Salon Bashes Obama?
Apparently Salon.com labeled Barack Obama as "uppity" on their home page and then excised it. But their readers noticed.

“you tin eared goons”
brilliant.
They just used the wrong word for “somewhat conceited”, there wasn’t any great malice. Someone forgot that “uppity” has racial connotations for you guys.
Don’t forget that Nimrod had no problem with a leftist repeatedly calling a black man the n-word in OW’s blog.
I thought the author was very articulate. Not.
Don’t forget that JWG’s an imbecile.
I may be an imbecile, but I don’t make excuses for racist statements.
No, we are not having this discussion again.
So, Salon, Cornel West, Steve Gilliard, Matt Stoller, David Sirota–anybody else jumped on the hater bandwagon lately?
I don’t get the hostility, even when it’s explained to me it still makes no sense at all.
There was never a discussion.
You just told me to “shut up” after I criticized you for helping Randy Brown throw around the DAFN acronym.
At least you can admit that “uppity” is the “wrong word.” Maybe some day you’ll feel the same about the n-word.
Tell it to Richard Pryor.

It’s a bit worse than that, NG. Using “uppity” in this context is just shy of implying a fondness for watermelon–and not by very much. In this sense, it doesn’t mean “somewhat conceited,” it means, “doesn’t know his place,” or “pretending to be as good as white.”
It’s either a major insult or a monumental blunder.
Is this similar to this post http://www.oliverwillis.com/2007/02/david_broder_li.html where Oliver called David Broder ‘filthy’? Hmmm….
I still think the latter.

Not even close.
No, because a) it was motivated by genuine anger, and one can only guess what the Salon writer was thinking, and b) it wasn’t racist.
Furthermore, if you can’t tell the difference between calling a dirty liar a dirty, filthy, stinking liar and calling a black person an “uppity niggra”, then you really shouldn’t be operating heavy machinery like a car without close adult supervision.

As Nimrod likes to say…
“Tell it to Richard Pryor”
Obviously, it’s OK [/sarcasm]
No, it isn’t. Look, I don’t care if Richard Pryor says it (though unlikely) or Pat fucking Sajack says it, it ain’t right!
Tell it to Nimrod. I agree with you.
JWG is obsessed. Ignore him.
Yes, I’m obsessed with not tolerating racist comments just because they come from someone on the Left.
Oh for an ignore function.
Perhaps you’re unaware but calling a Jewish person(Broder)’filthy’ is an insensitive adjective choice. The same standard applies to ‘uppity’ as referring to Obama.
I didn’t know Broder was jewish.
Broder is Jewish.
Well, Ok, I stand corrected. He ain’t dirty, but he’s still a liar.
Broder is a dirty filthy liar. I had no idea that he was Jewish and I don’t care.
Now you’re being uppity Oliver.
OW calls Broder a liar because Broder accused OW (indirectly) of not being sympathetic to the military. Later, OW calls the military liars for presenting information about Iranian weapons in Iraq.
But don’t call OW unsympathetic you dirty filthy liars!
Perhaps you’re too dumb to understand the difference between the political military leadership and the rest of the military.
