questions.
1. No
2. They are bad
3. Yes
Well, Jonathan, you sure showed your lefty friends how cool you are.
I’m 95% sure global warming is happening, 85% sure that a large part of that is human caused. My slight skepticism comes from my ignorance of climatology and my knowledge that experts, even in large numbers, are often wrong.
What I’m not sure is whether the steps we would need to take in order to stop it are worth it.
Activists can pretty much stop trying to convince the populace that global warming is happening. Those who don’t believe it now, will not believe it with more information. They will find any data they like to confirm their denial of warming. Now, its time to start convincing the populace that the astronomical expenses in pure cash and standard of living to reverse or neutralize the warming is worth it. Perhaps they are out there, but I haven’t seen them and a picture of a stranded Polar Bear on a mini ice berg just doesn’t do it for me. I really can’t miss them as a living species, because I’ve never seen one alive.
Good points freaks.
I mean, if the “guru” of human-produced global warming won’t give up his enormous mansion and private jet, how in the hell can anyone take his cataclysmic predictions seriously. He apparently doesn’t believe his own rhetoric
1. No
2. They are bad
3. Yes
And yet you continue to whine about “teh global warming conspiricy”. Like I said, missing the point entirely.
And I wasn’t aware “Jonathan” was a nickname for “Zython”, but to each his own, or something.
Monitoring news stories and general atmosphere on the web, it seems that somehow, incredibly, the global warming deniers are gaining ground and support in this “debate.” To which I reply… WHAT? How?! Son of a…
Listen, I sure hope you guys are right. I really do. But you’re almost certainly wrong, which could mean disastrous consequences for everyone. Alternatively, if you’re right and global warming is all a big hoax… you can all laugh in our stupid eco-freak bleeding hear liberal faces. Which, for you, is probably just as great in magnitude in the positive direction as “worldwide catastrophe” is in the negative.
So yeah, I see where you’re coming from.
But you’re almost certainly wrong, which could mean disastrous consequences for everyone.
If their past track record is any indication, this will most likely be the turn of events.
To morons like Pedro who think that the size of Al Gore’s mansion invalidates the scientific evidence for global warming, I say they have an admirable role-model for their argument:
John 12:
Then Mary took about a pint of pure nard, an expensive perfume; she poured it on Jesus’ feet and wiped his feet with her hair. And the house was filled with the fragrance of the perfume.
But one of his disciples, Judas Iscariot, who was later to betray him, objected, “Why wasn’t this perfume sold and the money given to the poor? It was worth a year’s wages.” He did not say this because he cared about the poor but because he was a thief; as keeper of the money bag, he used to help himself to what was put into it.
Al Gore could be the biggest hypocrite in the world
…and it wouldn’t make what he was saying about global warming wrong.
(sorry, premature postaculation).
Gore had his big fat butt handed to him by Imhofe.
Why won’t Al take the pledge? Is he better than the average American? Hhe’s not even close to being a scientist, and now he’s not even a moral leader. Turn that AC up! Let the peons conserve electricity, I’ll send one of my gophers out to buy more carbon offset. And if we run out of power, I’ll burn some of those offsets!
Why won’t AlGore take the pledge?
Dugger,Global Cooling Denier
Actually wilbur, I BELIEVE there is global warming. I don’t believe that it is caused by humans.
I believe we should do what we can to decrease pollution and energy use. I don’t believe we should immediately give up all our modern conveniences.
My point is, even the Goracle doesn’t believe his own argument and his own “facts”. If we were as desperate as he claims, how can he continue to use 100x the energy use of an average greedy american?
I am also an agnostic, so biblical passages have very little influence on argument….but are you trying to say that the Goracle is wasting energy just to prove a point to the rest of us?
Gore had his big fat butt handed to him by Imhofe.
LOL. This is really the best you could get as a “victory” for you and the Freeper/RedState crowd?
Inhofe asked Gore to pledge to “use the same energy as the average American home,” which is of course impossible because by default Gore’s home is much larger than the average American home. Gore often uses the facility for business and other events, a concept your kind refute by… whining a lot.
When Gore tried to explain the fallacies in Inhofe’s trick question, he threw a tantrum, causing Boxer to smack him down, much to the amusement (and applause) of the audience. Even John Podhoretz at NRO, not exactly the bastion of climate change awareness, was embarrassed by that lunatic’s performance.
Seriously, sport. At least get a credible, sane GOP Senator to be your idol for global warming denial. Quoting Inhofe on his insight is like quoting the crazy homeless dude outside the bus station.
Why are you guys obsessed with “gotchas” and claims of hypocrisy, anyway? They get in the way of all the relevant facts you actually provide to support your- oh… right.
Congratulations, Pedro, sincerely. That’s the closest thing to a semi-rational argument that you’ve posted on this site since… I don’t know, about November 6th of last year. There is hope for you Pedro! Just take it one step at a time!
I don’t believe that it is caused by humans.
You don’t believe human activity contributes at all to the effect?
I don’t believe we should immediately give up all our modern conveniences.
Straw man: who has said said that we should immediately give up all our modern conveniences? Not Gore. Not me. Not Oliver.
…are you trying to say that the Goracle is wasting energy just to prove a point to the rest of us?
No, I’m trying to say that most of those who criticise the size of Gore’s mansion don’t really care about the environment, they just have their own selfish economic and political reasons for doing so.
I’m an agnostic too, but that doesn’t stop me from thinking that Judas was an asshole (if the story’s true) and that Jesus really did care about the poor even if he didn’t sell the nard and scatter the coins around the leper colony.
I would add, Pedro, that if you really believe that we should do what we can to decrease pollution and energy use then there are better ways you can expend your efforts thantrying to discredit Gore.
Gore had his big fat butt handed to him by I(n)hofe.
You must have seen something else entirely.
I personally liked how Inhofe got spanked by Barbara Boxer.
I don’t believe we should immediately give up all our modern conveniences.
Please provide a link..just one… to a credible person who is suggesting this. Please. I can’t wait.
Who in their right mind would suggest that we turn back the clock and live like Luddites?
How much of the Arctic or Antarctic will have to melt before this bafflegab stops?
At this rate, the hymn’s lyrics will have to be changed to “From Greenland’s Rocky Mountains” because they won’t be icy much longer. Of course, when all that melted ice flows into the Atlantic, there’s a good chance it will disrupt the thermohyaline layer that keeps the Gulf Stream pumping – and the British Isles and northern France will have a climate reminiscent of Newfoundland or Labrador.
But we’ll still be able to drive our H3s and eat fast food, so it’s copacetic, right?
The Gore “baby fever” analogy that OW quoted above is a ridiculous one. Why do you care when your baby has a fever? Because a baby’s temperature is supposed to be more or less constant (i.e. within a narrow band of fluctuation). If their temperature spikes well above the norm it is a very good indicator that something is wrong.
The Earth, on the other hand, has a temperature that is constantly rising and falling in cycles lasting hundreds and even thousands of years. How do you know we’re now going outside the normal range? What is “normal”? And how does the fact the temperature is higher today than it was 30 years ago (while still being several degrees below the NON-man made high during the Medieval warm period) mean that drastic action is needed RIGHT NOW?
Like Pedro said, I believe we should all do what we can to eliminate pollution and reduce energy use. I’ve already noted in previous posts the steps that I personally take in an effort to do my part (i.e. low emission car, reduced electricity usage, vanpool, etc). I also think this country needs to start a “Manhattan Project” type program to develop viable alternative energy sources and end our dependence on oil and other fossil fuels. Not only would this benefit us economically as well as environmentally, it would also help to begin marginalizing the impact that the continual problems in the Middle East have on the rest of the world.
But since I decline to jump on the increasingly intolerant global warming hysteria bandwagon, that apparently makes me an evil “denier”.
I think I can live with that.
I also think this country needs to start a “Manhattan Project” type program to develop viable alternative energy sources and end our dependence on oil and other fossil fuels
Jesus! Does it totally escape you that this is just what Gore and others are calling for? Why can’t you stand up for that against the oil industry shills in your own party and stop wasting your time trying to “gotcha” Teh eevul Algore?
If you anti-science fruitcakes don’t want to belive in teh glowball waremening, fine, just get behind the changes that we all believe have to happen.
HOUSE # 1:
A 20-room mansion (not including 8 bathrooms) heated by natural gas. Add on a pool (and a pool house) and a separate guest house all heated by gas. In ONE
MONTH ALONE this mansion consumes more energy than the average American household in an ENTIRE YEAR. The average bill for electricity and natural gas runs over $2,400.00 per month. In natural gas alone (which last time we checked was a fossil fuel), this property consumes more than 20 times the national
average for an American home. This house is not in a northern or Midwestern “snow belt,” either. It’s in the South.
HOUSE # 2:
Designed by an architecture professor at a leading national university, this house incorporates every “green” feature current home construction can provide.
The house contains only 4,000 square feet (4 bedrooms) and is nestled on arid high prairie in the American southwest. A central closet in the house holds
geothermal heat pumps drawing ground water through pipes sunk 300 feet into the ground. The water (usually 67 degrees F.) heats the house in winter and cools
it in summer. The system uses no fossil
fuels such as oil or natural gas, and it consumes 25% of the electricity required for a conventional heating/cooling
system. Rainwater from the roof is collected and funneled into a 25,000 gallon underground cistern. Wastewater from showers, sinks and toilets goes into
underground purifying tanks and then into the cistern. The collected water then irrigates the land surrounding the house. Flowers and shrubs native to the area
blend the property into the surrounding rural landscape.
HOUSE # 1 (20 room energy guzzling mansion) is outside of Nashville, Tennessee. It is the abode of that renowned environmentalist (and filmmaker), darling of the liberal communist Hollywood actors, Al ?I invented the Internet? Gore.
HOUSE # 2 (model eco-friendly house) is on a ranch near Crawford, Texas. Also known as “the Texas White House,” it is the private residence of the President of the United States, George W. Bush.
Yes Al Gore lives in a big house and flies a lot (mostly in order to talk about climate change), but if you looked beneath the right wing propaganda, you would see that he offsets ALL of his carbon emissions.
Carbon Credits sharmbin credits. Those are a big bunch of bull crap. Tell me exactly what they mean or do. I bet you can’t; and I know that most of the carbon credit companies sure as hell aren’t non-profits. Nevertheless, and despite the fact that Al Gore is a usual corrupted politician hypocrit trying to acquire fame w/ his notoriety… HIS MESSAGE IS GOOD AND VALID AND JUST. Keep that in mind. It doesn’t matter if he’s a corrupt hypocrit like virtually everyone in society… just DON’T MARGINALIZE the Message because you don’t like the MAN! It’s disgusting how many people will throw the entire message aside because they’re republicans or just simply dislike Al-Gore. If you do this… are you sure you aren’t simply trying to not-feel-bad about your over consumption of energy?
I’m concerned about Mr. Gore’s weight. Since the lost presidential election, he’s gained over 90 pounds. Perhaps the global warming banner should be carried by someone who takes better care of himself; someone who spends more time giving speeches and such about the evils of global warming and less time sampling the McDonald’s of the world. I’m seriously concerned that Al Gore will one day explode.
