Weird Retirement

Jake Plummer is out of the NFL. He’s one of those guys who was probably screwed from the get-go by starting his career in Arizona, but then when he got his shot he was still pretty darn shaky.

Plummer’s retirement is really about abrogating his current contract, which would free him to start for another team this coming season, presumably Tampa Bay, maybe even Washington. If he doesn’t retire, he gets paid his option money, but won’t get to play in 2007, making it much tougher to land a big money contract anywhere in ’08.
Remember, “retirement” in sports merely means, “I’m leaving here to go there.”
