Dear Mitt Romney, Please Stop Making This So Easy

Really, Mitt? Really?

Mitt Romney, who has touted his support of gun owners since launching his presidential campaign, yesterday acknowledged he did not become a member of the National Rifle Association until last August, campaign officials said.

A former advocate of gun control, Romney during his 1994 run for the US Senate backed measures the gun-rights group opposed, such as a five-day waiting period on gun sales and a ban on certain assault weapons.

  1. A cynical opponent might use his flip-flopping as a way to subtly keep Romney’s religion into the campaign.

For example, negative ads pointing out Romney’s flip-flops closing with “What does Mitt Romney really believe in?”

Or a similar ad asking, “Is Mitt a REAL conservative?”

Keep asking, “Is he one of us?”

I’m sure his opponents can find cleverer language with the appropriate ‘dog whistle’ signals to question whether Romney is really a Christian without actually doing it so blatantly.

Not that I’d condone such tactics, but if his rightward opponents took such tactics, I would not be surprised.

To be fair, I think his position is gun owners should not be allowed to have abortions except when they do.

Jeez….Was he even a Republican before he started his run for President….
