Hypocrite? Maybe I missed something. I didn’t read the part where Newt lied about his personal behavior under oath while testifying in a case where he was being sued for sexual harrassment and eventually had to settle out of court for nearly a million dollars, and was fined and had to give up his ability to practice law for a number of years for being caught in the lie because of DNA evidence to the contrary of his testimony.

I guess I just didn’t read it closely enough. You got something that I missed?

  2. Nimrod Gently says:

I thought we already knew that?

  3. You must have missed the part where Gingrich set himself as moral scold and arbiter of all things Godly when doing the exact same thing at the exact same time. Or, you’re spinnin’ like a top.

  4. Macswain says:

    Marty of God,

You missed the part where zealous “independent” prosecutors spent tens of millions of dollars and ultimately had to swallow and concede they couldnt prove a perjury charge.

Funny how you righties find him guilty anyway but will dispute an actual jury finding of guilt against Scooter.

Funny how you also conveniently leave out the fact that the Paula Jones case was dismissed on summary judgment by a rightwing judge no less and she was only paid off to avoid the nuisance of further expense and time on appeal with explicit language that there was no admission of fault.

It was never just about perjury — time and again morality was raised by the right about how Clinton sullied the White House. Time and again the right delved into titilating ruminations of the specific details of the sex acts involved.

Keep trying to rewrite history, wingnut. It has turned out that Newt, Rudy, McCain all have a sexual morality that is worse than Clinton, but more importantly, have worse records as effective leaders of government.

  5. mdhawk says:

Yes, Newt the pillar of family values. True, he didn’t perjury himself in court (and neither did Clinton – was never proven through any conviction that I know of), and, to the best my knowledge, wasn’t disbarred (by a State Bar Association made up entirely of his political enemies).

Here is what he did do:

Started having an affair while his first wife was diagnosed with cancer and told her he wanted a divorce while she was receiving treatment.

Then, “did the right thing” by marrying the woman he was having the affair with, only to cheat on her with a Hill staffer.

Being moral, Mr. Gingrich did the right thing AGAIN, and asked his second wife for a divorce – over the phone; on Mother’s Day.

Then he became a total prick during the divorce proceedings to keep his second wife, who he cheated on, from getting any of his future salary earnings.

And being the totally upstanding member of society that he is, admitted the truth, acknowledged his mistakes and asked for forgiveness (though making clear he is not a hypocrite), a mere 7 years after in a mea culpa to the Christian Conservative community so that he might have a shot (though be it a minimal one) at becoming President.

Wow, you Repubs have quite the role model on your hands. I am truly jealous.

  6. Dugger says:

Well if Clinton was only about his private sexual life, then OJ was only about gloves and shoes and ice cream cones. Get real. Clinton gave false and misleading testimoney in a sexual harassment deposition. Not being convicted of perjury does not subtract from his real, dismal track record:

“In a biting, 32-page opinion, U.S. District Judge Susan Webber Wright of Arkansas said Clinton gave “false, misleading and evasive answers that were designed to obstruct the judicial process” in Jones’s sexual harassment lawsuit. She specifically cited Clinton’s assertions that he was never alone with Lewinsky and that he did not have a sexual relationship with the former White House intern.

Wright, who personally presided over Clinton’s January 1998 deposition in the Jones case, acknowledged that no court had ever taken such action against a president but said it was important to act to “protect the integrity” of the judicial process. ”

Yeah, just his d*mn private life.

  7. Wellstone says:

Yeah, accusations and court cases bought and paid for by the Arkansas project, from a woman who then went on to spread for Penthouse after multiple booby surgeries, and later on ended up losing by TKO against Tonya Harding in a FOX prizefight.

    Yeah, that court case.

  8. z adura says:

Dugger, the Left does not condone Clinton’s private sexual life or his attempts to conceal those sexual improprieties. We liked him because he was an extremely effective leader.

The hard Right claims that is sins were so great that he should have been impeached for the lies or should have resigned for the shame that he brought to his family. Given this, why are you willing to carry water for McCain, Gingrich or Guliani, any of which had improprieties of similar scale and certainly haven’t been truthful with the public about those improprieties?

I know you have trouble with facts from our last discussion, but you should at least be honest with yourself about your motivations.

  9. Dugger says:

    z

I think Clinton was a good pres and I don’t dispute the hard right went overboard on Clinton (but I think moreso on Mena, Ark and Vince Foster), but you still ignore the real issue. The legal issue wasn’t his sex life. It was a sexual harassment case. Clinton gave false and msileading testimoney designed to obstruct justice per Judge Wright.

Is sexual harassment then not serious? Should the legal system not pursue a case if its against a Democrat you guys like? Should he not be asked related sex questions in a sexual harassment case?

I don’t care who Clinton is boffing now. Didn’t then. I do care if the legal system requires him to depose and he, the chief law enforcement officer in the land, does so dishonestly. You should too, and not give him a free pass. The fact that the right wing did not like Clinton’s sexual habits had nothing to do with his false and misleading answers.

  10. OJ Simpson killed two people. Bill Clinton screwed his intern. It is because of your blind Clinton hatred that cons were unable to grasp the disparity in severity between the two actions and why there was such a backlash.

    What a classy guy.

  12. SpiderJ says:

Actually, it sounds like Newt has always been on the mark for his own standards…he just falls short of the standards he sets for everybody else.

  13. SpiderJ says:

Dugger – Ken Starr wasn’t pursuing a sexual harassment case when the Lewinsky affair distracted him. He was pursuing Whitewater. Were the questions about his sex life relevant then?

  14. Dugger says:

    “Bill Clinton screwed his intern”

Yes and he also ate Big Macs and played the sax (badly). All of which had nothing to do with his lying and obstruction of justice (as noted by Judge Wright) when he was chief law enforcement officer of the land.

Why do you pretend it was all about sex.

Do I need to show you the Judge Wright quote again. Perhaps you can tell me where she references sex.

  15. midderpidge says:

Clinton lied and obstructed justice. What do you guys want? Now I would be willing to bet if Gingrich had been put under oath in some kind of corruption investigation and the questioning strayed to his sex life, he probably would have tried to cover it up too.

And I know if Bush were to beput under oath on any investigation he would lie, especially since he has a track record of doing so.

  16. Because, Dugger, it was all about sex.

  17. Duros62 says:

Clinton did not lie! You don’t know his intent! What are you, a fuckin’ mind reader or something? He honestly believed oral sex is not sex! Therefore, ipso facto, he was telling the truth!!!!111!!!20-9!!!
No documented lies re Clinton. Ever.

  18. Nimrod Gently says:

We don’t instinctively worship Democratic Presidents the way our and other right-wing trolls worship Republican ones. They don’t understand why not.

  19. S says:

Duros, if pedugger states someone lied, it is gospel. No one else is allowed, according to his criteria, to make the same claim.
