Neocon hack and former Dan Quayle do-boy Bill Kristol says that Barack Obama would be pro-slavery.
Once again, these people cannot help themselves.
Oliver, in all fairness, I don’t think that’s exactly what Bill Kristol meant.
But what he actually said/meant is bad enough. The analogy is insulting and offensive, even if it’s a surface comparison. And trying to compare slavery in 19th century America and terrorism in 21st century America is just stupid.
Douchebag, thy name is Kristol.
I’m sorry, but how is Kristol’s statement bigoted?
Of course, we have many on the left comparing those who don’t agree about global warming being compared to Holocaust deniers. Oliver Pretzel Logic concludes anybody (Most recently Ellen Goodman) are anti-semites.
He’s just wrong. Douglas wanted to maintain the status quo. Lincoln wanted to change it. Guilliani wants to maintain the status quo (endless occupation), Obama wants to change it.
Personally, I don’t think it’s very useful to make comparisons between current politicians and Lincoln, just like it’s not useful to make comparisons between current politicians and Hitler (obviously to the other extreme).
Obama is my favorite candidate. I hope that he wins the nomination, and I think that he has the potential to be a great president. I think that a great amount of good will come from his presidency, should it come to fruition. In a different vein, I think that Bush has been a colossal failure; he’s shown consistently poor judgment, has been a domestic and foriegn policy disaster, and is an asshole to boot.
That being said, I don’t think we should compare Obama to Lincoln quite yet, just like I don’t think we should compare Bush to Hitler. Maybe we can make the Obama comparisons when we have peace, universal health care, and have cured cancer in part due to stem cell research (just a hypothetical, Dugger & Co., don’t get your panties in a wad). Maybe we can compare Bush to Hitler when he invades Poland (I wouldn’t put it past him). But for right now, shouldn’t we avoid these analogies?
Finally, I’d like to repeat: Bill Kristol is a douchebag.
The American Right Wing: I Just Can’t Make This Shit Up.
Jay: would apologise for anything provided it was done by “his side”.
These fascist pigs are really taking the masks off. That’s a bad thing since we have to be subjected to their evil rantings. But a good thing in that we, and the less aware of us can begin to see them as they truly are.
The fascist right-wing are either on the edge of complete and utter victory or utter ruin. Their final phase will be actual physical violence against those that will expose and fight against them.
Question is, are we strong enough to stand up and continue to tell truth to power?
Bill Kristol is a stupid shit. I love the audio clip that Al Franken plays on his show wherin Kristol claimed early in the war that it’s “pop sociology” to think that there would be Sunni-Shia sectarian violence.
If Kristol were to have put that historical analogy in a senior high school in-class essay, he would probably have gotten a failing grade. Yet there it is on cable teevee.
Kristol is many things but douchebag isn’t one of them. Douchebags at least provide a useful purpose.
I can’t wait ’til they dig up and reanimate Peter Lorre to film “The William Kristol Story.” That dude’s creepy.

Jay: would apologise for anything provided it was done by “his side”.
Oh shut up twit. I merely asked how this was an example of bigotry? Even Mambo doesn’t agree with Oliver. Is he apologizing too?
Stop taking cues from Frameone and try to contribute with some content instead of half-assed snark.
Oh shut up twit.
No you shut up. Twit.
I thought Kristol had “you still listen to me you proletariat morons?” tattooed on his forehead.
well, he ought to.
The point itself is Bill Kristol and that bottle of soda water he’s about to spray in his pants. honk-honk.
It’s not about Obama… It;s about kristols lack of imagination.
and is IS bigoted – were Obama a Jew or a Sikh then Kristol would have pressed some other button.
That crap is self-evidently bigoted (intolerant for racist reasons), and kristol is being is usual clowny self.
You ever listen to the man… it’s like you can hear his conscience trying to tighten down his vocal cords…. and he always looks like he’s about to crap his own pants – with veins on forehead showing his efforts at retention.
His body itself disagrees with him. he makes me unfomfortable to watch… shifty eyes, unsteady tone, pedantic nonsense, and still no admission he might have been a weens bit wrong – ever.
Bill Kristol cansepnd his remaining days running the Bush library and changing history after the fact to fit his needs – assuming anyone will ever let it be built on their land.
Mambo does agree with Oliver, he just differed over nuance. Learn to read before casting stones.
Lincoln wanted to end slavery, Douglas wanted to let it continue, Obama would have been with Douglas therefore…
Jay: nothing to see here.
Mambo does agree with Oliver
No, he doesn’t. It’s obvious you can read, but your comprehension needs serious work.
And Midderpidge, perhaps you can answer the question (you people are great at avoiding these things) and explain how Kristol’s comments are bigoted. I don’t agree with what Kristol said. In fact, I agree with Mambo that the analogy is absurd, but again HOW is it bigoted?
How is it bigoted?
Come on, Jay.
A sitting US senator, who just happens to be black, would have been okay with slavery.
That’s what I get from Kristol’s statement.
How is that not bigoted?
There is dense, and then there is so dense you have an event horizon.
There is dense, and then there is so dense you have an event horizon.
Nothing like an erudite insult to get the day off to a good start.
Jay, aren’t you the guy that got all upset when opponents said Alito wasn’t a good DA because he blew the biggest case of his career. Yeah, because it dealt with the mafia, you thought it was racially motivated against Italians, and you don’t see it here?
Quaker: To be fair, I read in Sadly,No!
But it’s great and I’m gonna use it.
um….how is calling someone pro-slavery bigotry? Wouldn’t that make you a bigot, because that’s all you ever do on this blog, OW.
Dumb logic at best, OW.
OK, maybe calling an african-American pro-slavery isn’t exactly bigotry, per se, but it is incredibly stupid, insensitive and, did I mention stupid?
It also demostrates for me how clearly these nutbag neo-cons have no idea what they are talking about.
The only reason (I can think of ) why Kristol would make such a boneheaded comparison is because people he talks to and hangs out with have already compared Bush to Lincoln (oh so wrongly). If we already have a Lincoln comparison, we must have an Anti-Licoln, right?
Conservatism; the ideology of Nu-Uh!!
It would be akin to saying Joe Lieberman would be pro-Hitler because he supports the invasion and continuing occupation of Iraq.
Actually, yes, I am disagreeing with Oliver. I don’t think that Kristol’s comments indicate that he thinks Obama would have been pro-slavery. I think that Kristol instead chose an unfortunate analogy that illustrates his perception that Obama is not willing to fight for what is good and just, while Giuliani is (much like Bush).
This does not absolve Kristol from picking a really poor analogy that opens himself up to this sort of criticism. Not to mention that the analogy is just stupid, besides. Kristol’s comments certainly are reflective of idiocy, no doubt about that.
And the good and just thing that Kristol says Obama would not have been willing to fight for is Slavery.
And the good and just thing that Kristol says Obama would not have been willing to fight for is ending Slavery.
